Occupy Sisterhood present this special fundraiser for a good cause. Get your groove on with bands like Aldous RH and Inland Taipan, shake those hips to Do you remember the first time? and experience the infamous, revived-from-the-dead RIP Dave of Mutilation. Mad Pride is here to celebrate all things creative by mental health survivors and showcase the works and networks built by compassion and empathy. During the day, listen to spoken word and browse literature, zines and stalls of local artists and activists. In the evening indulge in some of Manchester’s finest DIY bands and musical artists. SUN 29 09 End Austerity Now! Protest the Tory Party Conference @ Oxford Road It’s hard to not notice that times are hard. The effects of austerity and the chaos of the Tory Party’s handling of Brexit make fighting back more important now than ever. Join this march, either as an individual or as part of one of the many groups such as Manchester’s Momentum and Acorn, the CND, and Stand Up to Racism. Established by artists in 1984, 2019 marks the thirty-fifth year of Castlefield Gallery. The organisation supports artists with both their production and careers, described as a ‘home for artists’. The exhibition includes works from 15 artists who have all shown at the Gallery over the past three and a half decades including Sir Anthony Caro and Henry Moore! FREE, 6 - 8pm

THU 05 09 ART SIMPSON II @ Rare Mags

DR.ME have created a zine featuring everyone’s favourite yellow family... The Simpsons! Armed with a huge stack of Bongo Comics and a whole host of other bizarre found imagery, DR.ME have created a variety of visually striking works with an undercurrent of Simpsons humour. Alongside the zine a selection of the original artwork will be on display and for sale via Rare Mags for the duration of the exhibition. PS there’s also a pop-up bar! FREE, 6 - 8pm

SAT & SUN 07 & 08 09 Islington Mill Art Academy Presents: Six Feet Deep @ Victoria Baths

Six artists from various disciplines have recently been in residence at the Baths, reflecting on the themes of water, the architecture and history of the building. You can now see the artists’ work and take part in dropin audio and film-making workshops or drawing and collage sessions to channel your own artistic vision. No previous experience needed! An intimate spoken word and music night hosted by the crème de la crème of avant-garde provocateurs, Lydia Lunch. She’ll be performing together with experimental Manchester artist Louise Woodcock, known for her trashy alter ego Trish, and jazzhorror ensemble Slow Knife.

A new poetry night for Manchester. With an exciting model! “Bring a poem, read another.” Everyone’s invited to throw their poem into a big poetry hat and pick a randomer’s submission. In the second round poets are invited to read some of their own work. All proceeds go towards Self Help Manchester a peer-to-peer support network for growth in our community. £3, 8 - 11pm

Sunday 15 th Sept 2019 @ Track Brewing Co. 64 Chapeltown St, M1 2QW Join ‘Thing’s Palace’, the Malaysian food pop-up at Track Brewbrewing Co.’s taproom. Go and enjoy a beer and some delicious, sustainable, and locally sourced Malaysian food, with some foraged ingredients. Devised and cooked by Lorcan Kan, a talented chef who has worked all over the globe and is currently at MURMUR’s favourite Where the Light Gets In.
