A setting of e. e. cummings's poem "i am a little church(no great cathedral)" for mixed voices (div) unaccompanied; a beautiful text in which the poet personifies the “little church,” extolling its humility and service and the beauty of its simplicity. The music is primarily homophonic, with mildly extended tonality, inspired directly by the simple yet ethereal beauty of the poem itself.
"i am a little church" was premiered at the BAMA New Music Concert by the choir Sursum Corda (Lester Seigel, conductor) of Birmingham Alabama in Spring of 2016. It was later recorded by the Birmingham-Southern College Concert Choir, and featured on their tour of Spring 2017.
