11 August Alt Femme - Outdoor BBQ & Bands - Shh...Diam! & Ajah UK @ The Old Abbey Taphouse

Shh...Diam! are the first openly queer band in Kuala Lumpur, where being gay is illegal. They are actively involved in promoting LGBT rights in Malaysia, and embark on their second European tour. Supported by Manchester’s Ajah UK and London’s POISONOUS CXNT. Show your support! tbc, 8.30pm - 3am

NoIdeaMan’s 90’s chaos, anger and beauty, murmur favourites Legs on Wheels play some zappaesque sublimity with Leeds’ Household Dogs and gloomy grunge The Reckid. £6, 8 -11pm

19 August The Nude Party @ The Castle Hotel

Touring with bands nowadays such as Ty Segall, the Growlers and even Arctic Monkeys, American psych surf band The Nude Party is rapidly making a name for itself, and nope, they don’t get naked on stage (anymore). Support from Manchester favourites Fruit Tones. £7, 7.30pm - tbc

20 August Kevin Morby + Shannon Lay @ Gorilla

With his dreamy, folk-infused songs, singer-songwriter Kevin Morby has spent a good chunk of the year touring his 4th studio album City Lights. Catch him just after his Green Man show with support from LA singer-songwriter Shannon Lay. £13, 7.30pm - 10.30pm

30 August Shannon and the Clams @ The Deaf Institute

Garage rock’n’roll, surf guitars, doowop rhythms and 60s girl groupinspired melodies:

that pretty much sums up the vintage-y sound of Shannon and the Clams. Now on their 5th album, they sound as tight and timeless as ever. £10, 7.30 - 10.30pm

RebeccaNeverBecky is a MCR based creative conceptual event organisation inspired by cultural, musical, artistic and visual influences of yesteryear. The launch event will be paying homage to the 90s (feel old yet?) £5, 8.30pm - 3.30am

3 August GOTHIKA @Great Northern Warehouse

For those who prefer candlelight over sunlight, join Cheddar Gorgeous and Liquorice Black for their macabre gothic drag ball inspired by Manchester’s gothic past, present and future. Expect this night to be big! £10, 10pm - 2am

4 August Wet Play Summer Drench! w/ Sarah Bates @ The White Hotel

Soup Kitchen turns eight with an 8 hour party featuring some of our favourite local artists and residents including the amazing Afrodeutsche and Cervo who blew us away at BlueDot Festival! 10 August Objekt b2b Call Super @ Partisan Collective

The first of many to come Partisan Members Parties. MCR’s local co-operatively run social justice advocate & creative venue has prepared a special treat for their supporters. Dishing up two of the best DJs roaming about the earth this event promises to be one to be remembered. 20 August BlackKkKlansman Satellite Q&A @ HOME

One of the most talked about films of the year, Spike Lee’s satirical comedy tells the story of a black man infiltrating the Ku Klux Klan in the 70s. This special preview screening at HOME is followed by a live satellite Q&A with legendary director Spike Lee. £5/£9, 6.15pm

Forget about Naked Lunch! Laurie Week’s literary debut Zipper Mouth catapults you forward to the past telling the tales of a lesbian woman’s struggle through drug-dazzled, unrequited love in 90s New York. In their first ever session Queer Book Club welcomes LGBT+ peeps & others to chat about Zipper Mouth and dive deep into the subject matter presented in Week’s book.
