At the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, chamber music is a strong and vital component of the performance studies program giving students the opportunity to perform in a diverse group of small ensembles. Several Pacific student ensembles have won prizes in major chamber music competitions.

Each semester, chamber music students are assigned to an ensemble according to ability and need. Ensembles receive weekly coaching sessions with an assigned Conservatory faculty member. Additionally, students attend and perform in weekly seminars and semester recitals. These experiences allow students to gain familiarity with the repertoire and prepare them to carry out successful musical performances.

They also develop techniques for problem solving in musical interpretation and ensemble playing. Through this process, students learn to interact professionally and develop leadership abilities that allow them to give and take constructive criticism.
