About the Work
Verbum caro factum est is a new setting from the Gospel of John (1:14). Traditionally this text has been used as the Responsory for Matins on Christmas Day. In Spain we have a 16th century version, collected in the Cancionero de Uppsala (also known as Cancionero del Duque de Calabria).
My version is very candid and innocent, with the first chords of the theme in pop style, and very transparent harmonies. The whole work turns towards the last expository section (where a descant appears, in imitation of an angel singing from on high), and the final alleluias, which sound very joyful. In the second part of this section, the choir dialogues in antiphonal style (narrating the joy of heaven and earth) while the Soprano soloist continues with the descant, leading to a serene, simple and endearing finale.

About me
I am an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation based in Valencia, Spain. Choral music has been my passion since my childhood. I started my musical training in my hometown as a chorister at the ‘Escolanía de la Virgen’. The training of those years still influences my compositions (which are mostly sacred) and arrangements for choir and piano. In 2003, I founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS, which specializes in contemporary choral music. The ensemble has premiered most of my compositions under my direction.
