Hoffner trial scheduled for Wednesday Defense attorney attempted to have charges dismissed

Embattled Minnesota State University, Mankato football coach Todd Hoffner could be one step closer to returning to his post. Hoffner’s attorney, Criminal Law Specialist Jim Fleming, attempted to have the charges against his client dismissed last week, in advance of a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31. Fleming continues to argue that allegedly incriminating videos found on Hoffner’s cell phone do not constitute child pornography, citing investigations
conducted by local law enforcement. Representatives from three separate colleges where Hoffner, 46, previously coached, the University of South Dakota, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, reported finding no evidence in their own records that would implicate Hoffner. “There is absolutely no evidence Todd Hoffner intended the videos to be or knew or had reason to know the videos would be al-

‘Middle Eastern Night’ educates and entertains
International Student Organization brings Middle Eastern cultures together

While most people were out celebrating Halloween Saturday night, at Minnesota State University, Mankato a sold out Middle Eastern night was taking place. A variety of people of different ages and ethnicities filled the Centennial Student Union and enjoyed a night of celebration with dances and Arabian food. The International Student Organization, the
Elizabeth & Wynn Kearney International Center and the Department of Student Activities sponsored Middle Eastern Night. The event started in the basement of the CSU with a variety of activities, including Arabic calligraphy and henna tattooing. Henna is a dye that women typically wear on their hands and feet during weddings or other celebrations. The dye is drawn onto women in intricate Middle Eastern designs. Authentic Arabian food

was served downstairs and included a selection of different dishes. The food ranged from Hummus to roasted Tandoori chicken and was truly authentic. MSU student Ayato Inagaki was one of many students enjoying Middle Eastern night. He explained that the food served was different from what most people are used to eating in the United States and that Middle
