Youth vs. Adults

Dear Editor, I strongly agreed with your article on the youth culture. I feel that adults should not worry about the younger generation, if they do not agree in what we do, that’s fine, it is not their life. Adults have been trying to control our lives forever, it is time that we get to decide our future.

Modern women spend a lot of time at home, they do not get to go and have fun with their friends. They clean their homes and then read in their free time. It is not fair to the youth that we have to help the adults cook and clean in our free time when we should be having fun. This age is perfect for just living your life.

Women also can not kiss their boyfriends unless they couple consider themselves soul mates. How lame! Adults get mad about the silliest things. What does it matter what we wear anyway. If I want to show more skin why can I not? We have no worries right now. We should be living our lives just like you said. Thank you for speaking for us young people and having the nerve to say what needed to be said.

The ‘20s was an exciting, and frightening time to be young, this was the first era of first youth rebellion, both men and women changed their appearances. The ‘20s were sometimes called “Era of wonderful nonsense” Women’s independence grew in this time period, new inventions are made, saving house keeper’s time and energy, and women can have jobs.

When the 18th amendment was ratified, prohibition had the United Country behind it.

Increased popularity of distilled against liquors.

New sorts of freedom were made possible.

American life was in constant flux, newer homes are smaller, had electricity, indoor plumbing, central heating, and often garages.

Houses ranged from $500 - to - $10,000.

Flappers changed the way society looked at women.

Religion vs. Science Dear Editor, Have you ever thought of what the Scopes Trial is? Or who John Scopes is? Or if he is found guilty or non-guilty? Well I can answer all of your questions. Today, July 21, 1925, when John scopes is being accused of teaching evolution in a classroom. He has filled in as a substitute teacher for science.

Evolution is formed from Charles Darwin.

Darwin's theory is that all mankind, including animals, plants and humans came from a single organism or, had evolved from similar forms of life. Teaching any form of evolution is illegal in public schools.Bibles are being sold on every block. But why? Science is proven that a monkey can do things like any normal human as a baby. They can write, walk, and they even have almost the same bone structure as a human being. Why argue this? This is the first American trial ever to broadcast live on a radio. Which can convince more and more people to believe that science has been proven in this case. In the end Scopes is found guilty and being fined $100.

Rural vs. Urban Dear Editor, Thank you for writing this great article on rural life in the U.S.! I'm glad someone respects the hard working’ life that us farmers live. I agree when you said that these cities are becoming too big. Because of this, too many crimes are happening in these big cities. That's why the country life is the best life. There aren't any gangs roaming up and down these streets. The nation of farmers needs to return. Even though the agriculture is on a downfall, that doesn’t mean to quit on your good old farm home! I just don’t know why people don’t think like us. I also agree with your thoughts that this new fancy technology and electricity is very unnecessary. Who needs to light up their house like a big candle every day? Also, what good is a car that is much more expensive than a horse and buggy? We had it good the way it was, I just don’t know why these cities are so popular. Not much good is coming from them.Thanks again for writing this article that shows the good life of the rural communities. Hopefully, we can get back to the days where farm were much more popular than cities.

Dear Editor, Moving to the town was the best decision I’ve ever made. I used to be a farmer. I lived in the quiet countryside with my wife and kids. We had acres of crops and neighbors that watched out for each other. We were financially stable. Then the war (WWI) ended. After the war, demand for products dropped. Suddenly, I found myself with more products than I could sell and not enough buyers. To make matters worse, crop prices went down.

I saw many of my neighbors lose their farms to the banks and had no choice but to move to the city. Times got tough. I sold my farm, paid off my debt and moved to the city.

I was afraid I wouldn’t find any work. But luckily, within a few weeks, my wife and I found work. There is no shortages of jobs in the city. Wages are pretty good. The consumer price index has remained steady.

I would highly recommend to all my farmer friends still out there struggling, to come to the city and give it a try. Life is so much better here.

Warren Harding was the 29th president of the United States.

Hardings presidency was overshadowed by the criminal activities of some of his cabinet members. He was a successful newspaper who served in the Ohio State Legislature and the U.S. Senate, he also won the general election. Harding promised “return to normalcy” after the hardships of WW1.

Calvin Coolidge was the 30th president of the United States. He led the nation through most of “The Roaring Twenties” he was nicknamed ‘Silent Cal’ because he was quiet, steadfast, and frugal nature. Coolidge was the former Republican Govner of Massachusetts, cleaned up the rampant corruption of Harding Administration. Coolidge provided stability and respectablity for people in the fast-paced modernization.

Herbert Hoover was the 31st president of the United States, Hoover took presidency as soon as U.S economy went into the Great Depression. Though, his predecessors policies undoubtedly contributed to the crisis, which lasted over a decade. Hoover bored much of the blame in the minds of American People. As the depression deepened, Hoover failed to recognize the severity of the situation or leverage the power of the Federal Government to squarely address it.

Dear Editor, I strongly agree with your article on the society issues that we need to be aware of. The Ku Klux Klan is getting worse and worse every time I hear about them. They will not stop! They are killing anyone in their way that is not their religion and does not have the same beliefs as they do. They even are putting things on fire in the middle of the night and leave a trail of terror for everyone to see in the morning. The Ku Klux Klan is getting too dangerous, they are the most powerful organization, and it grows even more as time goes on. Parents are afraid to send their kids to places alone because they know that something will happen to them and they may not be able to see them again. The Ku Klux Klan is very intimidating through violence. Wherever they go a trail of horror follows behind. Blacks are beaten so bad that they are dying from exposure. And when there is not violence, they are always making threats about the violence and bad things that will happen in the future.

The Ku Klux Klan is very scary for many people. They do scary things, and just their look is scary. It is a group of all whites and they are all Christian, until now. They are now adding Jews and Catholics as objects of intolerance.

They also are letting white women join in as well.

They wear clothing that is all white and has a white mask with holes cut out for the eyes. The klan started in the south and is going through the whole country. At the peak of the klan’s power, which is right now, the Ku Klux Klan has 4 million members over the 48 states that they cover.

Another huge issue that is also very important is immigration here in the United States. There were too many immigrants taking advantage of the United States’ rights. I think that in your article you did a great job explaining the things we need to worry about with immigrants coming to the United States. But I also know that immigration is not all bad, we just need to set the rules for them. The immigrants, or at least some of the immigrants, should not be allowed to go to big cities, many immigrants go to big cities because they have a background there and there are more job opportunities. But, we already have enough people in big cities and those jobs should be going to native people here in the United States. Though many do not stay in the big cities, most immigrants have the goal to go to the West Coast because they want to work at vineyards, lumber mills, and California rice farms, there are also many open homes there.

Because so many immigrants are coming to the United States, congress is in the process of trying to pass a law that limits the amount of immigrants that can come to the United States from each country. Once the law is passed, they will call it the 1921 Act. The 1921 Act states that only 3 percent of people that live in the United States can come from each country. If the law gets passed, this will help bring immigration down to about 50 percent. A few years later from now we may need to lower the percentage down as our country's population grows larger.

I think that this is a good decision to have, because only some immigrants should be allowed to come to the United States because otherwise we would get over populated. Also, some immigrants, like in Russia and Eastern Europe, are known to be dangerous. So keeping the amount of immigrants that can come to the United States down will also help the citizens safety. I think that your article did a very good job informing the citizens about what to look out for and how you can be safe. Your article was a very important matter and should be sent to everyone to help inform them on our society issues at the moment.

Businesses are growing more and more. Businesses are making new products including radios, electric refrigerators, faster cars, shinier bathroom, and plusher caskets.

Businesses are becoming a national obsession. By 1928 prices of stocks had been raised. 1.5 million Americans were involved in the market. Savings and insurance doubled. New businesses and production methods allowed manufacturers to boost turnover and to make large profits which they plowed back into new factories and wage rises.

Between 1920 and 1929, installment purchases quintupled, $6 billion annually. 90% piano, sewing and washing machine sales. 80% vacuum cleaner, radio and refrigerator sales. 70% furniture sales. 60% auto sales. Credit opened broad new vistas. People would spend more than what they are getting paid with credit. Economists considered credit buying handmaiden of prosperity.

Credit is allowing people to buy things in amounts not just out of pocket.

Ex: a man in Muncie, Indiana who earned $35 a week payed $35 a month for a car. Why pay all of your money now when you can split it up into sections? By buying this in sections and splitting it up it allows you to not go in debt and lets you to ease off and buying the things you would like to be in your home or things you would like for entertainment for you and your family.

Alexander Fleming claims that he has invented the first true antibiotic. He has published his findings in the British Journal of Experimental Pathology. Fleming claims his “mold juice� was capable of killing a wide range of harmful bacteria, such as streptococcus, meningococcus and diphtheria bacillus. Up until now there has been no effective treatment for infections such as pneumonia,, gonorrhea, or rheumatic fever. The egyptians had a practice of applying moldy bread to infected wounds.

Hopefully, fleming's penicillin will replace moldy bread for americans.

Unlike the six aviators before him, Charles Lindbergh, has survived and won the Orteig Prize. The Spirit of St. Louis is the custom built, single engine, single-seat monoplane that was flown solo by Charles Lindbergh on May 20-21 1927, on the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris.

Charles Lindbergh was the first to ever do this. Charles Lindbergh won $25,000. The flight took 33 hours and 30 minutes and a total distance of 3,600 miles from New York to Paris.
