Every morning when I walk through the doors of Mullen High School, I take a sideways glance at the bust of our beloved Brother Bernard, past principal, and president. It was Brother Bernard who often referred to us as the “Mullen Family.” As with any family, we have our joys and sorrows, our frustrations and celebrations, yet despite these ups and downs,

we never forget it is the relationships that form a community. Our Lasallian family is committed to the core values of Lasallian schools. Our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, teaches us that it is we who open the hearts and minds of the children confined to our care. We are called to remember that we are the presence of God and that God provides infinite support in helping us and inspiring us to perform all our actions well. It is St. John Baptist de La Salle who models that the

children entrusted to our care are our priority. These founding principles called me to become an educator 27 years ago. Modern-day philosopher, Margaret J. Wheatley, writes, “The notion of vocations comes from spiritual and philosophical traditions. It describes a “call,” that is given to us, that we are meant to do.” It was with great honor that I received, with open arms, my calling to lead such a remarkable school filled with such remarkable children.
