To the parents of our cast: we know that nothing is more precious than your children. We take seriously the responsibility of teaching and guiding them through a show-creating process, and we will continually strive to do the best we can for these youth.
In this we have a great "north star" - Kim Gee Vines, the last Executive Director of Music Theatre for Young People. Kim and the MTYP board have allowed us to carry the MTYP programs forward under the auspices of Music Theatre Wichita. Anyone who knows Kim knows that she has a deep respect for children, and a belief that the theatre can help them discover who they are meant to be. The hallmark of Kim's tenure at MTYP was that she centered everything around what was best for each student who came through the organization's doors.
This first year has been one of learning, growth, reflection - not only for the students, but also for our staff! We remain humbled by the support and the success of those who did this work before. We also want to mention that Kim's friend, journalist Corie Brown, made a generous gift this year in Kim's honor to support access and inclusion to anyone interested in joining an MTW/MTYP production in the future. To make a gift to the Kim Gee Vines fund, or to make a recommendation for how this fund can support families in our community, you can email us at office@mtwichita.org.
“We are grateful. And we think you'll all be proud of what these young talents have accomplished.”
