Buying into a New Club Benjamin Siegel (’22) This past year has dramatically changed our lives. We experienced less social interactions, less sporting activities and events, shortened school days (this might have been a good thing), and fewer after school extracurricular activities. Despite all of the challenges, more and more people have been getting the vaccine and our school is beginning to open up and allow some sports and other activities. Hopefully by next year we will be back to a normal school day along with basketball, shabbatons, NCSY conventions, and more. However, I decided that I wanted a new club in the school sooner and began to brainstorm ideas for what to start. When I entered 11th grade, I kept on wondering what to spend my Bar Mitzvah money on. Possibly

a new Xbox, TV, iPhone, or even a car. But why spend money when I could use it to make even more money? I began getting more and more involved in the stock market. This new hobby of mine was very educational and a lot of fun. Why stop there, though? I could teach my fellow classmates how to invest and hope then become rich. That is why I decided to start a new stock market club here in the school over this past month. Now, the obvious problem that I’d run into is that people wouldn’t want to spend their relaxed lunch period learning about boring line charts and graphs. However, there are incentives. For starters, there is a cash prize. I created a virtual stock market game online that is just like E-Trade and other trading platforms,
