With the upcoming cold weather, there is something big at school that everyone is excited for: winter extracurriculars. Among the several winter activities that the CYHSB offers are basketball and mock trial; however, one of the most popular non-sport extracurriculars is Yeshiva University National Model United Nations, or YUNMUN for short. very impressed if someone can tell the committee that they plan to send genetically engineered space cows to fight off space giraffes, all without laughing.YUNMUN was the highlight of my first year at CYHSB, and I cannot wait to hopefully attend the conference again this year. My advice to everyone who is trying out this Sunday: don’t worry about it so much. Do your research, know your country, and practice on your delivery beforehand. Even if you don’t make the team, you will have gotten valuable practice in research and public speaking, skills that will help you throughout your entire life. Good Luck!
For this year’s YUNMUN tryout, potential delegates must each research a country assigned to them by our team’s advisor, Mrs. Tsuna. The topic of the tryout is gun control and laws. Students must do extensive research into their country’s views on this topic. This Sunday, students will give a one minute oral presentation as a “delegate” from their research countries. They must speak about and explain their country’s views on whether or not people have the right to be armed, if there should be a global standard for gun control, and whether each country has the right to make their own laws regarding dangerous firearms and other weapons.Thismay seem like a lot, but in reality it is not so hard. The tryout judges are not judging so much on the content of the presentation, but more on the delivery. Of course it is important to have good information and solid sources, but the information will do no good if the speaker fails in presenting and fails in presenting their information well. This is one of the most important parts of YUNMUN, and it especially comes in handy during “Crisis.” For

every committee at YUNMUN, the chairs and advisors of the conference come up with a crisis specific to that committee. These crises are very unusual and often very silly. Last year I was on COPOUS, an outer space related committee. Our crisis was that invading space giraffes had come to Earth, and were threatening to blow it up if we did not give them the Great Wall of China. We each separated into groups, coming up with silly ideas to fend off the space giraffes. I remember one group had the idea to create genetically modified space cows that would fight off the space giraffes. Of course in this scenario, the information you have doesn’t matter. What matters is the way you deliver it. The chairs of committees will be

For every picture the camera takes, it picks up four times more information. Then it uses the A16 bionic chip which modifies every pixel to be perfect, enabling you to get pictures that look larger than life. That is not the only camera change they've made. Apple has also introduced 48 megapixel pro raw images letting you adjust, edit, and resize your images to fit your personal desires. Apple also introduced a whole new way to use their cameras with the introduction of action mode, which will let you get amazing videos in not the most ideal conditions. For example, if
It's that time of the year again! Apple has just released a whole roster of new items and all of them look incredibly promising. 14 Pro is one of, if not, the most impressive phone on the market right now. We’ll start off with the always-on display feature: when you hit the power button on the new iPhone, your phone will not go off; instead, the iPhone 14 Pro will dim your lock screen to save battery, while at the same time showing you need-to-know information such as the time, the weather, and when all your sefarim are Manyarriving.people are upset about the fact that the notch on the top of the screen was not removed with the new iPhone, but I have to say that I am not one of those people. To replace the notch, Apple gave us the all-new dynamic island, which functions as a permanent widget that can show you information, play music, and shift to whatever function you would like to use it for. For many Apple enthusiasts, this is the main pull towards the newThephone.iPhone

high G Force accelerometer, gyroscopes, and sensors, the Phone 14 Pro can detect when you crash your car and automatically call the police to get you the help you need. The final thing to discuss is Apple's A16 bionic chip. Apple’s new bionic chip is charged by almost 16 billion transistors and is the fastest chip in any smartphone. Using the A16 bionic chip, Apple is able to power all of these amazing new features, and prove once again that Apple is the future of technology.
The big question is whether you should buy the iPhone 14 Pro. The 14 Pro starts at $999 which is a pretty hefty price tag; however, its main competition is almost the same price nowadays, and you are getting more with the iPhone 14 Pro. If you recently bought a phone (specifically any iPhone 13), then unless you are upgrading to the 14 Pro Max (larger than the 14 Pro), I don’t really see the point of buying it. However, if you are like me and have a iPhone 12 or under, I would 100% (in my definitely expert opinion) say that if you have the extra one grand, then you should go for it because this phone is the best phone on the market. Apple has been moving pretty slow since the iPhone 11, but with this new phone the future of Apple is looking more and more promising everyday.

As mentioned above Apple has also recently introduced the almost indestructible Apple Watch, otherwise known as the Apple Watch Ultra. The Apple Watch Ultra is basically a military grade Apple watch. Unlike the majority of Apple's products, the Apple Watch Ultra is not a device for your average joe, instead it is built for top tier athletes and adventurers. The Apple Watch Ultra can withstand below freezing and up to one hundred and thirty degrees above it, making it so that hikers can track themselves in any environment. Apple also knows that some explorers go out for more than one day which is why the Apple Watch Ultra can go for 3 days off of a single charge. The Apple Watch Ultra is built with as many exploration tools as Apple could fit, with a dual frequency compass, waypoint marking so you can find
your way back and see where you've been, and a dive computer tracking your depth, how long it will take you to surface, and even water temperature. Apple has also put a feature that when it gets dark you can switch off the blue light from your apple watch to avoid damaging your eyes. Apple has also added the action button which is a button one can customize to make a shortcut with just the press of a button so that any urgent things are just a button press away. Not only this but because of the sapphire surface and titanium casing the Apple Watch Ultra is not only extremely durable, it is also twice as waterproof as any other smartwatch on the market. The Apple Watch Ultras three microphones triangulate so that whoever you are

talking to can hear you even in the loudest of environments. At the Apple event they said that with the Apple Watch Ultra you will be able to complete an entire Ironman triathlon, which is 2.4 miles of swimming, followed by 112 miles of cycling, and finally 26.2 miles of running, and track it the whole time. This watch is absolutely mental and basically indestructible but it is one thousand dollars, and you probably don’t need it unless you are an extreme athlete.

During a time when Jews were heavily restricted by a curfew and were precluded from wandering the streets of Russia at night, a Chassid of the Rebbe of Karlin chose to risk his life just for the opportunity to be close to his Rebbe. As he defied the law in order to bask in the Rebbe’s presence, while running through the streets, clutching his book of Tehillim, he was spotted by a Russian policeman. The Chassid was swiftly apprehended and dragged to prison as his book of Tehillim was taken from his hands. While lamenting quietly, he reminded himself that although they took away his opportunity to be close to his Rabbi, they couldn’t stop him from being a Jew. Immediately, he jumped to his feet and started dancing wildly. As the prison guard saw this unusual expression of faith in prison, he sent the Jew out of the prison, screaming after him that there is no room in the jail for such a mentally deranged man.
not a mistake, G-d put this here to remind us that the Mitzvot are not a burden, but instead, they exist to help us enjoy this world that He has put us in in the most enjoyable way possible.Theanalogy is given: David bought a computer from Dell. As he opened the box he saw the warning sign informing him not to leave the laptop in the sun. However, as rebellious as David was, he decided to defy this warning and leave his laptop out in the sun anyway. When he turned it on the next day, he noticed that absolutely nothing had changed. The computer turned on just fine and all the apps worked as perfectly as ever.
So why did the company give the warning? They gave it because they knew that even though in the short term nothing bad would happen to the computer, in the long run, it would be bad. So too with the Torah, although sometimes we may break commandments and see no effect and assume that nothing happened, G-d gave us a guidebook for life, and when we break what it says in it we’re just doing harm to ourselves in the long run. The true way to enjoy life in its entirety is to see the Torah as a guidebook that is telling us how best to enjoy our lives and to rejoice in the commandments rather than to see them as burdensome tasks.

This week’s parsha, Ki Tavo, is a parsha filled with commandments. And while many of us as Jews see the Mitzvot as a burden and as something that we are forced to do, G-d reminds us in the parsha that “...you shall enjoy…all the bounty that your G-d has bestowed upon you and your household.” This was

Parshas Ki Tavo teaches us the value of doing Hashem’s mitzvos with joy and excitement, but perhaps this value can be applied to other areas of our lives. As Rosh Hashana approaches the beginning a new year presents us with with many new mitzvah opportunities to be excited for, like supporting our friends in YUNMUN. Hopefully we will utilize these mitzvah opportunities and serve Hashem with joy.
