Market Medley Mississippi Market Member-Owner Newsletter August-September 2016 Vol. 41 No. 4
At Mississippi Market, we’ve been providing fresh, local food for our St. Paul neighbors for more than 35 years. We know our local growers and producers and we work to support them year-round. But this time of year, when the local harvest is at its peak, we can’t help but share our excitement about local foods.
We define “local” as food and products grown, produced, or processed within the five-state area: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas. From June 2014-July 2015, we spent over $8 million in the local food system AND 46.29% of our wholesale purchases were from local farmers, producers, and Minnesota-owned businesses.
