TETRA RESIDENCE

In the context of social housing, upbringing is influenced by the environment in which a child is raised in. Childhood is the most precious time of life, a time of rapid development when experiences shape the adults we become. A child’s healthy growth and development are dependent on many factors, including the immediate environment in which they live. Research has demonstrated that children’s life chances (the factors that affect their current and future well-being) are affected by the standard of their housing. As such, children need spaces where they can play without harming others or themselves. Therefore, integrated playgrounds within a social housing such as an apartment could be a viable solution.Furthermore, play areas support the development of the children and the whole community in terms of physical, mental, and social aspects. Playgrounds are, it is important not to forget, fun for children and this fun will have lasting positive effects on their development. In sum, Improving quality residential life also requires the opportunities for the improvement of cultural and recreational facilities as well.

WEATHER DATA RAIN PRECIPITATION The rainy season falls in the months of January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.

SOUTH WEST MONSOON The southwest monsoon is the drier season throughout the country except for the Borneo continent in eastern Malaysia. During this season, the site experience minimum rainfall.

NORTH EAST MONSOON Rain bearing seasonal winds that flow when the south west monsoon retreats from the Indian mainland.

They pick up the moisture mostly and gives rain to many in South East Asia.

The site is affected from OctoberMarch.

IDEATION

The vision of a social housing that caters toward the development of children through play spaces while creating an interconnected community which heavily relates to upbringing. Upbringing is defined as the treatment and instruction received by a child from its parents throughout its childhood.

In the context of social housing, upbringing is influenced by the environment in which a child is raised in.

Research has demonstrated that children’s life chances (the factors that affect their current and future well-being) are affected by the standard of their housing.

In relation to the site which is located in Taman Keramat that is within Ampang Jaya, There are lots of flat housing and low cost-apartments that only either provide small communal spaces or none at all that could be a place for kids to play or socialize. Therefore, the lack of communal play spaces confine the children to play inside their own house which could lead to their own risk of safety or even vandalism since the children do not have an outlet to play at or even express themselves.

As such, children need spaces where they can play without harming others or themselves. Therefore, integrated playgrounds within a social housing such as an apartment could be a viable solution.Furthermore, play areas support the development of the children and the whole community in terms of physical, mental, and social aspects. SAFE PLAY CULTURE The design of this residence should be able to allow as much supervision as possible regarding the children’s play activities from the ground floor until the rooftop so that the children are able to play without any harm or risk.

EXPLORATION OF SENSES The playground should also be created for the purpose of stimulating the majority of the senses of the children using them that can be either through sight, smell, hearing or touch since it would greatly help in the children’s individual development.

CONTINUOUS PLAYGROUND The integrated playgrunds should be designed in a way that is continuous so that the circulation would be clear for the residents especially the children in order for them to easily find their way around the building.

COMMUNAL INTERACTION The overall layout of the apartment should also be able to bring the residents closer to each other to produce a healthy community where the residents are encouraged to meet and know one another

TORLOSEN TOWER, SWEDEN The programme takes a holistic approach on eastern Malmo. It is to encourage the urban life and favour movements through different parts of the city and to create a cursor that links Rosengard to the inner city just like how Taman Keramat is in Kuala Lumpur.

It should be a tower with strong connections to the ground, like an urban landscape on height.

Varying dwelling units The Tornrosen Tower offers different dwelling units in a varied environment. The ability to divide the building into neighbourhoods will make the building anchor better in the area.

Vertical Urban Street The building is an urban street where you can consider part of the units a s a n e n t i r e neighbourhood since the biggest social problem in high rise is isolation of inhabitants from each other.

Colour Definition The programs in the building are defined by the colours. It shows how variety is important in order to keep the building interesting.

Edge Zones The area’s edge zones involve the creation of a smooth transition between public and private areas, to help create contact and shape the urban environment.

Terrace Design The project offers outdoor terraces for each apartment due to the strict setback restrictions of the site, capitalizing on the views of the adjacent mountains. The terraces from the offices and apartments also make usera interact on a daily basis reinforcing a stronger sense of community.

Public Space Highpark is a building for the city, as it opens its public plaza as an extension to be occupied by the quotidian. The building steps back as a way of integrating the building into the pedestrian realm.

Floor Plate Shifting As a recurring design concern for rojkind arquitectos and as a way of integrating the building into the pedestrian realm (giving back to the community), the building steps back to create an outdoor shaded space that can be enjoyed by the residents and visitors alike.
