Winning the GNAC regular season title for the second straight year and reaching the conference tournament for the third time in the last four years, MSUB’s baseball team broke a school record for wins with 30 in its best season to date. BILLINGS, Mont. – Remarkable runs of late-season victories have carried the Montana State University Billings baseball team in each of the last two seasons, as the Yellowjackets set a new benchmark for wins for a second straight season with 30 in 2016. The Yellowjackets won seven straight games and 11 of 12 to end the regular season as co-champion with Northwest Nazarene University, as both teams finished the year 23-15 in league play. MSUB reached 30 overall wins for the first time since baseball was reintroduced prior to the 2006 season, setting a record for winning percentage at .600 with a record of 30-20. Winning 20 of their final 25 games to post their first-ever winning season and conference title in 2015, the Yellowjackets built on the success and had an even better season behind sixth-year head coach Rob Bishop. “We met a lot of milestones with our first 30-win season, and winning back-to-back regular-season titles,” said Bishop, who upped his record to 135-153 (.469) in his tenure at MSUB. “We continued our momentum off the field as well, with another great academic year.”
