Stroll into spring with Graco’s New Myavo Stroller

Children might be small but the list of things they need, is huge! When raising a family, there’s so much kit to think about – car seats, pushchairs, travel cots and high chairs to name a few.

As many families are tightening their purse strings, some brands are doing all they can to support families with young children. This spring, Graco launches a gamechanging stroller – Myavo™.

Graco says: “Achieve the look for less. Myavo brings style and substance without the price tag. There’s no better time for Graco to be helping parents and carers to get the style they want, at a price that protects their pockets.”

Myavo is a compact stroller with the look and feel of other premium brand strollers but comes at the staggering price of just £130. It’s perfect for parents and carers who don’t want to blow the budget or compromise on style.

Myavo comes in two on trend colours – a soft Steeple Gray and gorgeous Mint, which is available exclusively in Argos. The canopy of the stroller is knitted and the seat fabric features a cosy quilted design which gives it a luxurious look and feel.

With a one-hand, one-second fold it is ideal for use on the go and weighing only 5.8kg, it is one of the lightest compact strollers on the market.

Myavo has a multi-position recline for nap times, and an adjustable calf support so your growing child can ride comfortably wherever your travels take you.

Our Programme

Our programme aims to develop children's 'Skills for Life'. It helps them grow into confident adults, that understand and enjoy the importance of leading healthy active lifestyles.

At your first class, you will have experienced a fraction of the potential that Tumble Tots has to offer your child in the future.

Today’s equipment is only a small part of the apparatus and the layout is changed every two weeks (six weeks for 6 MonthsWalking).

This gives us the opportunity to concentrate on different skills and to intensify the challenges as the children develop within the programme.

6
Age Groups:  6 Months - Walking  Walking - 2 Years  2 - 3 Years  3 Years - School Age  Gymbobs (School Age - 7 Years) The basic philosophy is to ‘build selfconfidence’ through the development of the child’s physical learning. This is achieved by focusing on four important areas:  General motor skills  Social awareness  Self assurance  Self discipline They gain this through:  A structured development programme  Ongoing challenges  A fun and happy atmosphere  Well trained and enthusiastic staff  A safe environment

Top Tips in the Classes

 When your child receives their membership pack, encourage them to wear their t-shirt in classes to feel part of the club!

 Before you leave and in the case of severe weather conditions, please check your text messages, emails, our website or Facebook page for closures.

 Please dress children in suitable clothing to allow for better movement and avoid jewellery, dummies or any clothing that can catch on the equipment or cause injury.

 Barefoot is best (and safest) for children as this helps with their development. Grownups can wear shoes if they aren’t high heels or heavy boots as these can hurt small fingers or toes.

 Please take your child to the toilet before classes begin to save interruption (this is especially important for the over 3’s classes).

 If you need to bring a sibling along to class, please be aware that they are unable to participate or play on the equipment as they will not be covered by insurance. We recommend bringing something to occupy them such as a book or colouring.

 Make sure you arrive in plenty of time and register your child at the desk.

 Parents are fully responsible for their children in the under 3’s classes. We ask that you work directly with your child, encouraging and assisting where necessary. Support your child by holding the back of their T-Shirt so their hands are free for climbing and to aid balance.

 In the over 3’s classes, grown-ups are not actively involved but must always remain on the premises.

 Children are asked not to eat or drink on the equipment but if they need refreshments, you are welcome to take them to the waiting area.

 Please do not take any photographs or videos during the classes and refrain from using mobile phones so your child has your full attention.

 Do not let children onto the equipment before or after classes. Please move to the waiting area so we can set-up safely for the next class.

7

Objectives & Benefits

Our progressive play programme is designed to develop your child’s physical skills. Using bespoke colourful equipment, we focus on agility, balance, climbing and co-ordination, which enhances brain development and builds confidence. Every session is supervised by our amazing specially trained staff, getting the best out of each child. Up until 3 years, grown-ups participate as well so that parents, carers and even grandparents can spend time with little ones as they develop.

The journey begins for babies from 6 months old who can sit up unaided. Here’s how our classes break down:

6 Months – Walking

Babies explore the equipment in a happy and relaxed environment. This enhances their brain development and helps them to reach key milestones such as crawling, cruising and walking, taking them onto the next class.

Walking – 2 Years

Confidently walking toddlers are now introduced to an exciting circuit of equipment as well as hand held co-ordination activities, developing their fine motor skills. ‘Circle Time’ helps language development through rhymes and action songs.

2 – 3 Years

Working together in small groups, little ones are introduced to stations with more challenging equipment to refine their agility, balance and climbing skills. Following instructions and learning to take turns develops their listening and social skills, as well as confidence.

3 Years – School Age*

Children now take part independently without their grownup, putting into practice their skills for life. Our staff challenge each child individually to their full potential, preparing them for school, physically, socially and mentally.

Gymbobs

(School Age – 7 Years)*

Gymbobs is the pinnacle class of Tumble Tots, bringing together everything children have learnt so far! Using challenging equipment setups, relay races, team games and warm-up exercises, Gymbobs is a perfect addition to a child’s school P.E. provision.

*For the 3 Years – School Age and Gymbobs (School Age – 7 Years) classes, parents must remain on site.

World Book Day: children have their say for 2023

World Book Day provides a unique opportunity to introduce your children to a lifelong love of reading – plus, you can redeem a book token for a free £1 book between 16th February and the 27th March!

For the first time ever, World Book Day’s selection of £1 books has been curated with the help of children, making this year’s the most exciting and relatable. Featuring life-size creepy crawlies, brave superheroes, and the chance to choose your own adventure, this year’s line-up will spark imagination and introduce children to a love of reading. Children and young people across the UK will receive their very own £1 book token, redeemable for a £1 book – for free – at their local bookshop or supermarket from Thursday 16th February.

Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, parents’ educational background or income. That’s why World Book Day created six tips to help families start children on a lifelong journey of reading for fun by making sure they:

 Listen to books being read aloud

 Take books home to read

 Choose the books THEY want to read

 Make time to read

 Ask for ideas on what to read next

 Have fun reading!

World Book Day’s hub for families www.worldbookday.com/families is packed full of engaging recommendations, activities, and advice to support sharing stories together as a family, not just on World Book Day, but every

day of the year. For early readers and little ones, head over to the “Share a Story Corner”, with short video stories that are easy to fit in around busy schedules and include helpful tips for reading together. Just a few minutes a day can help boost creativity, improve well-being, and start developing a love of books and reading.

This year World Book Day aims to reach more children than ever as it encourages schools, families, and communities to celebrate in the way that best expresses them. Whether that means listening to an audiobook before bedtime, drawing their favourite character or creating a puppet show of their latest story – all reading counts as reading!

World Book Day will be organising all sorts of fun activities and events for World Book Day week, starting from the 27th of February until the 3rd of March. Visit your local bookshop or supermarket anytime between 16th February and 26th March to redeem your token for a free £1 book.

Celebrate World Book Day® on Thursday 2nd March in your own way.

On a mission to change lives through a love of books and reading, this year’s World Book Day is dedicated to ensuring all children can celebrate reading in their own way.

Practical Parenting

According to clinical psychologist Dr. Emma Svanberg, many parents in today’s world feel like they are never getting it quite right. Expectations about what a ‘good’ parent is are impossibly high, at a time when policies that try to support parents still leave many families under intense pressure. This is where her new book, Parenting For Humans comes in. It explores the many reasons why parenting can feel so hard and tries to empower parents to understand their instincts and to see their child as the person they are.

The number one thing Emma wants us to do as parents is throw away the imaginary rule book. If you are truly going to parent the child you have as the person you are, there will be no hack that can magically work for all parents. If it doesn’t work for

you and your child, it doesn’t work, and the huge amount of conflicting advice is complicating parenting not making it easier.

Many of the concerns that parents and parentsto-be bring to Emma boil down to the simple question ‘Is this normal?’ yet over recent years, so little about our environment has been normal. Parents under immense pressure wonder if their own responses are what they should be, and also whether their child is behaving in typical ways.

17
Advice
the wonder

Sharing
of

Emma suggests that perhaps the focus should not be on ‘normal’ but on the unique needs of your family and how to support them. Your job as a parent is to hold them not to mould them.

In this this extract from Parenting for Humans, Emma looks at the relationship between you and your parenting partner.

Partners Who Parent

Although sometimes we may feel that we do, we don’t exist in a vacuum. We are influenced not only by our histories but also by the people we are connected to and the environments we live in. These might be things that affect us directly– like state-led postnatal care, or the head teacher at your children’s school, or the accessibility of playgrounds in your area. But they go all the way up to the attitudes in your society and historical changes that you live through such as, for example, a global pandemic, #MeToo, Brexit, #BlackLivesMatter, the repudiation of Roe v. Wade, global recessions, the climate crisis. All of these interact with each other, and shift over the course of a lifetime. And, just as all of these things will influence our parenting, they will also influence our children.

This is what we so often miss when we talk about parenting. We focus on the role of the parent in a child’s life, but less on the ways that children are born into whole networks of other people. Part of development is figuring out how to exist as part of these networks. And we focus on what parents are doing, and hardly at all on what is happening in their lives and how this influences their feelings, their parenting capacity and their decisions.

One of the most important influences on our parenting journey is who you are raising your child or children with. It’s obvious really, isn’t it, but where in all the stories about love is the one about how love can be stretched to its limits at 4am when you’re both looking at each other over screaming children, with your eyes pleading ‘DO SOMETHING!’ Or, stretched to breaking point when you’re looking at a partner who is fast asleep despite those screaming children . . .

When we talk about parenting, we tend to focus on a mother and a child. We rarely discuss parenting as a couple, the role of fathers and co-parents, or the impact of parenting solo. But, here in the UK, the majority of people parent in an opposite or same-sex couple. And while the number of lone parents is increasing, with one study finding that a third of families they studied had experienced single parenthood, blended families are also increasing due to those lone parents finding new partners. Families shift and change over time, so a child might be raised by parents, grandparents and stepparents in their lifetime. And we as parents might have to negotiate our parenting decisions with all those people too.

❝ ❞

Somehow, we have to join our maps together with the maps of numerous different people – some of whom want to go in a very different direction to us.

How to Avoid Fussy Eating

Celebrity Baby and Child Nutritionist

Charlotte Stirling-Reed’s latest book, How to Feed Your Toddler: Everything You Need to Know to Raise Happy, Independent Little Eaters, tackles the trickiest stage of child nutrition – toddlerhood.

How to Feed Your Toddler brings together Charlotte's trademark approach of evidence-based advice, nurturing support, practical problem-

solving, and delicious recipes to give parents the confidence to help their toddlers develop a positive relationship with food.

The book also contains 50 delicious, healthy and super-easy recipes that introduce little ones to a variety of flavours and textures, whilst also being suitable for the whole family, and versatile for different dietary requirements and lifestyles. With our thanks to Charlotte, she has shared three of her favourites with you here to get you started!

Courgette Cornbread Squares

This is one of my favourite recipes from the book –it’s so tasty and makes a great snack, lunch or side, as well as being fab topped with a dollop of cream cheese and some dill or a spoonful of hummus with some ground pistachios. I love this one on its own though, and it’s now a regular in our freezer. This recipe makes a good amount and packs lots of flavours and textures. I hope your little ones will love it.

Prep: 10–15minutes

Cook: 25–30 minutes Makes: 20–25 squares

Ingredients

50g unsalted butter or dairy-free spread

 4 spring onions, trimmed and finely chopped  2 courgettes (about 350g), trimmed and coarsely grated 

1 large free-range egg, beaten 

125ml milk of choice 

125g Greek yoghurt 

198g tin sweetcorn, drained 

100g plain flour 

150g cornmeal or polenta 

30g mature Cheddar cheese, grated

Instructions

➊ Preheat the oven to 200˚C/180˚C fan. Line a 20 x 30-cm tin with greaseproof paper. ➋ Melt the butter or spread in a large frying pan,

add the spring onions and courgettes and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until soft and cooked down. Leave to one side to cool completely.

➌ Mix the egg, milk, yoghurt and sweetcorn together in a bowl.

➍ Add the flour, cornmeal, Cheddar, and cooled veg, and give it a good mix to combine.

➎ Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for 25 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.

➏ Cool in the tin then transfer to a cooling rack and cut into 20–25 squares. These will keep in an airtight container for 2 days or can be added to your freezer stash.

Sweet Potato and Bean Cakes

These are a great alternative to burgers or fishcakes, and are packed with amazing flavours and textures. The bean mashing does take a little work, but it’s well worth it, and you can make a batch and keep the mixture in the fridge for the next couple of days or freeze some of the cakes for later. Serve in a bun or just on its own, whichever you fancy!

Prep: 15 minutes

Cook: 20–30 minutes

Makes: 10 cakes

Ingredients

 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 400g)

 400g tin kidney beans, drained and rinsed  400g tin cannellini beans, drained and rinsed

1–2 tbsp tomato purée

 2 spring onions, trimmed and finely chopped  80g shop-bought or homemade breadcrumbs

 2 tbsp olive oil  1 ripe avocado, destoned and skin removed  1 lime

Instructions

➊ Preheat the oven to 200˚C/180˚C fan. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.

➋ Wash and scrub the potatoes and prick them on all sides with a fork. Pop them into a microwave for 5 minutes or bake for 1 hour at 200˚C/180˚C fan until the flesh is soft. Leave to one side.

➌ In a bowl mash the beans until they form a paste. Mix in the tomato purée and spring onions and stir until combined. Scoop out the flesh of the cooked potatoes, add to the bowl and mix.

➍ Shape the mixture into 10 balls, then flatten into 8cm wide patties.

➎ Pour the breadcrumbs onto a plate and dip the patties into the breadcrumbs to coat. Transfer the patties to the tray.

➏ Brush each with a little olive oil and bake for 10–15 minutes each side or until golden and hot all the way through.

➐ Once the bean cakes are cooked, leave them to cool a little (this also allows them to firm up). Mash the avocado with a good squeeze of lime and serve the beancakes with a dollop of the avocado alongside for dunking for little ones. For older ones and adults, spread some on top of the cake.

Cheese and Tomato Loaf

This is like a mini focaccia (but takes no time at all!) and packs in the flavours. This was a hit when I was doing the recipe testing and is definitely one for the adults as well as the kids; I’ve even brought it out at a family dinner party recently. As ever with my recipes, you can change up the fillings if you wish. This is delicious (and more balanced) served with some hummus as a dip and some extra veggies or a salad.

Prep: 5 minutes

Cook: 25–30 minutes

Makes: 1 loaf

Ingredients

 250g self-raising flour

 1 large free-range egg or 1 chia seed egg

 200ml milk of choice

 5 spring onions, trimmed and finely sliced

 20 cherry tomatoes, quartered

 100g cheddar cheese, coarsely grated

 drizzle of olive oil

Instructions

➊ Preheat the oven to 200˚C/180˚C fan. Line a 20cm square ovenproof tin with greaseproof paper.

➋ Sift the flour into a bowl and make a well in the middle. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour the milk and egg into the well.

➌ Whisk the mixture together to combine, then add the spring onions, tomatoes and most of the cheese. Stir to mix in the flavours.

➍ Add the mixture to the lined tin, drizzle with a little oil and sprinkle over the reserved cheese. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the loaf is brown on top.

➎ Leave to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then carefully lift the loaf from the tin onto a cooling rack. Leave to cool a little before cutting into chunks and serving. This loaf will keep fresh for around 3 days and it is a great addition to your freezer stash. You can grab a few slices and defrost for a couple of hours in time for lunch!

ABTA’s top tips for securing a great value break in 2023

As we enter into a new year, many families will be thinking about their holiday plans for the year ahead and looking for great value for money more than ever.

That’s why ABTA – The Travel Association has put together its top tips for securing a great value holiday this year, so you can enjoy that muchneeded family break at the price you want to pay.

1

Book with an ABTA Member

ABTA Members are there to make finding your perfect trip so much easier, whether you want to spend a week on the beach, jet off on a weekend city break or enjoy an adventure holiday. They’ll look after you every step of the way, from saving you time by doing all the research and finding the best holiday for your budget, to giving you the latest advice for your destination and being available to offer support if needed.

2

Book early for the best prices and choice

Booking early is one of the best ways to secure a great price for your next break and allows you to lock in your holiday at today’s price. You’ll also have access to the widest choice of accommodation and resorts before others snap them up.

3

Look out for deals and discounts

Take advantage of deals such as free child places or room upgrades, which can make a big difference to a family break. Many tour operators offer these during the peak booking period – which is now – so don’t wait to book or you’re at risk of missing out.

4

Book a package holiday

Booking a package holiday is an excellent way to take the stress out of holiday planning –someone else does all of the hard work for you AND it provides the best form of protection for your travel plans, as your holiday will be protected under the Package Travel Regulations. They are also often cheaper than booking all the elements of your trip separately, as travel companies have access to discounts that are then passed on to you.

5

Consider going all-inclusive

Booking an all-inclusive is a great way to manage your holiday budget, as you’ll get one, upfront cost for your break and won’t need to worry about extra costs when you arrive. Flights, accommodation, transfers and meals usually come as standard, but some resorts also offer a range of activities that the whole family can enjoy too.

6

Try to travel outside of peak periods

If you can travel outside of a destination’s peak period, or during the school holidays outside of the summer months, you’ll be able to take advantage of cheaper prices and fewer crowds. If you can travel mid-week, you’ll also find prices tend to be lower than over the weekend.

7

Buy now, pay later

If you book a package holiday in advance for the summer you will only initially have to pay a deposit with the balance not due until later in the year. This will help your finances under pressure after Christmas and give you a chance to budget effectively.

8

Look forward to your holiday!

Once your trip is booked, you can simply sit back and look forward to heading off together on that all-important break. And, the further in advance you’ve booked, the more time you’ll all have to enjoy the excitement of heading off on your holiday!
