HE Eastern Cape Department of Sport’s programme of developing different sporting codes in rural areas has received a major boost with the completion of a R13,8 million swimming pool project at Mnquma near Butterworth Hospital.

The project was initially meant to be constructed in 2010 but because of various challenges they experienced, it was only completed last month.

The initial budget for the project was R9 million, but two contractors who were given a tender by the department from 2010 until 2012 had left it incomplete.

In 2016 the department gave another contractor the tender and they resumed work on the project until they completed it last month.

The pool has a change room for swimmers, offices, stands for fans, purifying water rooms, cameras, braai places and two small pools for children and toddlers.

Department spokesperson, Andile Nduna, has said the pool is meant to develop swimming as a sport in the Mnquma area and also help those who want to be great swimmers in the near future.

Nduna said schools around Butterworth and surrounding areas are expected to form swimming teams that will practise using the pool.

Last week, department officials visited the Butterworth swimming pool to do an inspection to see whether it is ready to be handed over to Mnquma learners. They gave the

swimming pool their stamp of approval.

They have asked the Amathole District Municipality to fill the pool with water so

that they can do the handover as soon as possible.

Sons suspected of murdering mother’s boyfriend SIMBONGILE MDLEDLE TWO brothers, aged 21 and 30, appeared in the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court last week, facing charges of murder following a recent incident where the duo allegedly attacked and killed their mother’s boyfriend.

According to the police report, the two men were arrested in Zinduneni Adminis-

trative Area, Ntsindini locality in Ngqeleni, following the murder of a 68-year-old man.

The attack took place at 05:30 last week and the victim’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood not far from the girlfriend’s home. During their first court appearance, the two were not asked to plead and their case was postponed to this week for bail application.

Police spokesperson in the Mthatha clus-

ter, Dineo Koena, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased was visiting his girlfriend last week, when he was chased by the girlfriend’s two sons, who allegedly stabbed and killed him.

Koena said the deceased sustained multiple wounds to his upper body.

She said the brothers were arrested immediately after the incident. ) In an unrelated incident, the police were

in a massive hunt for two unknown suspects who robbed the KFC at Tsolo last weekend.

Two armed suspects entered the store and demanded money from the tills at gunpoint.

Koena said they fled with an undisclosed amount of money and no shooting occurred.

Dineo said, at the time of going to print, no arrests had yet been made and the police urged anyone with information to come forward or contact their nearest police station.

Congregation builds house for widow BABALWA NDLANYA THE congregants of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) at Lower Mjika Locality in Tsolo have changed the life of a woman by building a two-roomed house for her.

Both rooms are well furnished. Pastor Billy Mantanga, from AFM, said they decided to do something in order to change the life of Lathitha Ntsele.

“After we saw the condition of the shack, we decided to do something because it was not in a good condition at all.

“It was the first time we built a house for someone, even though we always involve ourselves in helping the community,” said Mantanga.

He added that in his congregation, they also hand over food parcels and school uni-

forms because they have a welfare desk.

“Among other things we also host awareness (activities) with the aim of teaching people about HIV. We are not doing this with the aim of helping our church to benefit, but rather to ensure that it is the community that is benefiting.”

Telling her story, Ntsele said she was about to live in her shack when she was told by the church that they would build her a house instead.

“This happened after my husband passed away. Last year the situation was very bad because I was not going to afford to build my own house. I am only on a social grant for my two kids so it was not going to be enough for me to build a house.

“In this shack I was going to live with my five children and my brother, but God saved us,” said Ntsele.

Five suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms BABALWA NDLANYA TECHNICAL Response Team (TRT) Unit members from Port Elizabeth arrested five suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms, namely two pistols with 10 rounds of ammunitions.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects, namely four men aged 21, 26, 27, 31 and a woman, 25, were arrested along N2 road near Bika Township in Butterworth.

“They were driving towards Butterworth

when they were pulled off the road. One of the firearms had eight rounds of ammunition whilst the other firearm had two rounds of ammunition,” said Manatha.

He said the firearms would be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in the

commission of crime.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey, commended the TRT Unit for their swift action and good work as they had possibly prevented further crimes with the arrests.

King, Minister to discuss reopening Butterworth factories ANELE RAZIYA AMAXHOSA King Mpendulo Aa Zwelonke Sigcawu is planning to fight the high rate of unemployment in the former Transkei region.

King Sigcawu is preparing to meet Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, where he is hoping to have discussions on the issue of the re--opening Butterworth’s factories.

hali, who is part of the king’s council.

Tyhali, speaking about King Zwelonke’s programmes at Godidi Senior Primary School, said the king would be having a meeting with Davies before the end of this month, where they will discuss the Butterworth factories.

“Next week King Sigcawu is expected to have a meeting with Davies where they will discus the possibilities of re-opening factories that are situated in Butterworth” said Tyhali

He was speaking to Godidi villagers at Centane where the King Zwelonke Foundation was donating wheelchairs, school shoes and bags on Friday.

He said the king’s aim was to minimise the number of youth who go to other provinces looking for job opportunities.

Last year, the then MEC of rural development and agrarian reform, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, promised that the Eastern Cape government was working on a plan to reopen the

Thanda Milling factory for farmers so that they could store their maize.

Qoboshiyane visited the factory to see the status of Thanda Milling and indicated he was impressed with everything he saw.

But Thanda Milling is not the only factory in Butterworth that had closed.

During the 1990s, many factories in the Butterworth area, that created a lot of job opportunities and boosted the economy earlier, had closed down.

Call for unity in Mthatha taxi feud

THE bus industry has called on associations involved in the taxi feud in Mthatha to calm down and come to the table with the government to resolve the insurgence of taxi violence which has been entrenched in the industry since 2016.

The bus industry made this appeal during a stakeholder dialogue held at Mthatha Airport hangars.

The aim of the dialogue was for the government and stakeholders involved to get a sense of what people had to say about the situation in Mthatha, which had resulted in major disruptions of public transport and left many people stranded because of the closure of ranks.

Since the taxi violence started, more than 60 people have lost their lives while many others have been injured.

The ranks were closed due to the con-

tinued taxi violence between Uncedo and Bata over routes.

The bus industry believed that if the associations involved could unite, the move could open doors for them to get some benefits from the government to develop the industry. Bus Industry PRO, Sikhonza Nxasana, said that unity in the taxi industry would be a major achievement.

“The bus industry would have contributed to that achievement because there are a lot of plans in place.

“But the ongoing violence hindered everything,” said Sikhonza.

He said if Uncedo and Bata could form one association it would bring unity between the two rivals.

In their response, the two associations said that it wouldn’t be easy and would require a lot of engagement because you cannot merge the two associations out of the blue.

Police pilot encourages people to reach for their dreams ZAVELA MAKWABE “STAND up for your future because no one else will and never be afraid to take risks.”

This is the message Constable Qondile Dyeke, a new South African Police Service (SAPS) pilot, had for everyone in attendance at the handover of certificates at the SAPS Provincial Headquarters on Friday, June 1.

Dyeke (32) grew up in rural Ncanabana Village, Engcobo, where he passed his matric at Nyanga High School in 2003.

He joined the SAPS in 2007 as a reservist, but because of his determination and hard work, he graduated at the Oudtshoorn SAPS Academy in 2009.

“I used to enjoy going to SAPS events even before joining the police force, especially seeing the helicopters hovering above, but never did I dream that I would one day become a police officer, let alone fly a helicopter,” an elated Dyeke said.

His dream to become a pilot was ignited in January 2014 when he watched a broadcast of When Duty Calls where the then Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mbekela, invited young, qualifying members to become pilots.

His persistence landed him at Bulembu Airwing in the Eastern Cape, working as an airborne law enforcement officer.

On August 25 last year, he got a birthday surprise when he received a call from the Free State Province advising him to resume

duties at Bloemfontein Airwing on service arrangement.

A month later he started an aviation course at Westline Air School in Bloemfontein.

Dyeke told King William’s Town Express that working and studying at the same time was not easy at all.

“There were times when I would get very little sleep and sometimes no sleep at all.

“I remember times when I was ready to throw in the towel, but Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga’s motivational words would keep me going.

“She would say ‘Remember where you come from’. Those five words carried a lot of weight and they reminded me that I do not want to go back there without having achieved my goal,” he said.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the roles played by the MEC for transport and SAPS management towards fulfilment of his dream.

“I am very thankful to the MEC for Transport (Weziwe Tikana).

I also wish to extend a word of gratitude to the Eastern Cape SAPS management, especially the provincial commissioner who paved a way for me, and motivated me throughout. I still recall her voice during the difficult days of the studies, when she reminded me of where I am coming from,” he praised.

The certificate handover ceremony was held at the SAPS provincial headquarters and more than 200 young constables who received awards and were acknowledged by the Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi, who said the day marked a historic moment, especially because it was the first day of Youth Month.

WHILE residents in other areas receive water directly from their taps, it seems as if 32 wards which fall under the Nyandeni Local Municipality are still struggling since their taps ran dry.

This was revealed by the chairperson of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) from Nyandeni Local Municipality, Councillor Mfundiso Mkrokrelwa.

He said the taps were installed in 2013 but were still not working.

“What is worse is that there were 62 water tanks, which were supplied by the OR Tambo District Municipality, but went missing.

“When I asked about them (water tanks) in the council meeting I did not get a clear answer,” said Mkrokrelwa.

He added that the situation would get worse because now that it is winter, there would probably be a drought, meaning that people would struggle a lot as they would not be able to get water from the rivers.

He said they were informed about the new tanks that were to be delivered again to this municipality but they were afraid because, they might go missing again.

One of the community members, Nosizwe Mlandelwa, said she used to fetch water from the tap next to her home but as from last year, the water stopped coming out.

“Now we depend on our children, who fetch water from their schools so that we can be able to cook,” said Mlandelwa.

Express could not manage to get comment from the Nyandeni Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Mesuli Ngqondwana, because his phone was not answered on any of the several occasions that he was phoned by the reporter.

SAPS members praised for hard work REPORTER BUTTERWORTH Cluster Commander Brigadier Trevor Mey handed commendation certificates to members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) from Port Elizabeth, members of POP from Komani (formerly known as Queenstown) and Butterworth CIG members.

The members were commended for recovering 14 unlicensed firearms and ammunition around the Butterworth Cluster.

The cluster commander praised the members as those firearms could have been used in the commission of crime.

“Armed robberies, house robberies and murders have been prevented,” said Brigadier Mey.

Residents demand reopening of Mamela taxi rank

SIMBONGILE MDLEDLE THE battle over the closure of the Mamela taxi rank has taken another turn as residents made it clear that there was no way that the taxi rank could remain closed permanently.

The Mamela taxi rank was among the five remaining taxi ranks which have not yet been reopened by the government after the indefinite closure of all Mthatha taxi ranks

by Police Minister Bheki Cele, due to taxi violence.

The issue of the closure of this rank caused a stir during a meeting which was held at Mthatha Airport last Thursday, as the community raised their anger over the closure.

The meeting was held between the MEC for Transport, Weziwe Tikana, and representatives of the two rival taxi associations ,Uncedo and Bata, King Sabatha Dalindyebo Local Municipality, as well as other stakeholders and the community at large.

The residents from the affected areas and their leadership had made it clear that they opposed the closure.

The Mamela taxi rank is situated in the western part of Mthatha, next to PRD Building, right in front of KSD Fire Brigade.

After engagement with stakeholders, the government only reopened five out of 10 ranks in Mthatha, something which has angered many commuters.

The meeting became chaotic when Tikana

said it would not be easy to reopen the Mamela rank because the KSD municipality had a plan to build a mall in that space.

At that point, people started to interrupt the MEC’s address and others marched out of the meeting.

They vowed not to allow KSD to open a mall where that rank was situated.

Community leader Thembinkosi Butshingi said Mthatha could not operate with only five ranks because of the high population.

He said the Mamela rank was serving the largest part of Mthatha, so there was no way that the rank could be closed permanently.

“The MEC must not compare Mthatha with Johannesburg.

“Here we’ve got big locations, let alone

Mthatha West, which comprises many areas,” Butshingi said. “And all these areas depend on that rank.

“We demand that our 10 ranks be reopened in Mthatha with immediate effect.”

In her response, Tikana said they were not against the reopening of Mthatha taxi ranks, but the way forward regarding the re-opening of the other ranks depended on the engagements between the government, associations, task teams and the municipality.

Meanwhile, KSD Municipal spokesperson Sonwabo Mampoza confirmed that the municipality has a plan in place to develop that part of Mthatha.

Mampoza did, however, not give details on the type of development that was planned.

Traditional leader up for ECTA award

Chief Dalisizwe Dudumayo has been nominated for two Eastern Cape Traditional Awards.

A TRADITIONAL leader from Gqubeni locality in Mqanduli, who had set his focus on changing the lives of his community members and chasing away poverty, has been nominated for the Eastern Cape Traditional Awards 2018 (ECTA).

He was nominated as the best traditional leader in governance, as well as the best traditional leader of the year.

The awards ceremony will take place at Hemingways in East London on June 23.

Talking to Express, Chief Dalisizwe Dudumayo said these awards were the initiative of the Heritage Foundation.

“I am doing a lot of this in my area to ensure that I assist my community members. Even now I am busy preparing for an annual tournament to be held at Gqubeni sports ground on

Friday and Saturday. This tournament is something I have been doing for many years,” said Dudumayo.

He added that he also had heritage programmes which reminded people about where they come from.

He is also focusing on farming co-ops.

Dudumayo revealed that he was also supporting government institutions to embark on clean governance initiatives.

“I donate shoes and soccer kit from my own pocket because I want to see all children going to school. For instance I donated soccer kit to Mncwasa Junior Secondary School and for Nothintwa Ladies’ Club at Ngcwanguba Administrative Area.”

Mthatha-born artist listed in top 40 emerging creatives SIMBONGILE MDLEDLE THANDAZANI Nofingxana, a design student, born in Emaqhinebeni in Viegisville, Mthatha, was recently selected as part of the top 40 emerging creatives class of 2018, which usually has thousands of applications from every design field you can think of.

The former St John’s College learner, who is currently studying his final year of a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree in Textile Design at Nelson Mandela University, was selected for his work during the Design Indaba, a platform created by the national Department of Arts and Culture and other organisations recently in Port Elizabeth.

The top 40 emerging creatives programme has been initiated by the Indaba to let the young South African designers get exposure to the global market, as there are consumers all over the globe who get to see the art and design from South Africa.

Speaking to Express, an excited Nofingxana said he was chosen among graphic designers, fashion designers, interior and furniture designers. “It was an amazing five-day experience as I have learnt so much from other creatives and made friends with so many people.

“When I first got the news, I was so excited because I’ve always wanted to be a part of the emerging creatives since my first year of varsity and two years later, that dream came through,” said Nofingxana, who is dreaming of one day conquering the world with his designs. ; This is artistic work from Mthatha-born Thandazani Nofingxana, which was shown during the creative art festival in Port Elizabeth.

Tsolo model picked for Miss Cosmopolitan World SIMBONGILE MDLEDLE A MODEL from the rural town of Tsolo, which falls under Mhlontlo Local Municipality, will be representing South Africa in the Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in October this year.

Babalwa Nomatshaka, a public management graduate from Walter Sisulu University, is no newcomer to pageants, having been ranked first princess at Miss Heritage South Africa 2018, then winning Miss Africa Beauty Queen South Africa 2018, and now she is going to Miss Cosmopolitan World 2018.

On arrival, Express met a number of learners and two lecturers busy debating how the technology can improve the economy of Mthatha.

Speaking to Express, Borole expressed his gratitude to the learners for their hard work and performance.

“They are very intelligent, hard working and committed students, I am very impressed with their performance so far, although for some of them it is the first time to experience or come across this kind of website technology,” said Borole.

Borole and Gift Khangamwa are some of the lecturers deployed by the Melisizwe company in Mthatha to conduct the three-month IT workshop, aiming to equip individuals from underprivileged schools and communities with knowledge of the basics of IT, namely Java, programming language, coding fundamentals, design, functionality and data structure.

Borole said he rated their learners’ performance at 8 of 10 marks.

Africa Rising Foundation was founded by Ndaba and Kweku Mandela in 2009, aiming to keep the Madiba legacy alive, focusing on community development and youth empowerment.

Young entrepreneurs benefit from business management training ANELE RAZIYA THE Mnquma Local Municipality, in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), hosted a five-day business management training course for youth-owned co-operatives from various areas across Mnquma.

The topics covered as part of the entrepreneurship development programme included financial literacy, business planning, marketing plans, costing of goods and services, and required funding for co-ops and private business.

More than 150 members of various co-operatives have gained knowledge from the training course which was held at the Msobomvu Community Hall last week.

Mnquma Local Municipality spokesperson Loyiso Mpalantshane said the programme was co-ordinated through the municipality’s special programmes unit, which also offers support to the youth, physically disabled and elderly.

“This is what we mean by ‘youth empowerment’.

“We equip these groups with critical skills that will make them independent and be able to run self-sustainable businesses, which in turn helps to reduce the high unemployment rate facing young people,” said Mpalantshane.

“Every year we fund a select number of cooperatives from Mnquma or help to source funding from various provincial government institutions.

“We also call on other young people or business or co-operatives to come forward and register on our database and take advantage of these training opportunities,” said Mpalantshane.

NYDA facilitator, Vuyisa Mahobe, said they always worked hand-in-hand with municipalities to empower the youth with skills so that they could start their projects in their areas.

Mahobe said they were committed to help

youth to gain different skills so that they could reduced the high unemployment rate by initiating their projects.

Girls Construction owner Ntombifuthi Sakhi added that training would help them to grow their businesses and also give them fresh ideas.

She said the government should continue to empower the youth with skills so that they could start their projects.

NPO makes effort to equip youth SIMBONGILE MDLEDLE A NON-PROFIT organisation called Transition from High School to University, which is based in Mhlontlo (Tsolo and Qumbu) will in this Youth Month (June) embark on a mission to equip the rural youth who lack knowledge in terms of their careers to tertiary level.

The organisation is intent on conducting its mission throughout Mhlontlo and the surrounding areas.

The NPO, which comprises students from different tertiary institutions in the area, and their career expo, is expected to take place towards the end of the month in Tsolo.

The secretary general of the NPO, Siyolise Yoyo, said they aimed to provide or help their community through education in certain aspects such as career advice, applications and bursary application forms, study methods, mentorship programmes and any other relevant information about education based issues which will help learners to be well

equipped. He said they would bring their smartphones and laptops to the expo so that they can share information with those who have not studied further after they finished their matric exams.

“Now we are busy asking for sponsors and donations so that we would have the data that will be used by the attendees during the process.

“On the day we also aim and plan on setting up an online application camp at which we will help learners to apply online to any higher institution in our country. Since our community does not have such resources and information, we are bringing change and lighting the path for every learner in our community,” he said.

He stressed that by doing so they will nurture their youth and secure their future to be bright.

He urged the communities from both towns to grab this opportunity with both hands and witness the youth develop education in the rural areas.

THE state-of-the art development of Upper Corana Primary School in Misty Mount, Libode by Bigtime Strategic Group, a Pretoria-based company, is in progress.

In this initiative, Bigtime is in partnership with the Ubuntu Foundation, but Bigtime Strategic Group is wholly funding the project.

The company is going to construct six new blocks at the school, the teachersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; staff room and the principalâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s office in the next eight weeks.

The officially opening is expected to take place at the beginning of August.

The school was in a poor condition, with learners using roofless toilets and lessons taking place in dilapidated classrooms with no chalkboards until the good Samaritan, group chief executive officer Justice Maphosa, took a decision to adopt the school in 2016.

Maphosa said he was really touched by the situation when he was visited the school, especially as he was also from a poor background. He started with the donation of full school uniforms to the needy children in the school. â&#x20AC;&#x153;When we adopted the school, there were just over 130 learners and since then numbers have tripled and theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re over 300 as we speak. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The current capacity of the school is 350 and after the construction of the six new blocks it will be 700. We anticipate numbers will grow over the next couple of years hence the project. We are going to renovate the current classrooms. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The windows are broken, roofs are leaking, the floors are cracked, and some of the doors are not there. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We are also bringing in a computer room, fencing the entire school, as well as connecting running water and electricity,â&#x20AC;? he said.

The school principal, Nomandla Ndamase, who started working at the school in 2005 as a post level 1 teacher and became principal in 2013, said it was truly amazing that someone from so far away would see fit to come and uplift their school in this manner. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I wanted to resign because of the situation but now I will stay to see all this come to fruition. Bigtimeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s employing of four teachers has made a positive impact. We are happy Bigtime have made a promise to hire more teachers. This will certainly become the school of choice in our region,â&#x20AC;? she said.

This year, the Polo Vivo has already sold over 11 000 units since the launch of the second-generation model in February.

Polo Vivo Maxx is offered only in the hatch body version and boasts a number of exterior and interior features.

EC Bees’ striker buzzes to MEC encourages municipalities greener pastures in NFD to host annual mayor’s cup ELETHU MTIKI THE move of Eastern Cape Bees’ prolific striker, Bongani Chikila, to the National First Division (NFD) will boost the team’s profile.

Njedu, described Chikila’s departure to an NFD side, Royal Eagles in KwaZulu-Natal.

The King William’s Town-based ABC Motsepe League side confirmed Chikila’s departure at the weekend.

Njedu told King William’s Town Express that they were excited by the striker’s move to greener pastures, especially since the club had failed to gain promotion to the NFD in the last three seasons.

“That’s what we’ve always wanted as the club. We told ourselves that if the club doesn’t make it through to the NFD, at least our players must go and play for the NFD teams,” said Njedu.

“We’re really excited to see him play for Royal Eagles. This means a lot for the team’s profile.

People will always remember that he came from Eastern Cape Bees.”

Known as Jaguar or Manz’ashushu (hot water), the Bloemfontein-born lethal striker joined Bees at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, scoring a whopping 25 goals to become the league’s top goal scorer and helping Bees to win the league title.

He started the last season in the colours of Ace FC in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League.

His lack of game time saw him return to Bees earlier this year for his second spell at the club.

Many will remember him for the goal he scored against giants Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup last 32 encounter at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane in April last year, a game they lost 3-1.

He proved himself again against top-flight teams when he found the back of the net in their 2-1 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup last 16 clash.

Though they will miss his ability to find the back of the net, Njedu said they have capable players who will fill Chikila’s shoes in their quest to win the league next season.

Chikila said he was grateful for the tremendous support he received from the people of the Eastern Cape during his stay at Bees.

“Thanks to all the EC Bees family and the whole Eastern Cape for their support,” said the former Jomo Cosmos player in a post on Facebook.

Chippa vow to win in next three seasons ELETHU MTIKI IN an effort to satisfy their diehard supporters, Chippa United chief operations officer Lukhanyo Mzinzi says the club’s mandate in the next three seasons is clear – it’s to have silverware in the cabinet.

Known for their firing and hiring of the coaches, the question is – is Dan “Dance” Malesela, who recently reunited with the club as their head coach, the man who will steer the Chilli Boys to their first trophy in the topflight football?

Or will he still be around in the next three seasons? Only time will tell.

“Dan Dance is not the only coach that we interviewed.

But we were quite impressed about his submissions to the club and his analysis.

“We think that he is our coach going forward,” Mzinzi told SAFM. A former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns captain, Malesela is the only coach at Chippa United who managed to lead the club to the cup semi-finals when they lost

to Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals in 2016.

Interesting enough, the three-year mandate starts at the time when he is back at the helm. Mzinzi believes that Malesela, at this stage, has the right players to start building towards their mandate.

“If you look at the type of signings and the type of players that we’re looking for; you can see that we’re quite a young squad that is building. And the type of players that we’re signing is players who are ambitious.

“We think that in the nxt three years we should lift something. The coach is still building his philosophy.

“He’s picking up from where he left off.

“Luckily we never lost that identity (good brand of football) even when other coaches came, we still played good football.

“We think that in the next three years we’ll be having something in the cabinet,” added Mzinzi.

During this off season, the Port Elizabethbased side has already signed striker Gift Motupa from Orlando Pirates and experienced defender, Thabo Nthete, from Mamelodi Sundowns.

ANELE RAZIYA THE Eastern Cape MEC for Sport, Bulelwa Tunyiswa, has encouraged all municipalities to organise a mayor’s cup competition each and every year so that these could play a role in developing sport.

Tunyiswa believes that the mayor’s cup events are playing a vital role in keeping the youth away from drugs and alcohol.

Speaking during the King Hintsa commemoration event which was held at Mission Village in Butterworth on Thursday, she said her department was encouraging school sport and mayor’s cup events throughout the province.

“Mayor’s cup events are promoting social cohesion and they also promote discipline in our youth because they took young people away from drugs and criminal activities,” said Tunyiswa.

She also indicated that the department had agreed in principle with schools to revive school sports events.

Tunyiswa revealed that there was conditional grant money that had been allocated by the department to assist municipalities to build sport grounds and the Mbhashe Local Municipality is among them.

She also mentioned that in the coming weeks, the department would be handing

Clubs to host Youth Day tournament ANELE RAZIYA REAL Aces Football Club and Masimanyaneni Youth Netball Club from R1 Mgomanzi Village in Butterworth will jointly host a tournament on Saturday.

The aim of the tournament is to commemorate Youth Day in style and also develop sport in the rural areas.

Tournament organiser, Sivuyile Foca, has said the tournament would include both soccer and netball and every team in the area is invited to join the event.

It will be the first time Real Aces and Masimanyaneni Youth Netball Club have organised this kind of tournament but they aim to host an impressive event with great prizes.

In both netball and soccer the first prizes will be a trophy plus undisclosed amount of money and also gold medals for the champions while runners-up will go home with silver medals.

Other prizes will be determined by the teams who take part in the tournament.

The joining fee is R200.

The tournament draw is expected to be held on Friday and the next day games will begin at Rhoxeni Location R1 Mogomanzi grounds.
