ERMELO: Die Ermelo-provinsiale hospitaal het op 17 Junie 'n amptelike oorhandiging van oogsorgtoerusting in ontvangs geneem. Mev. Sasekani Manzini, LUR van die departement van gesondheid in Mpumalanga, is vergesel deur Mev. Audrey Maleka, 'n lid van die Nasionale Raad van Provinsies en gesondheidsamptenare. Mev. Manzini het gesê “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” kon met behulp van sy liefdadigheidsafdeling, 'n organisasie sonder winsbejag, optometriese en katarak-chirurgiese toerusting aan die Gert Sibande-distrikshospitaal skenk . Raadslid Julia Basson, lid van die burgemeesterskomitee vir gemeenskapsdienste van die Msukaligwamunisipaliteit, was die programdirekteur van die dag. Mnr Thabiso Sehloho, president van die kerk, het in sy toespraak gesê dat hulle die vennootskap waardeer wat die kerk met die departement aangegaan het. Mev Manzini het die skenking van die toerusting ontvang en verwelkom namens Mev. Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, premier van Mpumalanga. Volgens Mev. Manzini is hierdie skenkings gemaak met die uitsluitlike doel om die departement te help om dienste aan siggestremdes te verbeter en uit te brei. Man, 29, dies after alleged cop beating ERMELO: Jeppe police officers are under investigation over the alleged beating of a man in front of his brother and girlfriend. The 29-year-old was arrested for allegedly being in possession of drugs and resisting arrest, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said. After the alleged beating on June 12, he was not charged. On his release from the police station, his girlfriend took him to hospital. He was later transferred to a hospital in Mpumalanga, where he died. Ipid's Gauteng team on Thursday last week, attended the post mortem at the Ermelo provincial hospital here in Mpumalanga. The police watchdog said the man's brother said he had video footage of the police officers beating his brother and some photos as well. He and the girlfriend also took down the registration number of the vehicle, which Ipid said has been confirmed to be from the Jeppe tracing team. A case against the police officers for the alleged assault was not opened, said Ipid, because when the girlfriend went to lodge the complaint, she was met by one of the officers allegedly involved in the assault. He allegedly took the J88 form (medico-legal examination by a doctor) from her, destroyed it and chased her away, said Ipid. Its investigation continues.

21 Illegal miners arrested

MPUMALANGA: A group of 21 illegal miners was arrested in a sting operation by police in Mpumalanga. Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, police spokesperson said the police in Mpumalanga have arrested the 21 suspected illegal miners. “The suspects are facing charges of possession of gold-bearing material as well as contravening of the Immigration Act,” Hlathi said this follows a sting operation conducted between Wednesday, 23 June 2021 and Sunday, 27 June 2021. “Operations took place at Dientjie, Pilgrim’s Rest, and Sabie to defuse the lethal activities carried out by suspects who put their lives as well as of others at risk as they continue mining illegally.” He said during these operations, some suspects were found to be minors whilst others… (continue on page 9)

efforts to bring these illegal acts to an end and also send out a stern warning to those who keep on stealing minerals as well as vandalizing infrastructure in the process. “At some stage, when police enforce the law in those old and disused mines, they are often met with attacks from the suspects.” The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Thulani Phahla, has welcomed the arrests made whilst strongly condemning this behavior which has been noticed throughout the province. “These acts, not only do they cripple our economy but also place the lives of these individuals at risk. “It is also shocking to learn that young children from neighbouring countries have also been sourced to participate in these illegal activities. This is worrying hence we will never tolerate such lawlessness to prevail neither will we stop such operations, “said General Phahla.

IEC: We don't yet know if upcoming local elections will be free and fair The IEC made the submission at the inquiry into ensuring free and fair local government elections during COVID-19. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Monday said it had not yet made a decision on whether the local government elections would be free and fair. Ons gebreekte woorde strooi ons in die wind en plant so die saadjies weer voort waar dit gunstigheid vind in ‘n ander se mond. Sommer ‘n mens gemaakte ding. Ons kan kla, skop en kerm of ons kan oudag stoepstories versamel waarmee jy jou dae kan vul. Die lekkertes van onthou en die voorreg van keuses! Dit laat my dink aan die gesegde: “Some men die and have never lived!” Lees dit weer en dink gerus oor die waarheid. Is ons nie so besig om te kla en te kerm dat die lewe ons eintlik verby gaan nie? Ons verleer om die humor in situasies raak te sien. Ons dink ‘n ideale lewe is waar alles net voor die wind gaan. Hoe wonderlik vervelig sou dit nie wees nie? Ek persoonlik leef vir die ‘Aha’ oomblikke van die lewe. Die waar jy ‘n nuwe ontdekking maak van iets nuuts wat jy nooit geweet het bestaan nie of nòg beter as jy ‘n nuwe faset ontdek van jou menswees. As groei plaasvind! Dit is wat met elkeen van ons gebeur elke dag oral. Ons groei. Ons word wyser en leer uit ons foute. Nee, die lewe is ‘n feesmaal! As jy bang en verskrik, bekommerd en angstig, bevrees en onrustig is, is die rede dalk omdat jy twyfel aan die Here se beloftes van voorsiening en beskerming en hulp, omdat die geloof en hoop in jou hart opgeraak het of doodgedruk is deur jou vrees. Aan die ander kant: as daar twyfel in jou hart is en jy nie meer die Here kan raaksien in jou lewe nie, as jy nie glo dat Hy in beheer is en alles ten goede sal laat meewerk nie, gaan bekommernis en vrees jou gedagtes oorheers en jou angstigheid buite beheer raak. As Jesus vandag langs jou kom staan en vra: “waarom is jy so verskrik?”, dan mag en kan en moet jy al jou bekommernisse by Hom kom afpak. “Werp al julle bekommernisse op Hom, want Hy sorg vir julle.” (1 Pet. 5:7) As Jesus vandag langs jou kom staan en vra: “Waarom is jy so verskrik?”, hoor dan terselfdertyd sy oop uitnodiging wat sê: “Kom na My toe, almal wat uitgeput en oorlaai is en Ek sal julle rus gee.” (Matt. 11:28) As Jesus vandag langs jou kom staan en vra: “Waarom kom daar twyfel in jou hart?”, hoop ek jy sal die twyfel kan uitdoof en met geloof en vertroue sê: “Die Here is my helper, ek ken geen vrees nie.” (Heb. 13:6) ~ Wilna Botha

What is Epilepsy? Epilepsy is a chronic disorder, the hallmark of which is recurrent, unprovoked seizures. Many people with epilepsy have more than one type of seizure and may have other symptoms of neurological problems as well. Sometimes EEG testing, clinical history, family history and outlook are similar among a group of people with epilepsy. In these situations, their condition can be defined as a specific epilepsy syndrome. The human brain is the source of human epilepsy. Although the symptoms of a seizure may affect any
part of the body, the electrical events that produce the symptoms occur in the brain. The location of that event, how it spreads and how much of the brain is affected, and how long it lasts all have profound effects. These factors determine the character of a seizure and its impact on the individual. Having seizures and epilepsy also can also affect one's safety, relationships, work, driving and so much more. How epilepsy is perceived or how people are treated (stigma) often is a bigger problem than the seizures. A person is
diagnosed with epilepsy if they have one or more seizures that were not caused by some known and reversible medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar. The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but often the cause is completely unknown. The word "epilepsy" does not indicate anything about the cause of the person's seizures or their severity. Chicken Normandy INGREDIENTS: 200g bacon bits 1 pack salt 1 pack pepper 1 onion, thinly sliced 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped 3 sprigs thyme 15ml flour 250ml cider 150ml chicken stock 150ml cream 4 golden delicious apples, sliced into wedges 15ml olive oil roasted potatoes steamed tender-stem broccoli

Turn the heat up to medium high and add the chicken skin-side down, browning it in the bacon fat. Remove from the skillet. Turn the skillet down to low and add the onions, garlic and thyme. Tannie te skaam om te deel dat sy met 'n slap (of stywe?) riem gevang is weier om enige iets verder te doen as om 'n nuwe sitkamerstel en TV by Lewis te loop staan koop... Ergste die hele familie is in op dit wat Jannie doen! Klitsie kan nie help om te wonder waar Jannie nou is nie en wie meubels moet gaan koop nie...
