NEED TO KNOW Week celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. starts Monday Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is being remembered by members of the UCM community with multiple events surrounding MLK Jr. day. Starting Jan. 15, while there are no classes that day, volunteers will be active on campus and out in the community.

That evening, a community praise and worship service event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the UCM Alumni Chapel.

On Wednesday, Jan. 17, an equality photo booth and student volunteer fair will be hosted in the Elliott Student Union atrium beginning at 11 a.m.

Public Safety scheduled to host R.A.D programs soon UCM’s Department of Public Safety is sponsoring Rape Aggression Defense

programs for women. The R.A.D sessions will take place from 6 to 10 p.m.

January 22, 29 and Feb. 5 at the Central Missouri Police Academy at 200 Ming St. Attendance at all three sessions is required. R.A.D is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. R.A.D is instructed by UCM Department of Public Safety Officers at no charge and is open to all students, faculty, staff and their dependents.

Global Vision Scholars expected to travel to Tanzania Applications for the 2018 Global Vision Scholarship are now being accepted. Ten students will be selected to travel to Tanzania for three weeks from June 16 to July 7 with faculty advisor Hannah Marsh and support from the Global Volunteers organization. The deadline to

apply is Feb. 1. Scholarship recipients will be announced prior to spring break.

The Missouri Adoptee Rights Act took effect Jan. 2 for adoptees born in and after 1941. This act allows Missouri-born adoptees of ages 18 and older access to a copy of their original birth certificate.

Governor Nixon signed House Bill 1599 on July 1, 2016. The law said adoptees born before 1941 could request their original birth certificate in Aug. 2016 and adoptees born in and after 1941 could request theirs.

The time frame allowed parents of children born in and after 1941 to redact their names from their certificate.

G’s Adoption Registry hosted Breaking the Seal, an event that took place from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2 for adults that were receiving their information. The event included a New Years Eve dinner, fundraisers and keynote speakers including State Representative Don Phillips.

Cummins said she is involved in support groups and works these events because she knows how difficult of a situation adoption can be. AMBROSE TO HOST HIGHER EDUCATION PANEL ON KMOS-TV'S "INSIDE EDUCATION" PREMIER

UCM President Chuck Ambrose will be hosting the first episode of “Inside Education” at 4 p.m. Thursday. The episode will consist of a panel of presidents and chancellors at the largest institutions in Missouri discussing issues in higher education.

This first episode will include a panel consisting of Kimberly Beatty, the chancellor of Metropolitan Community College; Mun Choi, the president of the University of Missouri System; Zora Mulligan, the Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education; Clif Smart, the pres-

ident of Missouri State University; and Dwaun Warmack, the president of Harris-Stowe State University.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be able to interact with this outstanding group of Missouri education leaders,” Ambrose said. “Higher education faces many challenges, but they are nothing compared to the opportunities our colleges and universities provide. This program will examine the state of Missouri’s higher education and what we must do to ensure institutions remain a strong value proposition for creating engaged citizen-leaders and talent for economic competitiveness that strengthens the state where we live.”

“Inside Education” is a quarterly onehour news program. Each episode will hold a panel and discussion of issues. The

first episode will focus on the importance of higher education to Missourians, access and affordability, the impact of federal tax legislation on public colleges and universities, and what the future looks like for these institutions.

“It’s exciting to be able to collaborate with President Ambrose for the first program in our ‘Inside Education’ series,” said Josh Tomlinson, director of Broadcasting Services at UCM. “Public broadcasting is part of Missouri’s educational fabric, and we look forward to sharing this informative program with our 800,000 viewers in 38 counties.”

The program will air on the university television station, KMOS-TV at 7 p.m.

POLICE BEAT A vehicle was reported stolen at 6:33 p.m. Dec. 19 in the 500 block of Hamilton Street. The car was reported stolen between 5 and 6:30 p.m. from the 800 block of South Mitchell Street.

Grant Umbach, 23, was arrested for suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at 8:33 a.m. Dec. 25 in the 100 block of West South Street.

Desiree Lee, 36, was arrested on a warrant and on suspicion of driving with a suspended license at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 28 on Oak Street.

It was reported at 3:50 p.m. Dec. 28 in the 200 block of West South Street that an unknown person broke a window of a house.

Dale A. Conger III, 21, was arrested at 9:57 p.m. Dec. 28 at the intersection of Warren and Madison streets on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers responded to a call at 7:15 a.m.

4 NEWS ADOPTION, continued from page 3 “I was told they have our records in the county where we were adopted. I knew it was Jackson County, but I even wrote St. Louis City and County,” Magnusson said. “A lady at St. Louis County even called me to say they didn’t have my records, but she had some info about me but wasn’t allowed to tell me. Strangers could know about me but I couldn’t know.”

Magnusson said she went through many different emotions while the bill was in the process of being passed.

She said she feels that many people don’t understand the thought process behind adoptees trying to find out more about where they came from.

“People didn’t understand that adoptees don’t want another family,” Magnusson said. “Many of us had good parents and a family. We wanted what was ours. What others could get. No one really understands if they weren’t adopted or don’t know someone who was adopted.”

She was given contact information for possible relatives and after doing some more digging, she found out she had four siblings, all of which were deceased.

“I had never even thought about having siblings. That was sad especially since I was raised an only child and always wanted a big brother,” Magnusson said.

She has since found more relatives through websites like Ancestry.com. She said the experience helped her get connected with Cummins and Heather Dodd, who started the Missouri Adoptee Rights Movement.

“It has been quite a journey. It is the best thing I have been involved with,” Magnusson said.

UCM student Robin Grillo, who was a senior social work major, died Monday, Jan. 1. A memorial service and visitation was held Wednesday evening at Williams Funeral Home, followed by a reception at Old Barney’s Bar & Grill – where Grillo had worked for a few years.

Grillo was a member of the Social Work Club and Pre-Marriage/Family Therapy Club at UCM. “Robin was just a beautiful person,” Dave Manley, an Old Barney’s regular, said at the reception with an attendance of around 50. “Old Barney’s always feels like family, so it’s just like losing a family member. She was willing to snap back…

I enjoyed messing with Robin because of her personality.”

In a Facebook post, Old Barney’s stated Robin’s “sassy charm and bright smile will be dearly missed. Old Barney’s won’t be the same without you.”

Abyana Botan believes self love is everything. The freshman digital media production major said she grew up feeling a little out of place, but now embraces who she is.

“I was basically the only black person in my school, so I’d get bullied for that not bullied, but just looked at differently because I was different,” Botan said.

Botan said it was weird because no one was like her or looked like her.

“I was always just the odd one out and I was just like ‘I don’t feel like I belong. I don’t even like myself, so how am I supposed to feel like I belong?’” Botan said.

Botan, who was raised in Michigan, said she started to want to look like the other kids. She said it got to the point where she was asking her mom to straighten her hair because it was frizzy and not straight like the other girls.

“I didn’t like my skin color,” Botan said. “I wanted it to be lighter, but now I love it ¬ it’s my favorite part, it’s everything.”

Botan said she moved back to St. Louis, where she was born, and began to fully embrace everything about herself while in high school.

“People started telling me I was beautiful and – well, people always told me that, but I never believed it, and then I just started to, I don’t know, just to love myself and to embrace everything about my culture and just to realize that nothing was wrong,” Botan said. “I was just unique.”

Botan said she grew up with a Muslim father and a Christian mother who taught

her the importance of self love. She spoke about her Somali heritage at UCM’s Story Slam in November of 2017 with her story, “Somali woman.”

“I’m very proud of my roots,” Botan said at the slam. “I used to be embarrassed when my father would come around at school in high school…he has a strong accent. He barely speaks English and I would kind of be embarrassed and now I embrace it because that’s who I am.”

Botan said the gist of her story was to inspire others to be in touch with their roots and to fully love themselves.

“No matter what skin you have, you should always be comfortable in it,” Botan said. “To my black queens – I love you, you’re beautiful. Love the color of your skin because it’s beautiful.”

Botan is an aspiring journalist. She said she was an entertainment editor at her high school newspaper and interned at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch during the summer of her junior year as part of an experiential learning program.

“My mom always hates me for this, but I always say I want to go to war zones,” Botan said. “Like I really do. I just want to … not (just) experience it, but talk to people in different places who have never seen camera equipment. I just want to give them a voice because I know so many people don’t (have one).”

She said it’s her dream to go to Somalia.

“I’ve had so many chances to go, but I’m like ‘No, Dad, I don’t want to.’ Because it’s like (a) war zone there,” Botan said. “But the place that he goes, Mogadishu, is nice but I’m still scared. It still frightens me. How am I supposed to go to a war zone if I’m scared to go to my homeland? “ Botan said one of the main struggles she’s had to overcome is second-guessing herself.

“I always think I’m not where I’m supposed to be even though I am. I think that’s become a main struggle of mine – just not being confident enough, but I’ve definitely overcome that over the years,” Botan said.

She said if there’s one thing she wants to make known, it’s that self love is everything.

“I don’t think loving yourself is conceited,” Botan said.

The Muleskinner has been through many changes in its time starting back in ’72 but even in the few years that I’ve worked here – from a contributor and now to the Managing Editor – the newspaper is still evolving.

In recent times, the paper was placed in abeyance, which led to the newspaper losing its paper aspect.

As an organization, we’re in a transitional state finding our footing as a paperless newspaper until our relaunch in the fall. A steering committee, formed last fall, decided the relaunch will include the continuing restructuring of the Muleskinner with the return of print. This would be in the form of three special issues through the semester, supplemental to the bi-weekly digital issues and daily online publishing. In efforts to redefine our identity, this semester reflects more changes being made.

The biggest change – with those friendly faces to the right – are the newest additions to our staff: Quashaun Logan-Wilkins and Jason Brown are senior sports writers; Chris Holmberg, a senior writer; Garrett Fuller, an assistant editor; and Anaiyeh Smith, our social media coordinator. The expansion of our staff to these positions will allow us to delegate the gradually developing responsibilities of a news organization.

Specifically, being an exclusively online outlet, the expectations of continuously publishing content creates the need for more individuals dedicated to keeping the UCM and Warrensburg community informed in a timely manner. That timeliness doesn’t limit our quality of work though; longer form stories will still be present in the digital issue of the newspaper – only now, every other week starting Jan. 18.

Other adjustments to the digital paper include the relocation of the Sudoku puzzle. We felt as a staff there isn’t the same interactive experience in a digital puzzle as there is a tangible paper and felt it’d be best to replace the puzzle with an informative “This Week in History” column curated by the McClure archives.

Our Sudoku audience shouldn’t fret though; an interactive version of the puzzle will now be available at digitalBURG.com/Muleskinner – just like the rest of our content.

WELCOME CHRIS HOLMBERG Chris Holmberg is a senior writer for the Muleskinner, officially joining the staff in the Spring 2018 semester after working as a contributor the previous two semesters, finally earning the desk he claimed unofficially in the fall of 2017.

After graduating from Warrensburg High School, he began covering local sports part-time for the Sedalia Democrat in 2006. Now he’s at UCM pursuing a degree in digital media and production, focusing on journalism, and again works part-time for the Sedalia Democrat covering local sports.

He lives in Warrensburg with his wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Morgan, and the ridiculous cat that they brought home without telling him they were going to do so.

His biggest regret in life is being born too late to attend a Jethro Tull concert during Ian Anderson’s prime years, though he has recently come to accept that there was nothing he could have done to change that.

ANAIYEH SMITH

Anaiyeh was born outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to the Chicago area shortly after where she was raised most of her life – she loves the big city! She came to UCM to run track and field and pursue a degree in Speech Language pathology. After her first year, she decided to change her major because she knew she wanted to do something that she loved.

She changed her major to communication studies her sophomore year and declared a minor in digital media production shortly after. She has always had a passion for writing creativity ANDconstructively. She also loves being involved on campus and meeting new people and going to all the fun events on campus through the Muleskinner as well as other journalism classes.

As the social media coordinator, she hopes to promote the paper more and get students excited about reading the content THE MULESKINNER CREATES. She also hopes to spark the interest of readers and motivate them to get involved as well.

In her free time, she loves to run, lift, paint, relax at the lake with her daughter and spend time outdoors. In the future, she aspires to be a news reporter, print journalist or social media coordinator

Jason Brown is a junior Digital Media Production student at UCM. He is from Independence, Missouri and graduated from Blue Springs South High School in 2013. He began his college career as an education major with aspirations to become a high school history teacher, but a year and a half later he decided that he wanted to pursue a business degree.

Shortly after making that decision, Jason made one last change and transferred to UCM to enter the DMP program and emphasize in digital journalism. He specializes in sports journalism but is also interested in reporting politicand pop culture. After graduation, Jason would like to cover sports at a publication in Kansas City, but is open to going anywhere to be a sports reporter.

QUASHAUN LOGAN-WILKINS

Quashaun Logan-Wilkins is also the senior sports editor for the Muleskinner.

He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and is a senior working toward his bachelor’s degree in digital media production with a minor in sports communication.

His emphasis within digital media production is live studio, and for his future profession, he wants to pursue sports broadcasting or sports journalism. His job as a senior sports writer is to provide UCM the latest sports news topics and updates to the Warrensburg and UCM communities.

GARRETT FULLER I am a Freshman attending UCM to obtain a BSBA in Computer Information Systems. Originally from Boonville, Mo., my hobbies include computers and photography. After graduating from UCM I intend on starting a career in Information Technology.

My prior experience in journalism include serving four years as the social media and web editor for our high school newspaper, the Pirate Press. I also served a four-month internship at the local newspaper office and wrote City Council summaries for KMZUFM. In addition to writing articles and taking pictures of anything from portraits to large sporting events, I also became proficient with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

In addition to starting a new position as an assistant editor for The Muleskinner, I am also an Office Assistant at Ellis, as well as involved with TRIO.

A REVIEW: ‘STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI’

“Star Wars: Episode VII ¬– The Last Jedi” was released to theaters Dec. 14, 2017. Not including “Rogue One,” “The Last Jedi” marks the eighth film entry in the Star Wars franchise and the second entry in the new trilogy. “The Force Awakens” divided moviegoers when it premiered, and it was even more so for “The Last Jedi.” It seems that critics loved the film and audience members hated it. Who’s right? The critics or the fans? Here’s my two cents.

This movie has both good parts and bad parts. Generally, everyone who watched this movie would agree on that. The question is, which overshadows the other?

The battle scenes are amazing – the one in the climax is my favorite moment in the film. It was beautiful, along with most of the scenery throughout the film.

The comedy can be hit or miss. Sometimes it works well and other times it feels misplaced. For the most part, the characters are still good, especially the ones introduced in the previous film. I felt they were able to expand more through this follow up.

“The Last Jedi” does have some plot holes, but to be honest, so does every “Star Wars” movie. There are moments that make you scratch your head because it didn’t make that much sense. The story could’ve also been shorter as well. I think two and half hours long was excessive.

I have mixed feelings about Luke Skywalker in “The Last Jedi.” His character has become a dark, bitter old man. In the

past, he was hopeful and could see the good inside Darth Vader, one of the worst people in the galaxy. But he couldn’t see any good in Kylo Ren, his own nephew, when he was struggling with the dark side?

To be fair, Mark Hamill himself didn’t like how Luke was written either. The writer/director, Rian Johnson, didn’t agree.

But despite all that, I still appreciated what happened to Luke later on in the film.

“The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi” feel like different movies, with the latter having a different vision than the former. This is because “The Last Jedi” was not written or directed by J.J. Abrams like “The Force Awakens” was. He was replaced with Rian Johnson, who has his own vision for “Star Wars” – now Abrams knows how George Lucas feels.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Porgs.

They are these new, small adorable creatures, and are the franchise’s latest attempt to increase toy sales. This is obvious right from their first appearance. Of course, having adorable characters intended to be merchandise is not a new concept for “Star Wars.” A prime example would be the “cute” Ewoks from “Return of the Jedi” – who are not so cute if you know how evil they actually are.

Now “The Last Jedi” does borrow elements from “The Empire Strikes Back.”

Both have roughly the same plot – desperate rebels on the run from overwhelming odds. There is also a battle sequence with small rebel aircrafts against Imperi-

al Walkers. I swear, it doesn’t feel like a rip-off. In fact, it borrows elements from “Return of the Jedi” as well. And unlike “The Force Awakens,” it doesn’t feel like a blatant copy-and-paste version of “A New Hope.”

I appreciate that this movie tried to introduce new characters rather than just rely on previous ones. However, there is an instance where a famous person in the franchise does make a cameo, and I am pleased to say it was well done and wasn’t just mere nostalgia.

I really did like this movie. It’s not quite as good as any from the original trilogy, but it’s still a good film. In its defense, it’s truly difficult for any “Star Wars” sequel to be better than the original trilogy. After all, those movies are “perfect” and “untouchable.”

Is it a great movie or is it just a good movie? I think it’s somewhere in between, but one could still argue either way. If you’re expecting perfection, then you won’t like this movie.

If you watch this movie, maybe the flaws will out-weigh the positive elements, or maybe they won’t. For me, it was a pleasant movie-going experience.

Regardless, I hope the final film of the new trilogy is better and is the best one yet. I also really hope there is not another Death Star to blow up, that would make me angry.

May the force be with us.

The action/adventure movie “Baby Driver” was released last summer. The film follows a getaway driver named Baby, played by Ansel Elgort, that listens to classic music as he drives from heist to heist with extreme skill.

“Baby Driver” is the latest film by famous writer/director Edgar Wright. The filmmaker is best known for creating “Scott Pilgrim’s vs. the World” and the “Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End). “ There are many highlights of this movie. The visuals are impressive and so is the use of color. The chase scenes are amazing and very fun to watch. The music might be the best part though. A lot of old, classic songs including “B-A-B-Y,” “Nowhere to Run to Baby” or of course “Baby Driver” – noticing a pattern?

Music played constantly in the film, whether it was while Baby was getting a cup of coffee or running for his life – apparently, recent movies only play old, classic music.

All these factors combined for a highly entertaining film. Even in scenes that should be boring or dull, it can still be a fun time. The dialogue is clever as well, being fast paced and intelligent. The characters are just as colorful as the backgrounds.

The movie has a star-studded cast with Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal and Jon Hamm all playing bank robbers – ironically, Jon Hamm played an F.B.I. agent who hunts

down bank robbers in “The Town.”

The film has an R-rating, though honestly, it’s pretty tame. There’s some swearing and some bloodshed, but besides that, nothing that’s too mature.

A trademark of Wright’s is creating movies that audiences can watch. “Baby Driver” contains many references, lines and objects in the background that can go unnoticed after the first viewing, so you may have to watch it a second time to catch everything. Or, if you don’t feel like it, you can just watch a video on YouTube that will do the work for you.

Rotten Tomatoes gave “Baby Driver” a 100 percent rating. I really enjoyed this film, but it’s not quite that good. The movie has flaws. Some of the characters are awesome, and some are not. Baby’s girlfriend is kind of boring and not very interesting.

At times the plot can also feel predictable.

However, the movie does take advantage of that. Instead of giving you what you expect to happen, something different happens.

The biggest problem in “Baby Driver” is not the film’s fault. Kevin Spacy is in this movie and he plays one of the main characters. If that’s a turn off for you, I understand.

Now the ending isn’t very realistic. This can also be said for the car chases and the gun fights. But granted, this movie never tries to be realistic. Instead, it tries to be a fun experience for the audience.

Edgar Wright has stated before that is what he wants to see in his films.

“I want to look at something that is somewhat like a magical experience, something that feels not quite like real life, something like the movies,” Wright said.

Watching “Baby Driver” is exactly that.

Bear in mind, the ending itself may or may not have been real. Moviegoers have debated if it was part of the story or just Baby’s fantasy. The truth could possibly be revealed in the sequel – there is talk about making one Overall, “Baby Driver” isn’t Wright’s best film, “Hot Fuzz” is still his masterpiece. But “Baby Driver” was one of my favorite movies I saw over the year. That’s not to say that the other movies released during 2017 were bad. Many really good movies came out that year including: “Spider-man: Homecoming,” “Wonder Woman,” “Dunkirk,” “Logan,” “Get Out,” “Wind River” or “The Lego Batman Movie” to name a few.

I do recommend watching “Baby Driver.” I hope you have as much fun watching it as I had.

Fun fact: Edgar Wright thought about making “Baby Driver” over 20 years ago.

He came up with the idea back in the ‘90s, and later on he made a music video in 2003, “Blue Song” by Mint Royale. The video was based around a getaway driver who loves listening to music. Now that is commitment to an idea.

MULES CARRY FIVE GAME WIN STREAK INTO BEARCATS REMATCH

The Mules basketball team had a busy winter break, playing in six contests. The break began with the toughest test of the Mules’ season with the nation’s top ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. The Bearcats were dominant in a 79-55 victory, but the Mules weren’t discouraged and followed the loss with five straight wins, four of which came against conference foes, making their overall record 12-2.

Now the Mules will put that five game streak on the line against the team that sparked it when they travel to Maryville Thursday to face the Bearcats in their final regular season matchup, tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The once undefeated Bearcats

have suffered a loss in the month since these teams first met and now sport a 13-1 record.

The key to this game is the Mules need to shoot like they did in the second half in their first meeting with the Bearcats.

UCM shot a dismal 25 percent from the field in the first half of last month’s contest, but came out in the second half and improved that number to 47 percent while adding an impressive 60 percent from long range.

The Mule to watch Thursday is senior guard Spencer Reaves, who led the way with 19 points and five rebounds when these teams last played. Reaves has also scored in double digits in his last four games. Also pay attention to senior guard D.J. Richardson who has been on a roll lately scoring his season high of 22 points against Missouri Valley during this five-

game win streak.

On the other side, senior guard Justin Pitts will be the Bearcat to watch. Pitts is following up his junior season in which he was the Division II National Player of the Year with perhaps an even better showing. His 29 points in Warrensburg last month were a game high and he rarely missed shooting 11-13 from the field.

The Mules will stay on the road for the

rest of the week as they travel to St. Joseph to take on Missouri Western in their second meeting of the season; in which the Mules won the first game 67-51 Dec. 14.

If you want to catch the Mules here in Warrensburg, you’ll have to wait until Thursday, Jan. 18, when Lincoln University comes to town, that game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building.

SPORTS UPDATES UPDATES SPORTS Jennies hit the road Jennies basketball hits the road after going 2-0 last week with a record of 11-1 for the season for their first back to back road game trip in MIAA Conference play. The Jennies are currently 5-0 in MIAA competition and are the only unbeaten team in the MIAA this season. They are also 1-0 on the road with their only road win against Southwest Baptist 80-75 on The

Jennies will face the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, who currently hold a record of 1-13 and 0-6 in the MIAA, at 5:30 p.m Thursday, Jan. 11, in Maryville. Then the Jennies will head to St. Joseph to face the Missouri Western Griffons that holds a record of 10-5, and 3-3 in MIAA. That game will be at 2 p.m Saturday, Jan. 13.

The Jennies defeated the Bearcats 77-40 with a 15 point, 12 rebound double-double

from Kayonna Lee. They turned around to defeat the Griffons 70-48 in which four Jennies were in double figure points. The Jennies’ all time record against the Bearcats is 67-26 with 10 wins in their last 11 previous meetings, and their all time record against the Griffons is 37-29 with three straight wins in their three previous matchups.

The Jennies are 12th by the WBCA poll

and have moved up two spots in the D2SIDA to 10th, which is their highest rank this season. The only other MIAA team in either poll is Central Oklahoma who is ranked 15th in the WBCA. The Jennies are currently on an 8 game winning streak and hope to continue the streak on the road in MIAA play.

Mules on the board as he went a full three periods with Will Steltzlen who is ranked seventh nationally at 149 pounds. Steltzlen held on to a close 3-2 win by decision as the Bronchos continued to dominate with an 18-0 lead. At the midway point the Bronchos had a clear advantage over the Mules with a commanding lead of 23-0 .

But Reser changed what looked to be like a shutout win for the Bronchos as the Mules finally got on the board. Reser

trailed 4-1 early in the first period to Mason Thompson, but outscored him 7-1 for the rest of the match to win by decision 11-5, which put the dual at 23- 3.

The Mules lost their last few matches after that to put the Bronchos on a commanding win of 43-3. The Mules continue dual competition this Saturday, January 13th at the UNK Midwest Duals. They will be taking on three teams in Colorado Messa, Mary, and Colorado School of Mines. Action gets started at 9:00 am.

Jim Crane. He played for the Mules from 1973-76, in which he posted a 21-8 record with a career 2.42 ERA. Jim Crane still sitting at the top spot in UCM’s career leaderboards in complete games (23), shutouts (7), and ranked third in strikeouts (215). He holds the Mules and Division II World Series single game record for strikeouts with 18. Crane was inducted into Central Missouri’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997, and also earned an induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame last year.

Crane is a big contributor to Central Missouri to provide athletic scholarships for Mules baseball. He was also the primary underwriter of $1.2 million renovation in 1998 of the Old Mules field which has be renamed the James R. Crane Stadium. In 2016, Crane and the UCM Foundation upgraded the university’s baseball facility to synthetic turf in efforts to make UCM’s baseball program one of the best in the country.

Mules Wrestling falls to No. 13 Central Oklahoma

Central Missouri Mules Wrestling had a rough night against No. 13 Central Oklahoma Bronchos after coming off a win on Tuesday Night against Newman Jets. This was the Mules second road MIAA dual of the season and they fell to the Bronchos 41-3. After that loss, it drops the Mules to an overall record of 3-6 and 1-1 in the MIAA.

Jesse Reser was the only wrestler for the Mules to pick up a win at 165 pounds. Since the beginning of the New

Year, Reser has a record of 5-0 on the season with all of his wins coming in all dual competitions.

UCM found themselves down early in action after falling to 12-0 deficit to UCO who holds a record of 7-2, 2-0 in the MIAA, as the Mules forfeited at both 125 pounds and 133 pounds for the second straight dual. Zachery Schridde dropped a 5-1 decision, putting the Mules down 15-0.

It was reported at 12:41 a.m. Dec. 4, 2017 that an officer detected the odor of marijuana emitting from a room on the second floor of Todd Hall. The resident did not answer the door and was referred for university discipline.

Anna Diouf was arrested at 2:42 a.m.

Dec. 4, 2017 in UCM Lot 9 on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after an officer observed a vehicle with two occupants parked in the corner of the lot with foggy windows and detected the odor of marijuana.

It was reported at 2:50 p.m. Dec. 4, 2017 that dispatch advised of a stolen vehicle from UCM Lot 67. The owner stated sometime between 10 p.m. Dec. 3 and 8:30 a.m. Dec. 4 someone stole her gold 2002 Chevrolet Impala from UCM Lot 67. The vehicle was located at 4:15 p.m. parked along Anderson Street in front of UCC. It was determined the vehicle was never stolen and that she was experiencing a mental health crisis. She was released to her parents.

It was reported at 9:22 p.m. Dec 4, 2017 that an officer detected the odor of marijuana emitting from a room on the first floor of South Yeater. The room was searched but nothing illegal was found.

The resident will be referred for university discipline.

It was reported at 9:04 a.m. Dec. 5, 2017 that between 12 p.m. Dec. 2 and 9 a.m. Dec. 5 someone broke the toilet paper dispensers in the men and women’s restrooms on the second floor of The Crossing.

It was reported at 5 p.m. Dec. 5, 2017 that an officer was needed on the second

floor of South Ellis Hall in reference to the odor of marijuana. The officer contacted a male in his room who allegedly stated he had smoked marijuana off campus earlier.

The officer conducted a consent search of his room and did not located anything illegal. The incident will be forwarded for university discipline.

It was reported at 10:36 p.m. Dec. 5, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer to the fourth floor of North Ellis Hall in reference to a disturbance in progress. The officer contacted the involved subjects in their room. After an investigation, it was determined a verbal argument occurred and no arrest was made.

It was reported at 9:22 a.m. Dec. 6, 2017 that an officer was requested in reference to a theft. The reporting party was contacted at the Department of Public Safety and said between 11 p.m. Dec. 4 and 12 p.m. Dec. 5, he lost his wallet at or around the Fraternity Complex.

It was reported at 10 a.m. Dec. 6, 2017 that an officer arrived at Warrensburg High School to assist WHS personnel with drug sniffs of the student parking lot.

During the sniff, K9 Echo indicated the presence of a narcotic odor coming from a vehicle. WHS personnel contacted the driver of the vehicle who then retrieved a marijuana pipe from the center console.

Disciplinary actions will be handled by WHS personnel and the Warrensburg Police Department.

It was reported at 4:53 p.m. Dec. 6, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer respond to the Union service lot in reference to a leaving the scene of a vehicle accident. Jeffrey A. Huffman stated that he parked his vehicle in the service lot

at approximately 4 p.m. He said when he returned to his vehicle he observed damage to the driver’s rear fender and door of his vehicle. The damage appeared to be caused by an unknown vehicle that left the scene.

It was reported at 6:09 p.m. Dec. 6, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer respond to Public Safety in reference to a male asking two females if he could touch their hair. One female stated she was approached by a male at the football stadium on Dec. 5 who asked her if he could style her hair.

The second female stated the same male approached her at the football stadium approximately one month ago and asked her if he could style her hair. The individual was identified as a student that has a history of similar behavior and was referred for university discipline.

It was reported at 6:36 p.m. Dec. 7, 2017 that someone stole a purse and contents from an unlocked Sodexo van between 1:10 p.m. and 1:37 p.m. in either the driveway of the Achauer House or the Union Service Lot. It was reported at 9:59 p.m. Dec. 7, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer respond to Central Village building 8 regarding a noise complaint. While making contact with the occupant of the room, an odor of marijuana was detected. After an investigation, it was determined the occupant smoked marijuana at a location off campus. The incident will be forwarded to housing for a disciplinary referral.

It was reported at 10:36 p.m. Dec. 7, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer respond to a room in Bradshaw Hall regarding a drug law violation. At 8:43 p.m., after an investigation, it was determined that the occupants of the room had used marijuana at a location off campus. The incident will be forwarded to housing for disciplinary referral.

It was reported at 3:50 p.m. Dec. 8, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer to the third floor of South Yeater Hall due to an odor of marijuana. An officer observed the door to the suspected room was open and detected the odor of marijuana coming from the room. The occupants of the room did not return. The room was secured and the incident is being referred to housing for disciplinary referral.

It was reported at 5:31 Dec. 8, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer to Foster Knox in reference to a possible drug law violation. An officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the occupants of a room on the first floor. The occupants advised they were around people who were smoking it off campus. The officer searched the room but did not located anything illegal. The incident will be referred to housing for disciplinary referral.

It was reported at 2:31 a.m. Dec. 9, 2017 that while on an unrelated call, an officer detected a strong odor of marijuana outside the south doors to Todd Hall. The officer was unable to locate the source of the odor.

It was reported at 1:50 p.m. Dec. 9, 2017 that a vehicle accident had occurred on the east side of UCM Lot 33. An officer contacted the driver of the striking vehicle who stated she was driving her blue Honda Accord north in the east side lane when she struck the rear bumper of an unoccupied parked black Chevrolet Suburban causing scratches to the bumper. The suburban came back as a dealer vehicle with no driver contact information.

Benjamin T. Long was arrested at 2:48 a.m. Dec. 8, 2017 on suspicion of possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer observed a vehicle with the engine running in UCM Lot 44. Long appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat.

It was reported at 11:29 p.m. Dec. 9, 2017 that an officer was flagged down by a male subject outside of Greenwood Park Apartments while on mobile vehicle patrol in UCM Lot 43. The male stated an individual he knew entered his girlfriend’s apartment and pointed a handgun at him and other occupants of the apartment and demanded money. He stated he retrieved $400 in cash from his car and gave it to the individual. The male stated the suspect left on foot westbound from the apartment.

It was reported at 11:20 a.m. Dec. 8, 2017 that dispatch requested an officer to Nattinger Hall for a domestic disturbance that just occurred. After an investigation, it was determined that the suspect assaulted the victim in Todd Dining Hall and Bradshaw Hall, who then fled the area. The victim was taken to Western Missouri Medical
