Covid-19 was ravaging NY in back in March/April and the days were absolutely gloomy. At that time I composed a piano piece I titled "Sirens: Covid19 Elegy." I then offered the sheet music free to piano teachers on Facebook, and heard from pianists in many places. One musician was Francesca Hurst, who teaches piano at Catholic University. While in self-isolation, she has been making videos daily of herself playing short piano works. She calls this series "Daily Dose of Piano" and is now up over 90 videos. As the toll of fatalities approached 100,000, she contacted me to ask permission to perform my piece as part of this series. The link above is her performance, as well as her telling of my thoughts on conceiving the piece.
