KSD TVET COLLEGE: STUDENTS RUSH TO CATCH UP ON WORK
College classes resume LUVO CAKATA
S
TUDENTS at King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College’s Zimbane Campus are facing a tough catch-up plan if they are to pass their final examinations, which commence on November 5. This is due to several weeks of disrupted learning at the campus as students boycotted classes demanding, among other things the procurement of sanitary towels for the students, building and maintenance of ablution facilities on their campus and the assistance of students with practical placements. Students also complained about the alleged
delay in the issuing certificates. KSD College communications and marketing manager, Zigqibo Kahla, said, following a meeting between the college management and student representatives on October 10, they reached agreements on key issues and resolved to return to classes immediately. “The meeting resolved on a number of issues that were bones of contention between management and students and we are happy that the students have decided to go back to classrooms as the boycotting of classes has caused students to fall behind in their respective syllabuses,” said Kahla. He further said that the college had already begun to procure sanitary towels.
As part of the catch-up plan, students will now attend weekend classes as the college needs to submit their year marks (DP) to the Higher Education and Training Department by October 25. The college is also planning an information session day soon so that they can be able to explain some of the misunderstandings that caused the class boycott in the first place. On the issue of a delay in issuing certificates, Kahla said that this was caused by instances where a student received practical training which did not correspond with the course they were doing and subsequently did not get credited for that training. SRC member Solomzi Sompetha also expressed happiness that classes were resuming.
