STUDENT VOICE JACOB KREMIN I chose the Cardiovascular Technology program because I wanted to help people and be in the medical field. Prior to enrolling at M State, I was enlisted with the U.S. Navy. I wanted to be involved in law enforcement and decided being part of the military police community was the best way to get experience. My enlistment ended, and I decided to take a different career path and apply at M State.

STUDENT VOICE COREY KNAUSS I had a 21-year profession as a massage therapist, and unfortunately my body could not keep up with the work.
Our class was definitely prepared for the dreaded NCLEX licensure exam.
*It is recommended to complete general education courses prior to core program. I chose M State Detroit Lakes (for my nursing degree) after researching courses and costs from a number of schools. The drive through the winters from (my home in) Moorhead to Detroit Lakes got old, but the education – not only the classes but also the practical experience – was greatly worth it. I was working full-time and had a child on the way. This was probably not the most effective way to go through the nursing program, but I was lucky enough to have Cindy Moore and Angie Mohr as instructors and friends. They knew how to motivate you and prepare you for what has been a short yet amazing career. Our class was definitely prepared for the dreaded NCLEX licensure exam, and we nailed it as a whole.

STUDENT VOICE ASHLEY DEVIER At M State, the instructors want to see you succeed – you know the teachers care. That makes the program so completely different than anything I’ve experienced. On my first day of classes, my instructor told us that she already looked at us as RNs, and I knew I was going to love it here.
At M State, the instructors want to see you succeed – you know the teachers care.
We get a lot of hands-on experience in our skills labs and our clinicals. I’ve seen the clinical paperwork that my friends at other colleges do, and our program is as hard or harder than theirs. I look at my classmates and think, “Wow, we’re going to be a good group of nurses.” Something I’ve found at M State is that every student has a story. At M State, there are people from all walks of life – who have other degrees, who had their kids early, who are minorities. That’s something I value because everybody has a story, yet everyone is seen as an equal at M State.

STUDENT VOICE ELIZABETH DIAZ I chose M State because it’s economical. Since I don’t have financial support from my family, I have to work and pay tuition on my own while raising two wonderful children. I also chose M State because of the smaller classroom sizes – the instructors really take the time to help you.
This school has given me hope. I know I will get to become a wonderful nurse here at M State.
Being a student here has helped me grow in so many ways! I love that there is a counselor available to me at all times if I need someone to talk to. This is important to me because if I’m doing well emotionally and mentally, then I know I will do my best academically. Another great example is the free tutoring available to those who need a little extra help. This school has given me hope. I know I will get to become a wonderful nurse here at M State. I am the first person in my family to go to college. Thank you, M State!

ERIN NISSEN I realized that what I was previously going to college for was just not a good match with the future lifestyle I desire. I work in the radiology department at the main Sanford hospital in Fargo. I did some research and found the Limited Scope Radiography program at M State and decided that it was going to be the best choice for me. I really enjoy the small class size we have. It is nice having so much hands-on time and getting to move at our own pace. It is an amazing learning opportunity.

DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING MANAGER ESSENTIA HEALTH ST. MARY’S Students are well-trained and ready for employment at the time of graduation. We have been fortunate to have had many of our new hires in clinical at our facility. We require high image quality, and that’s something that is emphasized in the M State program. I would certainly recommend hiring M State graduates as radiologic technologists. Currently in our Detroit Lakes location, we have 18 employees who earned their Rad Tech degrees at M State, including myself. There are numerous others hired within the West Region of Essentia Health. The opportunity to work closely with the M State program has allowed us to hire exceptional employees.

ANGIE STEVENSON
SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM DIRECTOR Angie Stevenson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Minnesota State University Moorhead and has worked in the surgical industry since 1990. She holds national certifications in surgical technology and OR nursing.
PARTNERS SPEAK FARRAH MARSH BSN, RN, CNOR DIRECTOR OF SURGICAL SERVICES, SANFORD HEALTH
We are always excited to welcome M State Surgical Technology students to our operating room. They arrive on site for their clinical experiences well-prepared and excited to learn. The ability to shadow in the OR early in the Surgical Technology program prepares them well for what they will encounter on clinicals. The instructors in the program both continue to work in the Surgical Technology field. Their depth of experience is invaluable to students beginning their careers. We value our partnership with M State and eagerly hire their graduates each year.
