sports@farmersvilletimes.com KRUM – Two weeks ago Farmersville fell behind early and ultimately ended up losing at Cooper. The Farmers (1-1) turned the tables last Friday, scoring on their first three possessions on the way to a 35-27 win over Krum (1-1). “The difference in the two games (Cooper and Krum) is the way that we started strong. We brought the game to them, instead of having the game brought to us,” head coach Sammy Burnett said. “We really stressed that. We needed to come out and bring it to them and not start out flat like we did against Cooper. Overall, we did a good job in all three phases (offense, defense and special teams) of the game. Most important is we finished the game strong.” They finished the non-district contest with 288 total yards, with 268 of

that coming on the ground off 14 first downs. “We controlled the ball and the clock,” Burnett said. “If we can do that then we are going to be successful.” Darrin Pennington led the way with 138 yards on 16 carries and Andrew Simons added 76 on 14 totes. Farmersville’s ‘bend but don’t break
defense’ held Krum to 252 total yards, forced a fumble and gave up 10 first downs at Bobcat Stadium. “We were a whole lot more disciplined, we read our keys and let them take us to the football, which is something that coach (Jason) Davis stressed

Rains looks to end FHS winning streak
Wildcats have lost the previous five matchups By David Jenkins Staff Writer
sports@farmersvilletimes.com It would be safe to say that the Farmers have had Emory Rains’ number over the last few years. One season ago they produced a 21-7 win on the road, the fifth straight time they had beaten Emory Rains. Farmersville (1-1) will look to make it six victories in a row in the comfort of home at 7:30 p.m. Friday. “They are very physical. They run that Slot-T (on offense) and do a good job of it,”
head coach Sammy Burnett said. “They play low and hard and are pretty big upfront. We are going to have our hands full with playing lower than them and controlling the line of scrimmage. I think we have a good scheme (on defense) though. We have to limit the big plays and make them earn their scores, if we can do all those things we should have some success. It should be a good game.” The last time that Emory Rains beat the Farmers was in 2006 by the score of 16-14. A week ago, the Wildcats (0-2) fell 38-12 at home to Gladewater Sabine. One week earlier Mount Vernon pulled out a 28-22 win on their field over Emory Rains.
