Team wins fourth state title in five years, first-ever National Championship
State championships have become the norm for Crandall High School’s cheer team as the group claimed its third-consecutive title in January. The reigning champs again took home top UIL honors in Class 5A Division 2 at the Fort Worth state tournament, which also marked the fourth time in five years CHS won state (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022). They finished third in 2019.

The group expanded its trophy case just one month later in February, earning the school’s first-ever national title at the 2022 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla. Crandall posted the highest scoring routine on Day 1 of the nationwide competition with a 97.5, followed by a final-day score of 97.4 to claim the prestigious white satin jackets in the Super Varsity Division II.
“I am so proud of our CHS Cheer team,” said Nicole Mitchell, CHS head cheer coach. “They worked incredibly hard and their hard work has paid off.”
CHS finished ahead of Vanderbilt Catholic High School of Louisiana (97.3), Garnet Valley High School of Pennsylvania (97.2), Liberty Christian High School of Texas (97), and Hewitt-Trussville High School of Alabama (96.8).
For more than 40 years, the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship has been the culmination of the season for cheerleaders across the nation. It is also the most prestigious high school national championship in the country.
“How awesome is it that our Pirate cheerleaders are national champions?” said Dr. Wendy Eldredge, Crandall ISD superintendent. “The team has done an amazing job continuing its dominance as we have grown from 4A to 5A. I could not be more proud of their accomplishments.”
