Véante mis ojos' is an adaptation of a poem by Jorge de Montemayor (1520-1561), from his collection entitled Las obras de George de Montemayor, published in Antwerp in 1554.
The music has an old-fashioned, melancholy air. It has a rondo form A-B-A‘-C-A’', with a serene introduction that serves both as a short interlude to connect the sections and as a coda. The refrain is reflective, and contrasts with the verses, which are more emphatic and imploring in character.
There are two versions, one for mixed choir (S, A, T, B) and one for female choir (S, Ms, A).
