The key to proper installation lies with using the proper tools and removal of the pattern on the surface of the belt, whether it is Diamond Top, Rough Top or Chevron. In all cases use extreme caution not to remove too much cover. Any exposure or touching of the fabric will result in shortened belt life. Be certain the ends are cut square.
Clipper lace installation instructions for high tensile rectangular lace ®
Over the years the most prominent issue that faces those of us in the baler belt industry relates to proper installation of the lace. We fully realize the equipment we use on the production lines is not practical for your operations and you must use the smaller installation tools. In order to help give your customers a better lace we would like to offer the following guideline. This applies to Clipper® lace and is extremely important when using the HIGH TENSILE RECTANGULAR LACE.
Measure the gauge of your belt. • Use a good micrometer or caliper • Remove any impression layer such as rough top, chevron or diamond top before measuring the belt gauge Select high tensile rectangular hook size. • For belts measuring .150 to .170 inches use Clipper 4 1/2-3 • For belts measuring .170 to .190 inches use Clipper 4 1/2-4 • For belts measuring .190 to .210 inches use Clipper 4 1/2-4 1/2

Install the lace slowly, using the installation method available to you. • Vise lacers in the jaws of a vise are not recommended for high tensile lace Measure the gauge of the finished belt • Measure at the third or fourth hook from each edge • The measurement should be .060 to .070 inches more than the original belt measurement • The hook points of the lace should be visible after penetrating the belt
