Siempre estaba en la arena así que comencé a tomar fotos allí; era el lugar natural. Había un fotógrafo en show jumping que solía vendernos fotos, quien era muy generoso y me enseñó lo básico. Tomé muchas fotos de caballos durante esa época, pero luego cambié a fotografías escolares”. Un hombre con muchas pasiones Cuando se le pregunta qué es lo que más le gusta sobre el mundo ecuestre, el jinete y fotógrafo afirma: “Me gusta estar con los caballos, escucharlos, verlos, hacerme su amigo, me encanta. Sólo sentir el olor de los caballos, entrar a un lugar y decirles hola es tranquilizador, como medicinal, es genial para el alma. Me encanta aún más la parte del deporte. Eso me apasiona. Me gusta la competencia. Me gusta ver el progreso de un caballo, el estar a cierto nivel y mejorar y aprender. Me gusta el vínculo que existe entre caballo y jinete, el avance en la educación del caballo y siempre la acción de la competencia. Es emocionante”. Pero, al haber nacido en Colombia, Juan Pablo le guarda mucho amor y respeto a su país de origen. Juan Pablo además es un apasionado por el desarrollo social en su tierra natal, así que él y su esposa invitaron a un compañero empresario de Atlanta, GA a desarrollar una ONG para ayudar a los niños y adolescentes en Colombia. “Creamos una organización llamada ‘Colombianitos’ buscando ayudar a los niños de lugares muy, muy pobres, con pocos recursos. El proyecto comenzó en los barrios pobres de las afueras de Bogotá con una actividad de fútbol para sacar a los niños de la calle y apartarlos de las drogas, pandillas y problemas. Utilizamos el fútbol como manera de atraer a los niños, pero sólo los dejamos quedarse en el programa si están asistiendo a clases y tienen buenas calificaciones. A través de la magia del fútbol, le enseñamos a los niños valores, trabajo en equipo, habilidades sociales y los mantenemos motivados y llenos de esperanza. Comenzamos con algo pequeño, con nuestros propios fondos, pero más tarde trajimos a algunos de nuestros clientes del negocio de tecnología como Coca-Cola, Kimberly Clark, Turner.
