UNIVERSITY CONCERT BAND Literature for the University Concert Band comes from contemporary, transcription, and standard band repertory. Performances include music from light classics to show tunes. The band performs on-campus each semester and also hosts concerts shared with local high schools. Membership is open to all Pacific students.

Eric Hammer conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and University Concert Band.

He also teaches courses in conducting, rehearsal techniques, and band development, as well as advises the Pacific Pep Band. Dr. Hammer has held leadership roles for College Band Directors National Association, Pacific Music Camp, the International Association of Jazz Educators, and the California Music Educators Association. He maintains an active conducting and clinician schedule throughout the nation.

Nico Peruzzi graduated from University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Music Education in 2018 and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Music Education from the same institution. He works as a graduate assistant, marching band instructor, and private trombone teacher as well as working with student led ensembles, and the University Concert Band.

SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE Symphonic Wind Ensemble is a group of wind and percussion players selected by audition. They perform literature from the classics of band repertoire, contemporary works, and chamber music in a series of concerts to serve the primary mission of individual musical growth, ensemble development, and the positive esprit de corps that is unique to a high-quality collegiate band. SWE also functions as ambassador for the University and Conservatory through off-campus tours, run-out concerts, and appearances at music conventions and conferences. In spring 2019 the band will perform at Carnegie Hall as headliners for the New York Wind Band Festival.

As a major Conservatory ensemble, SWE is offered for GE credit in Area IIC for non-music majors. SWE serves as a laboratory or “bridge” for applying content from academic classes and studio lessons to live performances. As such, the band provides a unique and powerful opportunity to develop both deep, comprehensive music learning as well as many “extra musical” values which will serve band members in future careers.
