Elemental: The 64th Exhibition of Central New York Artists On View February 27 through May 2

lemental showcases eight Central New York artists whose work is of or about earth, fire, water, and air—forces of nature that shape matter and spirit. Within these guiding parameters the exhibition presents diversity of form, media, and meaning. Included are works on paper, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, installations, and video. The artists may use natural phenomena allegorically; they may offer cautionary warnings about ecological devastation; or examine humankind’s interface with nature, in concept or in practice.

E

Elemental honors two PrattMWP artist-faculty, Lisa Gregg Wightman and Bryan McGrath, as they near retirement. Lisa's collages incorporate found materials such as stone and invite meditation towards a transcendent experience. Bryan is a ceramist whose material is earth itself, touched by water and forged by fire. Elemental presents their work within the context of Central New York peers, with whom they have contributed to the artistic community of this region. The other participating artists are Richard Barlow, Oneonta; Yvonne Buchanan, Syracuse; Chris Irick, Utica; Rob Licht, Brooktondale; Dorene Quinn, Syracuse; and Leigh Yardley, Hubbardsville.

Lisa Gregg Wightman, Liquid, 2015, mixed media collage. 15 x 15 in.

Consider a Gift that Pays You Back f all the gifts that pay you back, the Charitable Gift Annuity is the simplest, most affordable and most popular. A Charitable Gift Annuity is often referred to as a split gift. Part of the gift is to be used by the Institute immediately, and part of the gift is set aside in a reserve account to be invested and used to support the payments to the donor/annuitants.

O

How It Works:

A donor transfers cash or securities to Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute through our account with KeyBank. Our minimum gift requirement is $10,000 and the donor must be at least 60 years old. MWPAI will then issue a contract to pay the donor, the donor and a spouse, or any two beneficiaries named in the contract, fixed quarterly payments for life. These payments become one of MWPAI’s general obligations, fully backed by all of our assets, and will not fluctuate. The remaining balance passes to MWPAI when the contract ends.

Benefits:

• Dependable, fixed income for life, regardless of fluctuations in the market;

• In many cases, you’ll receive a more favorble interest rate than you currently receive on most investments;

• Receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your gift; • A portion of your annuity payment will be tax-free.

Thank You

MWPAI would like to thank Leiter and Ricky Doolittle for their individual Charitable Gift Annuity contributions. According to Mr. Doolittle, he chose to participate in the program based on tax benefits and “some of the best interest rates” he’s been able to find. Mrs. Doolittle also stated that she “enjoys that the gift is mutually beneficial for both the donors and the Institute.” To start a Charitable Gift Annuity or for more information, please contact Bob Mortis at 797-0000, ext. 2129 or bmortis@mwpai.org. MWPAI can provide a projection of what your Charitable Gift Annuity payments would be based on your age and the amount of the gift with no obligation for you to participate.
