A JOURNEY OF PASSION AND PURPOSE WITH BY KARA BRYANT

In the realm of Medicare Misty, there's a remarkable individual whose journey is as captivating as it is inspiring. Meet Brian Edwards, a 56-yearold dynamo with a penchant for adventure and a heart dedicated to helping others. Brian, happily married to Heather for an impressive 23 years, is a proud father of three - Tristan, the eldest at 25, followed by Ethan at 20, and the youngest, the charming Dezera, who is 19. Adding a touch of sweetness to their lives is their adorable granddaughter, Sophia. Born in the vibrant city of Baltimore, Maryland, Brian's childhood took a turn when his family moved to Richland, Washington, during his 3rd-grade year. His father's work in building nuclear power plants led them to the Hanford nuclear plant. Brian thrived in Richland. Engaging in sports like soccer, football, and even speed skating, his early years were a blend of excitement and adventure. The Edwards family's journey continued when Brian's father was transferred to Plant Vogtle in Augusta, GA. Relocating to North Augusta, SC., Brian embraced the change and navigated high school with resilience. The 10th grade marked the beginning of his love affair with speed, as his father gifted him a '71 Camaro, sparking a passion for racing.

As the adrenaline of racing fueled his weekends at Jackson Drag Stripe (now Carolina Drag Way), Brian discovered another love – welding. By his senior year, he had already honed his skills for three years. Post high school, he joined Columbia Nitrogen as a structural welder, setting the stage for a remarkable career in construction spanning from 1985 to 2019. In 2018, a friend nudged Brian towards a different path – insurance. Intrigued, he obtained his license and ventured into the world of insurance. Fate led him to Medicare Misty, where he found not just a job but also a calling. What drew him to Misty was her genuine care for others, exemplified by her numerous community initiatives. Brian expresses his gratitude for the opportunity to make a living while making a difference. Every morning, he wakes up with the question, "Who am I going to help today?" The answer lies in the fulfilling work he does with Medicare Misty, a place where making a living means making lives better.

February!

IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR HEART HEALTH!

February isn't just about love and romance; it's also American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. But don't worry, this month isn't about scaring you – it's about empowering you to take charge of your heart health and make small changes that can have a big impact. WHY IS HEART HEALTH IMPORTANT? Heart disease affects millions of Americans, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. The good news? Much of it is preventable through lifestyle choices. By focusing on healthy habits, you can significantly reduce your risk of heart problems and live a longer, healthier life. HOW TO CELEBRATE AMERICAN HEART MONTH: Get Moving: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderateintensity exercise each week. Go for a brisk walk, join a dance class, or explore a new sport – find activities you enjoy and make them part of your routine. Eat Heart-Healthy Foods: Nourish your body with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Limit processed foods, saturated and trans fats, and added sugar.

13

Know Your Numbers: Get your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checked regularly. Early detection is key to managing these risk factors. Learn CPR: Being able to perform CPR could save someone's life in a cardiac emergency. Sign up for a local training course or learn the basics online. Spread Awareness: Talk to your family and friends about heart health. Share information, encourage healthy habits, and motivate each other to stay on track. BEYOND FEBRUARY: Remember, heart health isn't just a one-month focus. Make these positive changes a part of your everyday life. Small steps, taken consistently, can lead to big improvements in your overall health and well-being.
