news@farmersvilletimes.com Large crowds turned out in force for the 36th annual Old Time Saturday festivities as cooler temperatures gave Farmersville residents the opportunity to help raise money for the library, civic center and Senior Citizens Center Oct. 3. “Saturday was just about as good as it gets,” OTS Chairperson Chad Whitaker said. “It was a good turnout and the new things we added were a great draw. There was a very generous spirit that seems to be found throughout the day.” See OTS page 7A

A showdown of epic proportions took place between the Farmersville Fire Department and the Farmersville Police Department. The battle featured not police cars and fire trucks, but rather, lawn mowers at the annual Lone Star Garden Tractor Pulling Association Tractor Pull at Old Time Saturday. A special Pull Off between the Farmersville Fire Department and the Farmersville Police Department was the highlight of the tractor pull for many. Police Chief Michael Sullivan took his ‘Fired Up’ entry to the victory, for the Farmersville Police Department, in a super close match. Fire Chief Kim Morris piloted his ‘Longhorn Express’ entry to the run-

ner-up finish, just inches behind the leader, for the Farmersville Fire Department. Regardless of the police department being deemed as champions, all emergency personnel were full of smiles and laughter during the event. “If you look up and see a yellow tractor with lights on it, you might want to pull over,” the tractor pull announcer joked with audience members after Chief Sullivan secured the win. “It was really fun,” Morris said. Two rounds of LSGTPA tractor pulling action was contested at the Rike Street Park, with over 30 teams from throughout Texas on hand for the competition. Arlen Foulks of Racers For Christ delivered the invocation during opening ceremonies, followed by a National Anthem

performance by local singer Jennifer Chiappone. The Youth Class competitors took to the track first, with Mason Hovind taking the win aboard his ‘Yes Deere’ tractor. Lane Duncan drove to the runner-up finish, aboard his ‘Texas T-Rex’ machine. Jared Stephan placed his ‘Iron Head’ tractor in the third position, with Cassidy Bramlett taking fourth with her ‘Nacho’ tractor. Kody Langham scored a top five finish, with his Longhorn Express Pulling Team tractor. In Stock Class, Claude Lewis took the win over the team entries of James and Jimmy Helfferich. In Hot Stock, John Aufdenkamp led the field aboard his ‘Rusteze’ tractor. Aidan Hovind placed his ‘Yes See TRACTOR page 2A

Nursing facility to host grand opening By Wyndi Veigel News Editor

news@farmersvilletimes.com A red carpet soiree will be happening next week on Audie Murphy Parkway as Lexington Medical Lodge officially opens. The skilled nursing and longterm care facility will host their grand opening at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 and the public is invited to join them and welcome them to the community. The new facility is truly embracing the phrase ‘grand opening’ by hosting a huge party with food galore, ice sculptures, music, flowers by Carrie’s Creations and special gift giveaways. “We want the whole town to be there,” Christina Hall with Lexington Medical Lodge said. There will also be valet parking for guests along with exclusive giveaways from local businesses such as Bless My Bloomers. The lodge, which is located at 2000 W. Audie Murphy Pkwy., staff and directors have been hard at work fitting in with the community including getting to know the residents with special events such as a sneak peek event that was held in March 2015. A chamber luncheon was also held in September to let

people gain access to the facility since it was completed and several tours with the Farmersville Fire Department have also occurred at the lodge since they will respond to the facility should an emergency arise. The facility features a resortlike setting and will offer post hospital recovery, skilled nursing and long-term care. The lodge also offers many sitting areas where family and friends can come visit residents and residents can read or just sit back and relax. There are also semi-private suites with large flat screen televisions, private showers and electric beds with anti-pressure relieving mattresses. The facility also offers a short-term rehabilitation section designed to help each resident return home with the greatest independence as quickly and as comfortably as possible. Within the rehab section there is a separate therapy gym, a therapy ADL kitchen and a separate therapy dining room. The facility accepts Medicare, Medicare replacement plans, private insurance, private pay and Medicaid. For more information call 972-784-7770 or go to www. lexingtonmedicallodge.com.
