The heroes of our Foundation are the grantees who have continued to carry out their respective missions in this very difficult time. Whether providing care to the most vulnerable, educating and encouraging leadership in children and young adults or continuing the exploration to find answers through science our grantees have persevered and proved their exceptional value.

Message from Our Chair

Every investment we make through the Foundation is an investment in improving our society and as in business we consider our value and impacts daily. As we look at what has been achieved in the 20/21 fiscal year, we see real advancement which is highlighted in this annual report. We also recognize that grantees have struggled with new challenges and need more and new resources to remain strong and successful.

During these turbulent times our grantees are the true heroes, they have persevered and proved their exceptional value.

This year reinforced the culture of both collective and individual creativity in the Foundation as we saw new projects initiated by family members and we came together to strengthen our legacy commitments.

It is an honour for me to continue to sit around a table with family members and lead our efforts to bettering our communities. I look forward to another year where three generations of our family can explore and expand on vision and aspirations.

In the spring of 2020, MRGFF was asked by local Foundations to participate in consultations about how to secure the non profit sector.

Message from

Our President

Ongoing dialogue with larger grantee partners – particularly Federation CJA and Centraide – allowed for information sharing and gauging the scope of need.

In Israel, responding to needs related to the pandemic, assistance was granted in providing basic necessities. Additionally, important and successful initiatives supported by the Foundation outside of the pandemic were launched. Many important programs saw substantial growth, including the Jewish Funders Network Family Philanthropy Center and the Excellence for Science Teaching program at Weizmann Institute.

In Montreal, family members continued to be active in leading the critical work of the McGill Goodman Cancer Research Centre 06

and helping to transition to Institute status. Furthermore, a third year of funding for the Goodman Pediatric Formulation Centre was completed with a number of successes in availability of pharmaceuticals for kids. Active involvement with the Passport Project at Federation continued along with ongoing support of the CAPS program, which reduces barriers to Jewish education for middle income families. Family members further took it upon themselves to address two important social needs; the development of Summer Camps Israel and the start of a new project encouraging higher education for Israelis of Ethiopian descent.

Without action, words disappear and become old memories. Investing in "good" responds to need and creates a path for future generations.

Family Branch Flagship programs Investing in Higher Education for both personal and societal ROI “Walk in their Shoes” Campaign In partnership with Hebrew University and Tel Aviv University, we are working to raise $10 million to fund scholarships for Israelis of Ethiopian decent. Education is our People’s time proven recipe for personal growth and societal cohesion. Through the magic of education, these scholarships will both help to better the lives of Israelis of Ethiopian decent and, through improved integration, will create a more harmonious and righteous Israeli society.

Brown RISD Hillel Arts Committee A unique program is being organized on the campus to allow students to find new ways of connecting to their Jewish Heritage through the arts. Art is so important in defining our society and can serve as another means of allowing students to engage in productive dialogue while encouraging diversity and inclusion.

Improving Quality of Life: Federation CJA We joined a critical COVID relief campaign taking care of the most vulnerable members of our Montreal community during this challenging time. The fund provides basic services and covers essential needs ensuring individuals and families are connected to a full range of services.

Building community via Informal Education: “Summer Camps Israel” We have made a bold investment in overnight summer camps in Israel after identifying a gap in opportunity in the summer landscape. Since then, thousands of Israeli youth ages 11-16 took part in this unique opportunity to develop autonomy, leadership, a sense of civic responsibility and learn a vast array of new skills while having fun.

Advancing Science through Research: University of Virginia Advancing scientific research is one of the main areas of focus of the Foundation. As such and with the goal of improving public health, support is offered to the University of Virginia towards innovation in using nano technology in the development of medications.

Ateliers éducatifs/

Educational workshops La Fondation de la famille Morris et Rosalind Goodman organise deux formations par années avec le but de favoriser le renforcement des capacités et les activités de réseautage entre nos récipiendaires. Nous travaillons en partenariat avec la Fondation J. Armand Bombardier pour offrir une programmation pertinente aux défis vécus par les organismes à but non lucratif.

Bilangues et dynamiques, les ateliers visent à aider les organisations communautaires au-delà de l’apport financier. L’objectif est de créer un espace alternatif de formation favorisant le partage de connaissance et le développement de l’apprentissage collectif.
