The “Com-Vert Garden” is an abbreviation for “Community-Vertical Garden”, which refers to “converting” a village with an aging population, but without any social cohesion, into a livable neighborhood in which the elderlies have a direct relation with food and nature. In this project, “food” and “nature” are tackled as design tools to improve wellbeing of elderly people and prevent the health problems that are seen as inevitable consequences of aging process, while fixing the food system by introducing urban agriculture to the city. In this utopia, the local and short food system is shaping the already-existing urban context in which the market place becomes the center of the neighborhood Sint-Denijs Westrem to be a self-sufficient village regarding food. It is "converted" into a neighborhood that meets its food supply inside the neighborhood in daily basis, which is maintained by sustainable production and transportation by 2050. This ecological utopia is actualized in "Com-Vert Garden".
