GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP AND THE

If I asked you to name the biggest problems in this world, what would be the first thing to pop into your mind? Whatever you named, chances are it is mentioned, one way or another, in the Sustainable Development Goals. Seventeen goals focused on what we needed to fix in order to prevent the annihilation of mankind and improve our future. From „No poverty” to „Peace, justice and strong institutions“ – they talk about some of the most important matters everybody should know about and which should be carried out on our local level. So, how much do you know about them? In the project „Get up and goals!“ We - the first grade grammar school students, studied these topics and presented it to one another. We were assigned a goal and the preparations began. The presentations were organized consecutively, so when it

was your turn to present to the class, you would soon feel overcome with anxiety. Researching the topics beyond what we had already known was an interesting experience. Finding out about these goals, seeing all the ways we can help people and realising we never knew any of these methods existed before, made quite a big impact on a lot of students. After introducing our classmates with all the goals came the actual realization of the project. We heard all the ways we can help and what we needed to do, but now it was our turn to come up with our ways to help. We thought of different ideas to help on local levels and, once we figured out what we wanted to do, we shared it with other

teams from Italy, Ireland and Turkey that were in on the project with us on eTwinning. eTwinning is a platform where you can communicate, collaborate, develop projects and share ideas. On the platform’s forum, we were able to discuss why we chose our goal and what we wanted to do about it.

Name of the project:

Get up and Goals! Participants: The students from class 1.a and class 1.b, prof. Renata Mihaljević, partners from Italy, Ireland and Turkey. Duration of the project: 1/10/2019 – 30/4/2020
