Homecoming comes to MNSU MICHAEL MCSHANE STAFF WRITER It’s a good time to be a Mav! Homecoming Week is upon us now and it has Minnesota State students looking through a laundry list of events and festivities to look through and enjoy. The six-day long series of events started on Monday with Mavs on the Mall which included a dunk tank and questionnaire panel for prospective homecoming royalty to celebrate the beginning of Homecoming Week. Monday’s bonfire and fireworks celebration event which was scheduled for 8 p.m. was canceled due to weather. The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “Land of 120,000 Mavericks” and set

to be one of MNSU’s biggest ever. Other scheduled events for the week is the Home-

coming Blood Drive hosted by the American Red Cross held in the CSU Ballroom and dodgeball which will be held

at 7 p.m. inside Myers Field House. Students will also be able to enjoy a food eating contest on Wednesday.

Students aren’t the only ones enjoying Homecoming Week as teachers and staff will have their own fun with an office decorating contest. The winner for the contest will receive a $200 gift card to Pub 500. By the end of the week is when the real headlining events begin. The first is the Homecoming Concert with hip-hop artist, KYLE, set to blow Myer Field House’s roof off. The concert, presented by the Minnesota State – Mankato Student Events Team, will be from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Parking for the event will be at Lot 20. It isn’t until Oct. 5 however when a crescendo of

The event held in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom, opened its doors at 5:15 p.m. Just before the event officially started there was a delay as organizers were waiting on a late arrival to show up. While students and visitors waited in the lobby, food and water was available. Also available were trifold pamphlets with information on Saudi Arabia and its founding. One of the pamphlets detailed the first king of Sau-

The Office of the President released the 2019 Annual Security and Fire Safety report on Monday, with recorded incidents that show students must adhere to the university’s safety tips. Minnesota State University, Mankato fulfilled its obligation under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act when the 2019 annual security report was released. The act, enacted by the 101st Congress, demands that a university like MNSU disclose information about crimes on and near campus. “Campus safety is an important consideration for all members of the University community,” President Rich-

safe and comfortable learning environment by systematically reviewing its services, facilities and policies relating to safety.” The report contains data for three years — 2016 to 2018 — on crimes. Four incidents of rape were recorded in on-campus student housing facilities in 2018. Two incidents of fondling were also reported. MNSU continues to educate students and employees on ways to prevent sexually related crimes. Under the guidance of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX, new students and are required to complete an online
