NORTHERN INDIE MAGS We had our ears on the ground at the June edition of Pecha Kucha MCR. A bunch of fab new publications were presented over the course of the event. Our 3 picks: NRTH LASS, a print mag that celebrates the talent of women in the north, and bemoans anyone that tries to call Halifax the ‘new Shoreditch’. @nrthlass

D O 1 - 31 July Greater MCR Fringe Next to its bigger Scottish sibling, the MCR Fringe certainly doesn’t come short! Throughout the month of July there will be about 120 events (comedy, mime, drama, spoken word and what not) spread across 30 venues in Greater Manchester. Now in its 7th year the line-up is bigger than ever - from circus to Brexit discussions and James Bond reimaginations, there is a whole lot to see. These 4 plays have sparked our interest: Questions of England, OUT, Just like a Woman, and Things We Tell The Hours After Midnight

6 July 69 Reasons to Hate the Word MOIST (Part 2) @ The Peer Hat Potentially the juiciest event in Manchester with the catchiest name! MOIST is back for a second night of celebrating queer art & film, burlesque, spoken word and lesbian love. Proceeds go to the Albert Kennedy Trust, the UK’s LGBT youth homelessness charity. The Northern Carnival Against the Nazis - a rally and concert held on 15th July 1978 in Moss Side - was a defining moment in establishing anti-racism. Manchester Digital Music Archive and the Ahmed Iqbal Race Relations Resource Centre have brought together the original organisers of the Carnival for a panel discussion and all-day event.
