Saturday, Autumn, Ravishing Light by William Reichard
As if the sun has hands, and passes its warm palms gently across my arms, my face.
Uses a single finger to trace the length of my legs. Peace lands in a mundane place,
my backyard on a September afternoon. The sky is so blue it cuts against
the house’s silhouette, the contrast dramatic, like a dream of a perfect day
on a perfect day, like an epiphany regarding the state of your life.
The light’s heat penetrates my skin. I feel it touch my bones,
buried there for months, when I’ll need the light I find
There must be something in our lives that’s worth every risk, the threat of loss,
the emptiness that lives at the light’s edges. When I hold my hand up to the sky
I can see the blood there coursing. I can feel the heat as it races through my veins.
