From humble beginnings selling Pianola Rolls doorto-door in the 1920’s, to the opening of Sydney’s first musical retail shops in Wilson’s Capitol Music Store (1931) and Wilson’s Record Bar (1951), to the establishment of Musical Merchandisers in 1960 which continues to prosper today; the Wilson family is now into it’s 4th generation in the Australian music industry.

We know the challenges facing young musicians today and students who want to learn to play instruments like their idols. We also know the commitment music teachers make every single day to encourage and help foster the love of music in their pupils (sometimes a thankless job).

With so much more 'digital' distraction today, music education is now more important than ever. Statistics from numerous studies worldwide clearly show students who engage in learning an instrument are happier and excel academically compared to children who don't.

We believe it’s time to get back to basics and nurture young minds to encourage the fulfilling journey one begins when learning a musical instrument. Dedication, practice and improvement allows students to become more confident and enhances their ability to focus both inside and outside of the classroom as they grow and progress and their skill and ability.

Musical Merchandisers have been involved with initiatives and programs for music education in schools for many decades. Our company is a 10 year major sponsor of the NSW School Band Festival which is a not-for-profit event held over 2 months each year in Sydney which sees over 10,000 school students performing with more than 350 bands in a non-competitive environment.

We are mindful of the challenges schools and P&C’s face creating sustainable music programs, and aware of the constraints placed by tighter budgets on the arts in the current economy.
