CAHABA SPOT LIGHT Rachel Osburn Tell us a little bit about your family.

I have a daughter who is 3 and a son who is a year and a half. I love my job as counselor at Cahaba. My husband and I also love working with our side business, Osburn Acres, making jelly for lots to enjoy.

What is your role at Cahaba?

Lexington NC What led you to a career in education?

I wanted to work with children Tell us something interesting about yourself: I am a pastor's daughter! When my dad first became a pastor, we held church for 20 people in our living room. I always thought it was silly that I couldn't go to "church" in my PJ's.

I've been married to Allen, who is a general contractor, for 11.5 years. We have three boys, Jack (4th grade), Witt (2nd grade), and Price (4k). We are originally from Mississippi, but Trussville is now home sweet home!

What is your role at Cahaba?

Speech Language Pathologist Where did you go to college and what degrees/certification do you hold?

Communication Disorders from Ole Miss (which my MS State husband is embarrassed about... haha), and I hold a Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Mississippi University for Women.

What city or town do you consider to be your hometown?

Grenada, MS What led you to a career in education?

In college, I knew I wanted a career where I could work with kids everyday.

My major was in special education and a required class was Intro to Communicative Disorders. I absolutely fell in love with the field during that class, changed my major, and never looked back! I love helping kids "find their voice�!

Tell us something interesting about yourself. Mrs. Tyner and I have a connection from the past! She lived in Grenada, MS (the little bitty town that I grew up in) for a few years and taught school with my aunt. Just another reason that Cahaba feels like home. Also, I have worked as an SLP in schools in 4 different states, including California.

FAQ I left things in my classroom. When can I come get them?

We’re waiting until the virus settles down some.

I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to let you in the building sometime in June to pick up all your things.

The teachers are anxious to get back in our building too.

Can we take AR tests at home?

Yes! I’m so excited that we are able to make this possible. I’m trusting that you will read your books thoroughly before logging in for a test. Remember, it’s OK to use your book as a reference when testing.

The Wall of Fame was one of my goals. Can we still make the wall? Yes! We are committed to updating the Wall of Fame. It may be a week or so before we have time, but keep working on those Dreambox Standards and taking those AR tests.

STUDENT SHOUT OUTS Our CES Dogs didn’t get a chance to serve this last rotation, but we are proud of their leadership and look for them to be leaders in our community.
