Scored for SATB choir, organ, and cello, this anthem is based on 2 texts-Philippians 4 and Matthew 22. Listen for a sense of passing years with the opening organ and cello. When the voices do enter, they too try and capture musically and without words this passing of time. The Philippians text is used to call attention to the text from John, i.e. – Let us think on these things that matter most—going out into the world in peace and with love. The charge to "Love the Lord your God" from Matthew is set to chant. “Go out into the world in peace” is scored so that the voices begin to move apart—we go back into the chaotic world with our different voices, but with gratitude, as we slowly at first begin to sing “Thanks be to God,” until with one voice we shout our thanks to God.
