1. A year around the world: a positive balance More than 200 Spanish brands exhibiting at the 30 most relevant international fairs and events, openings of new showrooms in main cities, B2B meetings, trade missions, contract projects and a long list of promotional activities‌ Spanish furniture manufacturers have been busy travelling from one country to another in order to explore new business opportunities and to gain reputation in both mature and emerging markets. Figures confirm that this long journey around the world has given good results with overseas markets showing an increasing interest in the Spanish furnishing offer.

Figures At the end of September 2013, Spain’s exports of furniture amounted to 1,188 million euros, registering an increase of +12.6% over the last year’s figures for the same period.

Rich in styles and ranges and with a unique emotional approach, Furniture from Spain has consolidated its presence in four UE countries: France, Portugal, Germany and the United Kingdom, which rank 1st to 4th among Spain’s major markets.

Sales have increased significantly in all the other top ten importers with the exception of Italy. Exports to the United Kingdom increased by an impressive +30.3%, while sales to Russia were up by +24% and to the Netherlands by +93%.

Markets In the Middle East, where Spain’s furniture is highly appreciated and used in major projects in all the Gulf region, exports are doing well in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE and Qatar. Sales to Turkey, in particular, rose dramatically by 104.5%, due to the positive trend of the Turkish economy and its real estate sector.

In smaller volumes, exports are also growing in Africa, with many emerging economies increasing their demand of Spanish products. As the case of Equatorial Guinea that expanded its purchases of Spain’s furniture by +14.8%, ranking now 17th.

This rank of destination markets reveals a trend towards the diversification of main clients, with emerging countries gaining prominence against mature markets. The trend is not accidental, but rather the fruit of a stronger promotional campaign carried out both by the companies individually and by public institutions and associations, such as ANIEME, the National Spanish Association of Furniture Manufacturers and Exporters.

2013 kicked off with batteries fully charged for the 29 Spanish companies exhibited at IMM Cologne at the beginning of January.

Brands such as GANDÍA BLASCO, EXPORMIM, VONDOM, LA EBANISTERÍA, MOBLIBERICA, ONDARRETA, ANDREU WORLD, KETTAL and GRASSOLER put on display in halls 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 and 11 their broad range of new interior concepts and innovative design products.

I Saloni Moscow Russia October 16-19 At the ninth edition of I SALONI WORLDWIDE MOSCOW, the Spanish furnishing industry was represented by 34 brands of MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA that exhibited in Pavilion 2 at Moscow’s Crocus Expo from Wednesday 16th to Saturday 19th October. MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA, which was the second foreign contingent after Italy, put on display a vast array of furnishings in different styles and ranges for home and contract use.

Trade mission Kazakhstan ANIEME has been working the Kazakh market for 10 years now, considering it as a good way to access other CIS countries, such as Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, and to promote Spain’s manufacturers of medium-high to high-end furniture. The 7 brands participating in the mission, that took place in June 2 to 6, presented to local buyers and specifiers the diverse furnishing and decorative offer of Spain, in classic and avant-garde style for indoor, outdoor and contract use.

Trade mission Russia From September 29th to October 5th, a group of 5 furniture companies from the Valencia Community visited clients in Moscow and St. Petersburg. This trade mission is a follow-up to the opportunities identified in previous ANIEME’s market research and visits to other Russian markets, such as Chelyabinsk, Ufa, Novosibirsk, Ekaterimburg, Rostov, Stavropol, Sochi, Nalchik, etc. Promotion events took place as well in the most renowned furniture showrooms in Pyatigorsk and Volgograd.

B2B meeting in Ghana

Ghana’s growing urbanization and real estate market have led over the latest years to a significant increase of the furniture imports and as a consequence the country has turned itself into a main target for the Spanish furnishing industry. In order to introduce their products into the Ghanaian market, in June 18 to 22, companies of MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA met importers, interior designers, architects, developers and hospitality groups in a B2B meeting that took place in one the most renowned hotels in Accra. They also visited main showrooms and studios consolidating their collaborations with local buyers.

Trade mission & Business Developer Nigeria After ANIEME’s 2012 market research (1st phase), that explored the business opportunities for Spain’s furniture brands in Nigeria, in October 9 companies took part in a four-day trade mission to Nigeria (2nd phase) in order to expand their presence in this African market: ALMERICH, CURVASA, MONTERO, OFIFRAN, POINT, PORTA LATINA, TAJOMA, TAPIZADOS PRIEGO, VIRTUS.

Soon after the trade mission, the third phase of the Project Nigeria started, with the promoter strengthening the established business relationships and organizing the personal visit of Spanish brands to their Nigerian clients.

The Spanish comfort was a great protagonist at the latest editions of the fairs ACETECH 2013 and INDEX MUMBAI, the biggest Indian platforms for the furnishing and construction industries. In collaboration with its local distributor, Meracasa, a group of six Spainâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s upholstery & sofas brands exhibited their latest products for the Indian market at these big events in October and November.

Since its economic opening and after 20 years of sustained growth, China has turned itself into a main producer and exporter of furnishing products. On the other hand, the economic expansion and the improvement of the standards of living, as well as the increasing urbanization process and the housing estate development, have led to a higher demand and consumption of furniture and home dĂŠcor products. To explore the market and give the Spanish companies the possibility to introduce their brands into China, in March 11 to 15, ANIEME organized a mission of 6 companies to Beijing and Shanghai.

B2B in Brunei Last May a group of Spanish high-end furniture manufacturers – AMBOAN, MARINER, OFITA and TECNI NOVA – moved to Brunei to take part in a B2B with architects and interior designers organized by DAT-CO, the most renowned quality furniture establishment in Brunei Darussalam. The local press reported about the presence of Spanish furniture brands at the opening of the new showroom entirely dedicated to high-end European home-décor.

After HD Las Vegas, which closed on 17th May, another jump across the pond for the Spanish design! Thirteen Spain’s design firms exhibited at ICFF New York in May 18 to 21 and 3 of them were brands of MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA: CAPDELL, FAMA, VONDOM. They proved successful as Spain took home two ICFF 2013 Editors awards: CAPDELL for the best seating and Marset for the best lighting.
