How to Make Three Polymer Clay Projects

Looks hard but its easy! By: Larissa A. Have you ever wanted to learn how to make clay projects? Well I will be teaching you step-by-step on how to make a Rainbow Cake, a Snowman, and a Football… This is polymer clay, the same as oven bake clay, Well lets begin!

RAINBOW CAKE Materials… at least 3 polymer clay colors that you like or the rainbow colors, white clay, then any decorations for your clay cake you could make out of clay, and a x-acto knife, eye pin, (OPTIONAL) dotting tool, clay glaze, or clear nail polish. 1. Get your colors and condition them. 2. Make them into circles by hand or a cookie cutter. 3. Then stack the clay in the desired order. 4. Roll out a thin sheet of the white clay, with a rolling pin or pasta machine (set at 6, or 7) 5. Put the white sheet of clay on the stack of the color clay, and cover the bottom with white too and cut off the rest of the white clay. 6. POP! it into the freezer for 3 minute and if you don’t have a freezer right now and its still winter put it outside. 6.5. WAIT!!! 7. Take your almost finished cake out of the freezer. 8. Cut a slice of cake with the x-acto knife. 9. Use your x-acto knife, or dotting tool and make dots, go in a circular motion, (to rough it up) 10. If you have clay decorations then add those on if you don’t do it after step 12. then add the eye pin if you want to make it a charm. 11. Then bake!!! according to your clay package. 12. Use your clay glaze, or clear nail polish and cover the cake in glaze, nail polish. 13. DONE!!!!! ENJOY!!!!

The clay I prefer… My favorite clay is polymer clay aka baking clay. Its better than air dry clay because when your working with air dry clay you have to work fast and you need a air tight container but with baking clay you have a little container or you can leave it out, but your clay project will become like all dry and will be not as pretty if you just made it and put it into the oven right away! It will look a lot better plus it will look shiny if you add clear nail polish or glaze! So go with baking clay!

SNOWMAN Materials… White clay, black clay, color of choice (for hat and scarf), orange clay. (OPTIONAL) clay glaze, or clear nail polish.

1. Make one big ball, medium ball, and a small ball of white clay. 2. Put the big ball on the bottom, medium in middle, small ball on top. 3. Roll 2 black small ball of clay (a little smaller than the head) then flatten one of the clay balls, and then push the other one down a little bit. 4. Put the round ball of clay on the flat ball of clay. 5. Then roll out your color of choice into a thin log, next place where the 2 black balls meet on the hat. After than place on snowman’s head. 6. Then make a carrot nose out of the orange clay, roll into a log, then have a tip on the front of its nose (aka carrot). 7. Make a little mouth, roll out a black piece of clay, cut it to the size you want and place it under the carrot nose. 8. Add a scarf, roll out a small long log of your choice of clay, then place where the middle ball and the top ball meet, then cross the two parts of clay over each other, then cut it to desired lank. 9. BAKE! According to your clay package. 10. Add your clay glaze, or clear nail polish, once again OPTIONAL. 11. DONE!!!!! ENJOY!!!!!

FOOTBALL Materials… Brown clay, white clay, eye pin, (OPTIONAL) clay glaze, or clear nail polish. 1. Make a football shape, with the ends pointed, then round them out. 2. Make a thin line of white clay 3. Put the thin line of clay on the ends 4. In the middle of the football put a line of white clay, then 3 lines going down the line to make the grip thing for the football. 5. Then insert the eye pin anywhere on the football. 6. BAKE! According to your clay package. 7. Add your clay glaze, or clear nail polish, once again OPTIONAL. 8. DONE!!!! ENJOY!!!!

CONCLUSION In this feature article I taught you how to make a Rainbow cake, a Snowman, and a Football. I hope that you consider trying to make these simple projects, and let your creativity come out and you use your creativity and I hope I taught you some fun projects! And happy crafting! A Dog’s Perspective How dogs see the world. By Rachael A. There are many fascinating things about dogs. The way they see, hear, smell, it is almost like they are superhuman. They can locate people lost, hidden, or trapped. They can smell, bombs, cancer, and even understand our feelings. This is the way dogs see everything, in a dog’s perspective.

eye that controls the perception of color.” So,

Body Language

they might not see as well as us, but they can see some color. Psychology today says, “Jay Neitz confirmed that dogs actually do see color, but many fewer colors than normal humans do. Instead of seeing the rainbow as violet, blue, blue-green, green, yellow, orange, and red, dogs see it as dark blue, light blue, blue gray, light yellow, dark yellow (sort of brown), and very dark gray.”

Body language is one way dogs can communicate to us and other animals. An example of this is when a dog comes up to you or another animal and lowers their head with their front legs bent, their rear in the air, their tail up high wagging, their ears perked, and their mouth open, that probably means they want to play. They might look at you and do that position and hold it for a second, then break out into a run in some random direction. While doing this, they might let out some occasional wild barks. There are also many other ways dog can express their feelings through body language whether they want to eat, go outside, sleep, etc. Seeing Most people think dogs see in black and white, but that’s not exactly true. According to Pedigree, “Recent studies suggest that they actually do have some color vision, but not as bright as humans. Dogs only have about 20% of the cone photoreceptor cells- the part of the

Hearing, Barks, and Smell Dogs also communicate to eachother by barks. If a dog has ever looked out the window as someone or something is approaching, then start barking in a rapid mid-range pitch, they are technically saying, “Call the pack. Someone is entering our territory. We may need to action soon.” Dogs can also hear very high pitches and smell a lot better too. According to Dog Breed Info Center, Dogs can smell 1,000-10,000,000 times better than humans. Humans have about

5,000,000 scent glands while dogs have 300,000,000. Dogs can also hear 4x the distance of humans and have 67-45,000hz (hertz), varies in breed, while humans only have 64-23,000hz. Tails End

So, as you can see, dogs are amazing creatures and have incredible abilities to smell, hear, understand us, and more. There are just so many things in the world of dog that are yet to be discovered and so many ways a dog sees the world in their perspective.

History of The Milk-Bone Created in 1908 by the F.H. Bennett Biscuit Co., which operated a bakery in the lower east side of New York City. The first dog biscuit treat made in the U.S., Milk-Bone Gave pet parents a little something to show their best friend how much they care. It was love at first bite. The bone shaped treat and the box with the dog quickly became icons. Over the next few decades, Milk-Bone continued to grow and reward good dogs by introducing new flavors, sizes and treats. Today Milk-Bone gives you 20 different varieties of treats so you can show your best friend how much you care.

Starbucks and Biggby’s The Two Big Names in Coffee

By Katie C. Do you drink Starbucks or Biggby's coffee? Well Starbucks and Biggby's are the two big names in coffee. But they weren't always the two big names. They both took time to get to the top, they both had trouble too. They started off small and built their way up, and they both have a lot of history.

Starbucks History The very first Starbucks opened on March 30, 1971 by three partners who met each other while students at the University of San Francisco. An English teacher Starbucks path to $10 billon dollors Jerry Baldwin, a history teacher Zev Siegl, and a writer Gordon Bowker. All three of them were inspired to sell high-quality coffee beans, according to Pendergrast.com . During 1984, the original owners of Starbucks, Jerry, Zev , and Gordon purchased Peets. In 1980, total sales of coffee in America were dropping. Although the sales of specialty coffee increased , forming 10% of market in 1989, compared to 3% in 1983. In 1994 Starbucks slowly started

to gain more money . In 1998 Starbucks was gaining lots of money. In 2002 Starbucks was gaining even more money. Then between 2006-2007 Starbucks reached their goal of $10,000,000,000.

Biggby’s History On March 15, 1995, Beaner’s opened their first café at a former Arby’s. Fish and Rozel (the founders of Beaners/Biggby’s) then opened a second café in downtown Lansing. In 1997, Fish and Rozel were unaware that “Beaner” is an ethnic slur for Hispanics. In late 2007, the chain decided to change its name to Biggby Coffee. Biggby was chosen because of the logo, a big “B” and a “fun” name, according to Biggyb’s.com. The first store that opened under the name of Biggby Coffee was on October 29, 2007 in Westland, Michigan. The changed name Biggby was in all stores by January 31, 2008. In December 2007, Biggby was awarded MBC Global's 3rd Quarter Multicultural Achievement Award. They won the award for completing the name change on a completely voluntary basis. That same year, Biggby was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Annual Franchise 500 list, ranked 289 out of the 500 companies profiled. In 2008, the company moved up 34 spots to number 255 which was the second among coffee retailers on the list. Today Today Starbucks revenue is $11,700,000. Today Biggby’s revenue is is about the same. They are now the two big names and have worked their way to the top.

Have you ever wondered how big bears can get? How small? Well, an average bear can hurt a human 10,000 times harder than someone getting punched by another human. But “the biggest bear can hurt a human 20,000 times harder than getting punched,” says PBS. Bears may seem like a 0easy encounter, but they can be very deadly. On July 30, 2010, there was a very deadly grizzly bear attack.

Bears Around The World Bears around the world can weigh anywhere from “150 pounds to 500+ pounds,” announces Jenna Denina Okada. Grizzlies, polar bears, brown bears. Those bears are all

average, right? Wrong. Bears can ACTUALLY weigh lots more, if they are born with the right DNA. One grizzly bear is over 500 pounds MORE than an average bear! “This bear weighs more than 5 fully grown men,” claims Mike Mclntosh from National Geographic. That’s COMBINED! 95% of bears can barely even compare to this one.

Biggest Ever So maybe you have heard of average bears. But it’s almost certain that you’ve never heard of the biggest. “This massive bear weighed in at 1,700+ pounds and was about 12 and a half feet long,” reports Guinness World Records. That is taller than two tall adults their heights combined! The man that hunted it, at Hitchenbay Island in Alaska, worked for the Forest Service Of Alaska. If more people knew that bear, they might even name him Kyle.

Biggest Now So now, you know average bears, and the biggest bear ever recorded. The current biggest bear (as of 2013) weighs about 1,200 pounds. A little over 400 pounds less than the biggest recorded. Now THIS bear is about 11 feet, found also in Alaska. This bear was not hunted, but was found by the same Forest Service Committee. People might name THIS bear Luther.

The Smallest Bear The smallest bear weighed 260 grams at birth. The bear didn’t last long, but the bears parents moved on from their record winning cub. A man from the Nature Committee even got photos! This bear is more than 15 pounds less than an average bear at birth. This bear was found in Tokyo sewers, Japan.

Conclusion Although most bears around the world are average, the biggest and the smallest were not. To wrap it all up, Kyle and Luther were very big bears, but regular bears are big too! If you see a bear, don’t run. The hunter was happy with himself for hunting the biggest bear. “He charged at me, and I took an air attack. And he was gone,” the hunter from the Nature As888889sociation advertises. Drakelan Farm LLC By Dusty Drake Where do you think milk comes from? One way is from cows, and they live on dairy farms. Cows have different breeds, such as Holstein, Brown Swiss, jersey, and crossbreeds. Back in the 1960’s, cows were milked by hand, but nowadays, they are milked by machine. To run a dairy farm, you should understand the history and know-how of raising milked cattle. Drakelan Farm Started Drakelan Farms was started by Harold and Elma Drake in 1936. Before Harold completely started Drakelan Farms, he was a hired hand on a dairy farm in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He worked for three years, then fell in love with the farmer’s daughter, Elma Jedele. At that point, Harold became the coowner of the farm. Farming and Equipment Harold milked in stanchions and fed the cows in the trough. The troughs were in front of the stanchions. When Harold started working on the farm, they used horses. Horses were used until 1938. Then in 1940, they got a tractor with steel tires. Present Day Believe it or not, there is a fourth generation farmer on Drakelan Farms. His name is Dustin Drake, and he is a dairy farmer. Now, his Dad (Steve), grandpa (Don), and uncle (Curtis) work on the family farm still using techniques his great grandfather Harold Drake used. Pictured right is a group shot of the Drakelan Farm family.

ou may know what soccer is, but do you know

the back-story on how it got started? Do you know who invented soccer? Why they changed the name from football to soccer? Who invented the rules? How much more popular it is compared to other sports? What the first rubber soccer ball was like? It’s actually a pretty fascinating story, and you don’t even have to love soccer to be wowed by it.

Ow! He bit me! Before rules for soccer were invented, players could practically do whatever they wanted on the field. In the medieval times, soccer allowed kicking, punching, gouging, and biting each other. Soldiers admired the game so much that they would miss archery practice to watch it. Even Queen Elizabeth II loved soccer. She was a natural athlete, and, dressed in disguise, was a frequent participant in pick-up soccer matches near Buckingham Palace in her teenage years. Because she was playing in disguise, people would be playing with royalty and not even realize it.

Fute-ball Soccer used to be called fute-ball (football). Why did they change the name? The American had a form of football already, so they decide to somehow relate Association to soccer. They took the soc from association and called it soccer. Well, actually, not the whole world calls soccer, soccer. In fact,

Top Ten Soccer Players of All Time! 1. Pele (Edson Arantes do Nascimento) 2. Lionel Messi 3. Diego Maradona 4. Johan Cruyff 5. Franz Beckenbauer 6. Michel Platini 7. Alfredo Di Stéfano 8. Ferenc Puskás 9. Eusébio 10. George Best

most of the world calls it football. North Americans are the ones who call it soccer.

World Cup It’s every soccer players dream to win the World Cup trophy. The trophy didn’t always look so great, you know. The old world cup trophy was actually made out of paper mache, but changed because of heavy rain. The oldest soccer trophy ever is called the Youden Cup. Charles Goodyear invented the oldest soccer ball in 1836. He had designed and built the first ever vulcanized rubber soccer balls. One of his balls was on display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame, which was located in Oneonta, NY, USA.

Dolphins are very unique animals, but there is one particular dolphin that’s very unique and well known. Her name is Winter. Winter is a rescue dolphin and was found when she was 2 months old. She lost her tail and has faced many hard challenges throughout her life. She was trapped, saved, and also taught herself a new way to swim. Winter is a magnificent dolphin and this is her story. If Winter swam like this the rest of her life it would prevent her muscles from growing properly. A man named Kevin Carroll made prosthetic limbs for people. He stepped in and developed a new tail

for Winter. Now Winter would be able to swim moving her tail up and down and her muscles would most likely grow correctly. Kid Zone states that, “Winter wears her tail for one or less hours a day.”

Winter is a one-of-a-kind dolphin and has a great story. She has been through many hard situations but now she is on top of the world. That’s the story of how Winter was found, saved, and was able to swim again. Winter was an inspiration to many kids. Because Winter wore her tail and learned to enjoy it, kids with Winter’s blue mat

hearing aids and bionic body parts did the same.

Cell Phones Then vs. Now The History Behind The Cell Phone By Katelyn G. Have you ever wondered about the first cell phone? Who invented it? When was it invented? Today, almost everyone carries their cell phone around everywhere they go. But most people don’t know the history behind them. The First Cell Phone The first cell phone is very different from our cell phones today. The first cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper. The process of making it was about 10 years. The “brick like” phone took about 10 hours to charge while our smartphones only take about an hour! Today’s Cell Phone Today’s cell phones are extremely different from the first one invented. They have improved in many, many ways. Cell Phones today weigh about 3 ounces when the first “brick like” cell phone weighed about 30 ounces! The “iPhone series” are one of the most popular cell phones. Did you know that in 2012, Apple sold about 34,000 iPhones per day? Apple’s iPhone has higher sales than everything Microsoft has to offer!

Conclusion In conclusion, we can easily see that cell phones have changed in many ways and have made amazing improvements. There have been changes in the size, abilities, weight and the way it looks.

Injustice 1 ps3 What’s your favorite character? By: Taylor H. The game InJustice is a good vs. evil game that is on the Ps3. This game was based on different characters and their surroundings. There are a lot of different Characters, both good and bad. This game is a batman type scenario. It’s a really entertaining game.

Characters The best character in my opinion would have to be Superman. “The most common character is Batman. He is used 19.3% of the time. He is used 859 times a day around the world,” claims Eventhubs. I played the game 121 times in one day, I played Superman each time. I won 97 out of 121 times. There is not one character that is neither bad nor good.

Super Moves Each character has their own Super Move. Their super moves help them gain extra points and causes the other players lose points. Some characters have really good super moves, and some characters don’t. I think the characters with the best super move are Joker and Deathstroke.

Good vs. Evil The game has good guys and bad guys. Most people pick one good guy and one bad guy, but you don’t have too. You can pick whomever you want to pick. They’re all characters in a game but you can pretend to be them when you play them.

The characters are: Superman, Zanata, Batman, Scorpion, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Nightwing, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Raven, Lobo, Martian Manhunter, Zod, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Joker, Solomon Grundy, Black Atom, Killer Frost, Bane, Lex Luthor, Cyborg, Ares, Doomsday, Lobo, Batgirl, Catwoman, Shazam, Aquaman, Sinestro, Hawkgirl

Cheats - Press the bottom two buttons on the controller to get your super move. - When you go to pick a character press the triangle button on the controller chose. - When you go to pick a background if you have two players the player two presses the square button on the controller and it will allow the second player to pick a scene too. - The players that you pick give certain moves, if you press the down button and the X button -The character will give a certain power that makes the other player lose a bunch of points.

Air Jordan Project The best Air Jordan Shoes By: Luke H. The Air Jordan line of shoes has been one of the most popular selling brands of tennis shoes. Today I'm telling you a little bit about the top 3 Air Jordan’s of all time. I will tell you about the history, traction, cushion, material and fit, ventilation, and support. With this information you will be able to tell if the Air Jordan’s are right for you. #3 Air Jordan IV The Air Jordan IV’s were released in 1989, the year Michael Jordan won multiple awards. The traction on these shoes was very good from front to back, it has good patterns that that grip the floor well. Just make sure on dusty floors to keep wiping them off. The cushion is hard at first but they take time for them to break in, they will be better after you break them in. The airbag in the heel and in the forefoot help though. The material and fit is good. It uses soft leather but is very durable. You will probably get a few scuffs here and there, but you can wipe them off. The fit is very good. The lockdown is amazing. It really keeps your foot in place. There is not much support, so you will have to tie them tight just to make the support even okay. #2 Air Jordan III These shoes came out in 1988 when Michael Jordan received his first MVP award. With this shoe, he crushed the competition in the slam dunk contest, and led the Bulls to their best results since the 1974-75 season. The traction on these shoes is pretty good. They are a flat surface so it grips the floor well. The cushion is not amazing. There is a lot of cracking where the cushion should be. They are very boot-like, and they don't compress very well, but it works. The material is very good. It is flexible and does do go under a lot of pressure on the shoe. It is pretty durable, so it does not get a lot of scuffs. The ventilation doesn't have much air flow in them, just some air holes in the tongue. The support is great on these shoes. They have a great lockdown on your foot that really keeps your foot in place. #1 Air Jordan 1 These first came out in 1985 when Jordan first started playing for the Bulls. The traction on these shoes are so amazing, 100% perfect from toe to heel. They have lot of texture to help grip the floor. There isn’t any slipping at all and they work great for indoor or outdoor. For cushion, there is air in the heel and in the forefoot. Your feet might get sore fast, so you could easily get some cheap in-souls for them. The material and fit is pretty simple. It’s very durable, for the most part it keeps its shape

while playing, and it doesn’t collapse in or anything. There is not much ventilation in this shoe, just some air holes for your toes. These shoes are very low to the ground so you can really feel the ground when your foot hits it. There is not much support in your mid foot area, but a cheap in-soul could easily fix that. Conclusion These are all very good shoes. The Air Jordan IV’s are third, the Air Jordan III are second, and the Air Jordan 1’s are the best out of all the Air Jordan’s.

3 cool facts about Air Jordan 1. Michael Jordan was a huge Adidas fan growing up. 2. The first pair of Jordan’s were priced at 65$. 3. The first Air Jordan logo was not the famous Jordan logo.

By: Caleb I. Have you ever wanted a good review in a magazine about the Madden 25 video game? Well now, you can get a nice one. Let’s start with the cover. Barry Sanders, a former Detroit Lions player, was voted to be the player on the game cover. Now back to the game, the game can do many things. For instance, it has many game modes, and tons of settings.

Player of the year The NFL says that DeAngelo Williams made the player of the year (not the MVP) with the Carolina Panthers. The video game has Williams is one of the better players in a game of football. So DeAngelo Williams is probably one of the good players to use because of his valuable rewardthe best player comeback awardthis year gives him high madden 89ratings. In the game you can play a regular game of football with most of the players looking how they do to look in real life. Other successful players earned their own awards for possible records broken and they’re great

players to use as well. Let’s name them off: DeAngelo Williams, DeSean Jackson, Peyton Manning, Richard Sherman, Mark Sanchez, Percy Harvin, Calvin Johnson, and Robert Mathias. Those players would be the best to start out with if you’ve never played this game before. The official MVP winner was Peyton Manning. He almost lost to Russell Wilson. The purpose of updates The rosters in Madden 25 change throughout your regular madden season. For example Geno Smith (#7) became the first string quarterback for the New York Jets and replaced Mark Sanchez (#6) as the starter. Then, your Madden rosters would automatically change if you wanted an auto-update.

Conclusion Like I said, the Madden 25 video game, has many settings, and it has lots of good things about it, Multiplayer, settings, and much more! The MVP, records to break, and many seasons to be played. If I were you I’d start right now, because the fun can never end. Not with football. And not with Madden 25!

Madden Quick Stats Geno Smith threw for 3,033 passing yards, Reggie Bush ran for 1,003 yards, and DeSean Jackson grabbed 1,332 receiving yards. These stats won awards. Lots of awards. Reggie Bush is one of the Lions best running backs currently. You can also create your own personal players! There’s a program on the Internet that you can also create a face so a player may look like you! The online resource/program is called gameface.nfl.com.

HALEY WLLIAMS CROWNED MISS MICHIGAN 2013 She’s Not Just a Pretty Face! By Chloe I. In June 2013, Haley Williams was crowned Miss Michigan. It was the beginning of a new journey. Many people look up to Haley Williams. She wasn’t just handed the crown she earned it. She worked hard to be Miss Michigan. One of the things that were a struggle to do is be in shape. I know that Haley had to start eating food that was healthy. The challenges she had to go through paid off in the end. Childhood Haley lost her father to a heart attack at a very young age. She struggled with her emotions and the lingering effects of grief for years. She started twirling at a young age. Not having her father there for twirling competitions was a struggle for Haley. And had an impact on her performance. Pageants Haley has competed in nine pageants and has won four of them. Haley has won Miss Michigan Outstanding teen 2009, Michigan Distinguished Young Women 2011, Miss Saginaw County 2013, and of course Miss Michigan 2013. The five that Haley has competed in is Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2009, Distinguished Young Women of America 2011, Miss Spirit of the State, and Miss Lighthouse Coast. Overcoming these loses, only made winning Miss Michigan that much better. Miss America Organization The Miss America Organization has been the number one scholarship provider for girls since 1921. To be a contestant, you first have to start at a local pageant, which is your city or county. If you win a local, you go on to the state pageant. If you win your state pageant, like Haley did, you then go to Atlantic City, New Jersey and compete in Miss America.

Conclusion When looking at the Miss Michigan crown, you’ll notice it has four points. Each one stands for a different quality the girl who will wear it must have. The four points of the crown are style, service, scholarship, and success. Style stands for the individuality one must hold. Service promotes getting involved with your community and local charity. Scholarship represents the fact that the Miss America Organization is the leading Scholarship “giver” in the U.S. Lastly, Success stands for what one must accomplish in her year of region. Haley was able to earn herself the crown by demonstrating these four traits of life.

The Maze Runner Vs. The Hunger Games Which one is better? By: Kai J. The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner are both good books, but which one is better? This review might help you decide for yourself. According to Amazon, The Maze Runner was published October 6, 2009 and The Hunger Games was published September 1, 2009. This review has information about the two main characters of each book and has the names of most of the characters throughout the book. It also has information about the story lines and more.

The Hunger Games Katniss Everdeen is the main character from district 12 who volunteers as a tribute to The Hunger Games for her little sister, Prim, who was going to be sent into the arena to fight and to kill to stay alive. Prim is only 12 years old. Along with Peeta Mellark, a boy that’s also from district 12, Katniss goes to the capitol to be trained to go into the arena, where she will fight to the death along with 23 other people. There are 13 districts that are known to them, but there are only 12 districts still standing. The Hunger Games is supposed to send a message that the Capitol can, and will, destroy their district, if they rebel against them like district 13 did. When Katniss into the arena she

Katniss After losing her father to a mine explosion, Katniss had to take care of her little sister and her mother, who went into a state of shock after the explosion. Her district is district 12, the coal/mining district and is not the best district there is. There’s a lot of poverty. Katniss and her family live poorly, with not enough food to eat ever, and living in an old house that is not in the best shape. Katniss’s father taught her everything she needed to know to provide her family with food and clothing. She learned to hunt with a bow and arrow made by her father. Her best friend, Gale, helps her hunt. Her hunting is the only thing keeping them from starving to death, and the meat she pulls in can sometimes be sold at the black market. Then, she has money to buy other items that may be needed. When Katniss volunteers as tribute to the Hunger Games for her little sister, she has to make sure that her mom will take care of her while Katniss is gone and not go into a state of shock and pretty much abandon them as she did last time.

hopes to survive it for her little sister. If she does win, her district will get a supply of food each month for a year. Each district must send one boy and one girl to go into the arena with an optional token where only one person will come out alive. The Hunger Games Characters In the book The Hunger Games, there are 24 tributes, 2 from each district that are part of the characters. Also, Katniss’s family, friends, and enemies are also part of the more important characters. Tributes: District 1- Glimmer, Marvel Thomas District 2- Clove, Cato From what the book said, District 3-4- Unknown Thomas was given up District 5- Foxface, Unknown because his mother District 6-10- Unknown thought he could help save District 11- Rue, Thresh the world. The Flare was a District 12- Katniss, Peeta sickness that happened Katniss’s Friends and Family: after the sun flares and Peeta Mellark, Gale Hawthorne, Primrose (Prim) created by who knows Everdeen, Haymitch Abernathy, Cinna, Katniss’s what. It took out most of mom, and Rue. the population and continued to. Thomas was given up to help find a cure for the sickness. They thought he was immune, so when W.I.C.K.E.D (World In Catastrophe Killzone Experiment Department) took him to study him to see how/what he does that makes him immune or if its his DNA.

Although Katniss gains new friends while in the arena, she loses some also. Her actions in the games are what cause her to gain friends and to lose friends.

The Maze Runner Thomas is the main character of The Maze Runner. He has no memory of who he is or who he was except his name when he gets sent up to The Glade in a box that seemed to move up forever. When he reaches The Glade in the box, there are several kids who all seem very different. One kid is asked to give him a tour, where he finds out about the maze. The maze is a very dangerous place if you get stuck there at night. There are things called Grievers. They will kill you if you get stuck in the maze overnight. There is a very slim chance that whoever is stuck there will avoid it. If they ever find a way to get through the maze, they will most likely be able to finally go home. The people who run through it everyday are called Runners. Thomas knows he wants to be a Runner, but the Gladers run a pretty tight ship and they can’t have the Newbie doing something that only the most skilled are allowed to do.

The Maze Runner Characters Thomas remembers no one from his past life but meets new people and finds new friends after being in The Glade for a while. All the characters that are listed below have some role they play in the book that may be of some importance. People from The Glade: Thomas, Alby, Newt, Chuck, Ben, Gally, Frypan, Clint, Jeff, Winston, Minho, Zart, and Teresa. Others: Ava Paige In the list of gladers, none of them have last names because none of them remember anything. They were sent up to the glade without memories of who they are or what sort of life they lived. Conclusion Overall, they are both pretty good books that are rated 4.5 stars according to Amazon and hopefully, you’ve either read them already, or you plan to read them. Also, maybe if you haven’t done either, this will help you decide if you want to read them. The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner are both fantastic books. Hopefully, I have helped you make a decision.

The History of Football By Colton J. The Start of Football The sport of football started in the 20th century. There were games, but never had playoffs or the final game that we know as the Super Bowl. The first Super Bowl was in 1967 with the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Green Bay won and they were the first Super Bowl champions. Equipment The equipment was very bad in the 1900’s. They used leather for pants, and then heavier leather for shoulder pads. They started to get heavy plastic helmets and then added the face masks. The football they used was made out of actual pigskin. The Teams There are thirty-two teams in the National Football League. There are sixteen teams in the NFC and the AFC. All the teams get ranked every year. AFC and NFC get broke down to the west side and, east side, north side and south side. The Players Back in the day, there were a ton of great players like Joe Montana, Steve Young, Joe Namath, Marion Motley, Paul Warfield, Bobby Bell, Willie Brown, Mike Ditka, John Elway, and Steve Van Buren. The Game Today All of these things made football what it is today. For example, many of the plays used in games today are created and named after all the historical information found. Football brings several different kinds of people together because they share the same passion for the game. The Beginning of

The History of One of The Most Loved Brands In The World By: Jamie K.

Have you ever wanted to know more about Nike? Well then keep reading this article. Nike was created by two men by the names of Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. They wanted to create a better track shoe and eventually, the compny became Nike.

Who And Why? Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight created Nike but it wasn't always Nike.

First of all, Nike was originally created to make a better track shoe. They partnered with Tiger Shoes to keep innovating and trying to prove that a Japanese shoe company is just as good as a better established German company. After a partnership with Tiger

Shoes, they became Nike.

Where And How? Nike began in Eugene Oregonthe home of the University of Oregon. It was created by Oregon’s Track and field coach, Bill Bowerman and, Phil Knight, a respected middle distance runner from Portland Oregon. They wanted to innovate and explore with things such as rehydration drinks, and most importantly running shoes. In 1959 they partnered with tiger shoes, but in 1970 they became Nike.

Nike’s First Nike’s first shoe one of the best shoes during its time. It was made of very thin materials and had almost no sole at all. The treads on the shoe were based on Bill Bowerman’s waffle design. The shoe was specifically made for middle or short distance running.

In The End In the end, Nike has been through a lot as a company. According to Nike.com, Nike broke the law by overworking kids that were too young to work at all. But at the same time they help the world in a lot of ways. They have a charity named The Girl Effect. It only helps girls but it isn’t a bad program at all because it helps girls realize all of the potential that they have. Overall Nike has been a great company from the start.

SIX FACTS ABOUT NIKE FROM

thesneakerthirst.com 1. Phil Knight started selling his shoes at track meets 2. At first Phil didn’t like the name Nike 3. Phil Knight used his wife's waffle iron to create the tread on the first shoes that he made 4. Phil considers Air Jordans to be “a brand inside a brand” 5. Phil’s son died in a scuba diving accident in the year of 2004 6. Phil’s biggest influential person to him was Bill Bowerman, his former track coach

Clash of the Smartphones What is the Top Smartphone? By CJ Kraft There have been many debates over the best smartphone. People all have different opinions. I have taken the time to review and score 7 of the best smartphones, and I will show you the full results of the top 3. I will also show the final standings. So lets dive into the best smartphones.

3. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 - Score: 82.00 The Galaxy S4 was a successful addition to the Galaxy series. Lots of people believe this to be Samsungs best phone yet. It has one of the best displays on a phone with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, and an incredible 441 ppi. It has a fast processor, and it’s good for multitasking. You can do/watch 2 things at once. It’s a great phone to have.

2. LG’s LG G2 - Score: 82.50 This is, in my opinion, the most wellrounded phone on the market. What I mean by that is it doesn’t have any weak points. It has a beautiful display with a 1080 x 1920pixel resolution, and a 423 ppi picture. It’s an amazing phone, definitely one of LG’s best.

1. Apple’s iPhone 5s - Score: 85.50 It’s not a huge surprise that this is the top of the list. With a great chip/processor like the A7 + M7 coprocessor, its the only phone with a 64-bit chip. It also leads in security with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, and a good display with a 326 ppi (pixels per inch) screen. It’s an overall great smartphone.

What do kids think is the best smartphone? I surveyed 11 kids, ages 11-12, to see what there favorite smartphone is. It was the iPhone 5s. It got 4 votes. The iPhone 5c, Galaxy S4, and the iPhone 5 each got 3 votes. The Windows 7 phone got 1 vote. It seems like kids also like the top smartphone.

The Facts About Communication Breathe, Sleep, Communicate! By: Abbey L. Imagine this; you are in a classroom that is full of students. You see some students chatting in the corner, but you can’t tell what they are saying. On the other side of the classroom you see two students waving to each other. Then you see a student write something down on a small piece of paper and then pass it to another student. These are all forms of communication. We communicate more than we sleep and sometimes more than we breathe. Most people don’t realize how much they communicate everyday. Oral Communication Workplace Education Manitoba defines Oral Communication as the ability to talk with others, to give and exchange information & ideas such as ask questions, give directions, coordinates, work tasks, explain and persuade. We use this type of communication a lot in everyday situations. According to Studymode,’’ Oral communication is the most common form of communication.” When we talk to each other we use this type of communication.

Written Communication “Written communication is communication by means of written symbols,” states Dictionary.com. We use this type of communication when we write letters or notes. We may not be talking to each other but we are still communicating. This is an easy way to communicate without having to be next to the person. Non-Verbal Communication Non-verbal communication is communication that uses body language and tone in your voice. We use this type of communication to express emotion. When we are happy we may jump up and down. This is an example of body language. When we are angry we may raise our voice. This is an example of changing the tone in your voice. We use this type of communication everyday.

Conclusion Each of these ways of communication helps us speak to each other, have long distant conversations, and express our feelings. Without communication we wouldn’t be able to do the many things we do today. Communication helps us get to the places we are today.

Other Types of Communication • • •

Intrapersonal Communication- Intrapersonal communication is communicating with one’s self that is any form of relaying messages to your own person. Technological Communication – is a broad field and includes any form of communication that shows specialized topics, applications, procedure, and regulations. Participatory Communication – People often have very different visions and definitions of participation in development. Therefore for development practitioners to be clear on their conceptual, approach to participation, a series of important questions have to be answered. Mediated Communication - mediated communication, is any communication interaction using technology as the primary channel. The two common types of mediated communication— mass communication and computer-mediated communication— inform, entertain, persuade, and provide a means for connecting people.

Facts About Communication • • • •

You must hear something three times in order to remember it 7% of communication is what you say, 38% is how you say stuff, and 55% is body movements. 93% of communication is non-verbal When hearing a contradictive message we have the tendency to believe the non-verbal hints given.

By: Savannah M. Do you know when or how ballet started? Do you know who invented it? Do you know how ballet came to America? Do you know who the most famous ballet choreographer is? Well, if you don’t know the answers to some, or all of these questions, you’re about to find out. The History of Ballet The French and the Russians between the fifteenth and sixteenth century invented ballet. George Balanchine was the founder of ballet. He brought ballet to America and started his own New York City Ballet Company. Tchaikovsky was the most famous ballet choreographer there was. Tchaikovsky was born on May 7th, 1840 and died on November 6th, 1893. The Most Famous Ballet Dance The Nutcracker is the most famous ballet dance. Tchaikovsky founded

and wrote the Nutcracker. One day, Tchaikovsky was writing to a friend about a story called the Nutcracker. Once his friend got the letter, he made a dance out of the story Tchaikovsky wrote him. Once Tchaikovsky wrote the music for the Nutcracker, the dance instructor began to choreograph. When everybody saw the amazing dance, it became famous around the United States of America. Dancers Sole The ballet shoe or ballet slipper is a lightweight shoe designed specifically for ballet dancing. “It is made from soft

leather, canvas, or satin, and has flexible, and thin soles”, says Discount Dance. The Pointe shoe is a type of shoe worn by ballet dancers when performing Pointe work. A Pointe shoe developed from the desire for dancers to appear weightless and has evolved to enable dancers to dance en Pointe (on the tips of their toes) for extended periods of time.

Tying it up In conclusion, I think that ballet is a beautiful type of dance. I also believe that Tchaikovsky was the best dance instructor in the world because of his amazing work on the Nutcracker. When I grow up I want to be a dancer, but I know I might not achieve that goal, so I am going to try to achieve my other goal. My other goal is to try my best to get a scholarship.

Ballet Facts: • Women were not allowed to dance in public until 1681. • During a ballet, a male dancer can lift over one and a half tons worth of ballerinas! Jackie Robinson The Legend of 42 By: Noah Nelson

Jackie Robinson didn’t just stand up to everybody who played and watched baseball; he stood up to the world. To be the first African American to play in the Major Leagues, it wasn’t easy. The MLB was for all whites, but there was a Negro League for African Americans. Jackie Robinson changed baseball, and also helped change the world.

The Man Who Shattered the Color Barrier Jackie Robinson was super brave, braver than most people. He had the guts to shatter the color barrier. Before Jackie Robinson the MLB was only for whites, at the time Jackie Robinson was the only African American in the MLB. After Jackie the Negro league and the MLB combined. According to BBref.com Jackie Robinson was 5’11” and weighed 195 pounds. He played first, second, and third. Also he won a lot of awards, including MVP. He was a beast.

His Background According to multiple resources, Jackie Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia. His full name was Jackie Roosevelt Robinson. He went to Pasadena Junior College and then went to UCLA. He played baseball, basketball, and football. He was born on January 31,1919. He was the youngest of five children in his family. Also he served in the army, and when he was done in 1944 he started playing baseball professionally.

His Career According to Biography.com, around 1944 Branch Rickey, president of the Brooklyn Dodgers (an all white team) chose him to play on his minor league team the Montreal Royals. In 1947 he played his first major league game for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Fans were angry! So where players, even his teammates were mad. But that didn't stop Jackie, neither did pitchers hitting him in the head when he was up to bat, and they didn’t even have helmets back then.

After His Career After Jackie Robinson retired, he was later elected into the hall of fame. He was only 53 when he died from a heart attack, on October 24, 1972. There’s a difference between a hero and a legend, a hero is never forgotten but a legend never dies, Jackie Robinson was a legend.

GoPro 3+ Review This Amazing Small, Lightweight Camera By Nick P. Do you want to know what awesomeness is? It’s the gopro 3+. The gopro 3+ is an awesome, compact camera. It gives you the ability of snapping on the camera to yourself and recording what you're doing without holding it. I am going to be going over the basics of this revolutionary camera. The Creator The founder of the gopro 3+ was Nick Woodman. “ I was in Australia surf boarding and I wanted to take good pictures of me, and then I looked into making a camera. Then I created the gopro.” according to the creator himself, Nick Woodman. Nick is a 38 year old man who loves to surf board and do stuff with his family. Nick has two children and a wife. They live in Woodside California according to shop blocker.

The gopro remote is a small remote that can control the gopro from a 40 ft. radius. it has 2 buttons, and can have full control over the gopro.

Pros and Cons Pros, It has great picture quality,it has up to 30 frames per second. It also has WiFi built in to it, so then you can connect your phone to the gopro 3+, and you can use your phone as a remote, and download the videos you took to your phone. Also it is waterproof up to 197 feet (60 meters) in any kind of waters, says the gopro website. Cons, for the cons, there is not many of them but it does not perform good in dark environments. And it has a fuzzy sounding microphone. That was all the cons I could find. The Design It is a very light weight camera, only weighing 2.6 oz. It is also a very small, it is 2 ⅓ by 1 ½ inches. It has a charging slot on the right side, right next to the slot is where the sd card goes. A sd card is the storage of the device, which holds the pictures and videos. This is a picture taken by a gopro.

Conclusion In my review, I covered the basics, like the pros and cons, the design, and the creator. Hopefully this was helpful for you. If you are wondering if you should buy the gopro 3+, I say yes. I rate the go pro 4.8 out of 5 stars.

The allest Man Ever The “Giant” By Erin R. Imagine being as tall as a doorway. No….even bigger! Imagine if you had to bend down to go through the opening. Imagine being so famous that tens of thousands of people attended your funeral. What if you were two times the size of your Mom and Dad? This is life through Robert Wadlow’s eyes. Welcome to his “giant” years! Tall man, short life This 8 foot 11 inch man continued to grow as an adult due to hyperplasia of his pituitary gland, which results in an abnormally high amount of human growth hormone. Sad as it is, he died at age twenty-two! How do you think this happened? It wasn’t because he was too tall, he died because he had poor circulation didn’t know blisters had developed on his foot. During a parade he got an infection, and he suffered from a one hundred six degree fever. He died in his sleep.

Famous for two things! Did you know that Robert Wadlow isn’t just the tallest man ever? He was also the tallest Boy Scout when he was thirteen! He was seven humungous feet! Most of the tallest basketball players are seven foot, but they’re in college! That explains why he had custom shoes that were size 37! And he had a coffin size that was about 10 feet! So many nicknames! Robert was rewarded with many nicknames like “Giant Boy” (I think you can figure out why he was called that). “Alton Giant” (because of his Alton, Illinois hometown) also “Gentle Giant” for being so quiet. No wonder he was called those names since he had to remove the passenger seat so he could fit in the back seat!

Standing Tall ‘Til the End Being able to touch the ceiling without going on your tiptoes, Robert had a short yet tall life. Being famous for two things and having many nicknames must’ve been an interesting one, too. He was above average for weight, height, for everything! They must mistake him for a giant! This 439 lbs man is definitely extraordinary!

Tallest Woman Ever Zeng Jinlian was the tallest woman ever. She died at a very young age which was 17 in Hunan, China. She was 8 feet, 3 inches. Unfortunately, she couldn’t stand up because she had a severely deformed spine. She was the tallest female ever recorded in medical history, taking Jane Bufords record. Zeng was the only female counted among the 16 individuals in medical history who reached 8 feet or more Facts *Pershing was Robert’s middle name *He had shown no sign of stopping his growth when he died *He worked for a shoe company that gave him free shoes *His shoes cost $100.00 then, but would be $1,500.00 today! *Funeral was on July 19 *Graduated from Alton High School and went to Shurtleff College *He had the only growth problem in his family of six Text sources: The Giant Website: http://www.thetallestman.com IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905594/ AltonWeb: http://www.altonweb.com/history/wadlow/ Crack Two: http://www.cracktwo.com/2012/05/robert-pershingwadlow-gentle-giant-and.html Graphic sources: Crack Two: http://www.cracktwo.com/2012/05/robert-pershing-wadlow-gentle-giant-and.html The Giant Website: http://www.thetallestman.com History Rundown: http://www.historyrundown.com/5-largest-giants-in-history/

The

Shortest

Man In the World

Life in this Man’s Little Shoes

How tall are you? Well, you are probably taller than this 74-year-old man. Chandra Bahadur Dangi is a 74-year-old Nepalese man. He is 1 foot and 9 inches tall. The reason he is so small is because he has a rare case of dwarfism called primordial dwarfism. Primordial dwarfism results in smaller body size in all stages of life, beginning before birth. None of Chandra’s siblings have this disease. How Low Can You Go? The average height of a man, worldwide, is around 5 foot and 8 inches. Chandra is about ⅓ of an average sized man. Can you imagine looking through the children’s section at a store for your own clothes especially if you were Chandra’s age, [74]? Chandra takes care of his village’s goats. The goats are around 2.5 feet tall. He isn’t even 2 foot tall. That would be kind of scary walking around with big animals. And add the fact that they have the instinct, when they feel threatened to smash you with their horns. Ouch! Short Points About Being Short If you didn’t know, people with primordial dwarfism aren’t expected to live beyond 30. Well, as you know, Chandra has already lived past that age. He’s already beat two of the odds. Another, not so good thing about being short is that you have very little strength in your arms and legs and you have short limbs. Therefore you can’t drive a car.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better I have just told you most of the bad things about being super short. But what about the positive side of things? Imagine how easy it would be to play hide-and-go-seek! Ok so lets be realistic, think of all the jobs that require crouching in small spaces and crawling through pipes for regular sized people. Chandra, instead of crawling, could walk, and rather than crouching he could just stand. Being short could actually be helpful in some situations. In Short Looking back, you can see that there are more bad things about being short, than good. That tells you how hard it must be for people that are short. Don’t take for granted because some people do have it worse that you do. The Perfect Pekingese The Ancient Guard Dogs By: Kadence S. You’re probably wondering what a Pekingese is, well you’re in luck, because I’m here to teach you a little bit about these adorable dogs from China. Death Sentence! For centuries the Pekingese was worshipped in the temples of China, and was custom for the emperor to select four ‘Pekes’ who were to become his bodyguards. Two of the four Pekingese would bark to announce their leaders entrance and the other two would hold the ends of the leader’s royal gown. If anyone were to steal or injure a Peke, they would be sentenced to death. The Lion Dog Is it a lion or a pup? Back then Pekingese were known as ’lion dogs’, not only because of their lion mane - like coat, but because of their fierce lion personality. These dogs weren’t just used as guard dogs in the empire. Pekingese were also portable, human heaters. The emperors used to carry the dogs in the huge sleeves of their robes. Today’s Pekingese Pekingese in these modern days are known to be cute, fluffy dogs. Though they are rare to come across in America, normal citizens like us would’ve had to bow down to them back then. But just like every other dog they still need care. Since they have very, thick fur, the Pekingese will need brushing daily and shampooing/bathing regularly or their fur will get matted. Pekingese have short, bowed legs, which means these dogs aren’t the sort of dogs who will be out in the country or running in the woods. An apartment would be a fine for a Pekingese, although they would still need daily walk. Training a Pekingese may be tough because of their stubborn personality, and don’t hold your breath when you call their names to come! Next is health, Pekingese have a high risk of breathing and heart issues. Congestive heart failure is the leading cause of death to Pekingese. As for a good family, a Pekingese is better off with an older family. A family with young children isn’t recommended because the Pekingese wants to be the baby of the house and needs lots of attention.

Conclusion To wrap it up, Pekingese are a huge part of Chinese history and needs lots of care but is very independent at times. Below are the following care the Pekingese need.

• • • • •

Home: Apartment living is fine. Health: Breathing and Heart issues Care: Brush daily Training: Difficult Family: Best with older families. Fun Pekingese Facts • There is a legend that the Pekingese is a product of a lion who fell in love with a little monkey which then resulted into a Pekingese. • Pekingese are one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. • 1 Pekingese survived the titanic.

Who’s Healthier? Wendy’s, McDonald’s or Burger King – Who Has The Healthiest Food? By Emma S.

H

ave you ever eaten fast food? Of course you have. But have you ever wondered if Wendy’s,

McDonald’s, or Burger King has the healthiest cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, and French fries? I was interested in finding out the nutritional facts about these three foods to see what the healthiest choices would be.

“It’s Better Here”

The first place I researched was Wendy’s website. I wanted to know the calories in their cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, and fries. According to Wendy’s, their cheeseburger contains 290 calories. Also, their chicken nuggets contain 180 calories. Lastly, their fries contain 220 calories.

“I’m Lovin’ It” The second website I researched was McDonald’s. Their cheeseburger contains 300 calories. Also, their chicken nuggets contain 190 calories. Lastly, their fries contain 230 calories, claims McDonald’s.

“Have it Your Way”

The last website I researched was Burger King. Burger King states, their cheeseburger contains 270 calories. Also, their chicken nuggets contain 190 calories. Lastly, their fries contain 240 calories.

Conclusion In conclusion, I compared the different company’s food by calories. Burger King had the least number of calories in their cheeseburger. Wendy’s had the smallest amount of calories in their chicken nuggets and fries. McDonald’s did not have the least amount of calories in any of the items I researched. So, if you are looking to grab a cheeseburger go to Burger King. But, if you are looking to get some chicken nuggets or fries, go to Wendy’s. If you want to get any of those three items, keep in mind, McDonald’s is the unhealthiest for you.

AVOID THESE THREE INCREDIBLY UNHEALTHY CHOICES! Wendy’s ¾ Triple Cheeseburger 1,060 calories 67 grams of fat

McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder 750 calories 43 grams of fat

Burger King Triple Whopper 1,230 calories 82 grams of fat

Bump, Set, Spike The History of the Volleyball You’ve probably heard of volleyball, but do you know who invented it? Do you know what the first volleyball was like? Do you know what it’s made of? The volleyball is one of the most unusual pieces of equipment in sports. Who invented it? William G. Morgan was the inventor of the volleyball. He was born in 1870 in Crockpot, New York. It was during summer he moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts. That is where he made the volleyball in 1895. He was inspired by basketball, but he wanted to make a less violent sport, so he made, Volleyball. Sadly he died in 1942. What is Volleyball? The Volleyball is like a squishy ball, unlike the basketball, so when you hit it, it won’t hurt. The diameter of the volleyball is between 25.6-26.4 inches. It is 9-10 ounces. Its air pressure is between 25-½ and 26-½ pounds. In circumference it is 8.5 inches.

The First Volleyball Volleyball started in a town called Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1895. The first volleyball was made of materials very similar to today’s volleyball. The innermost part of the volleyball is the rubber bladder, which then is covered in a cloth material. Then there is the outer layer, which can be made of various padded materials. Today’s Volleyball Today’s volleyball is made of the same materials as the first volleyball. Now we also play volleyball for some schools, some people even play competitive volleyball in the Olympics. Today’s volleyballs, like the Wilson volleyball, costs about $10-15 dollars. If you get a very good and very serious volleyball that would cost about $55 dollars. If you get a really special volleyball like the squishy ones they would cost about $158 dollars.

Fun Facts About the Volleyball The first world championships were held in 1949 for men and 1952 for women. Volleyball was introduced to the Olympics in 1964. Most volleyball players jump about 300 times a match. Some of the volleyballs characteristics came from handball and tennis. The first 2-man match was in 1930. The first special designed volleyball for the sport was created in 1900. Volleyball is the second most popular sport in the world today, exceeded only by soccer. The longest recorded volleyball game was in Kinston, North Carolina. It took 75 hours and 30 minutes.

The History and Present of the Labrador Imagine having a new Labrador Retriever but not knowing when or from where Labrador retrievers came from. Well, I am here to tell you when they came and where they came from. Also, a little bit about the present day Labrador Retriever History of the Labrador Retriever When Labrador Retrievers came into the world, they lived within Canada, in a province called Newfoundland. The original Labrador gradually died out on account of a heavy dog tax which, with the English quarantine law. Many labs were interbred with other types of retrievers, but luckily, the breed prevailed, and fanciers drew up a definitive standard. Accurate pedigrees of today’s labs go back as far as 1878. The lab was recognized as a distinct breed by the English Kennel Club in 1903. The first registration of Labradors, by the American Kennel Club, was in 1917. From the 1920s through the ‘30s, there was a great influx of British dogs that formed the backbone of the breed in this country. The Present In the 1900’s the British sportsman Colonel Hawker realized that Labrador retrievers are really good for hunting they spot the birds then pick them up and bring it back to the hunter. Also with their very thin legs they are extremely quick runners and swimmers. Along with their fighting their sense of smell is hardly to be credited. And that is what they do all day everyday they love the outside. Conclusion In conclusion, Labrador retrievers are nice, friendly, and great dogs. I know what its like because I have a Labrador retriever too. If you could get a dog I strongly urge you to think about getting a lab because of its past and present.

Inside the Brain Myths, Legends and Information About the Brain 10% Have you ever heard that a human uses 10% of the brain? Well, according to Phycology.com, that statement is full of crap. Humans use 100% of their brain, unless they have a brain injury. The rumor started in the 1900’s, when a group of people heard that scientists were not sure about much of the brain. This rumor is still spread today, and most, if not all humans have believed it, or still do. Most neuroscientists today don’t believe in that urban legend, but don’t have a lot of proof to go against it. So even in the 21st century, the myth lives on

Phineas Gage The story of Phineas Gage is probably the biggest step neuroscientists took into understanding more about the brain. In 1848, a man named Phineas was working on a railroad in Vermont. He was placing a mine with his tampering iron, when suddenly the mine exploded. His tampering iron was propelled through his head. He lived for almost a year after the incident, but he had changed dramatically.

One More Year The tampering iron that struck Phineas entered through his lower left cheek, and exited through the top of his skull. The tampering iron did damage to his zygomatic arch, his orbital bone, and the biggest wound of all was the big hole where the tampering iron had exited, hitting the top of his skull. It did damage to his frontal cortex, which had an impact on his personality, completely changing it. None of these injuries were vital for immediate death, but in long term, passing away was very likely.

Understanding More Before Phineas’s injury, Neuroscientists Only thought personality change could Happen through the prefrontal cortex, Not the frontal. Also, at the time, a brain Injury was thought to be an incurable disease. Now scientists know that there are three major Parts of the brain. The Cerebrum, which is the Biggest part of your brain, involves remembering, Thinking, problem solving, and feeling. Sitting below the cerebrum lies the Cerebellum. It controls your Coordination and balance. The brain stem connects Your brain to the spinal cord. It controls your breathing and heart rate. Conclusion The brain is still not 100% known. Scientists have yet to fully understand something as big as consciousness. Consciousness is why we are not zombies, or why we don’t blank out suddenly. In some opinions, it is the most outstanding aspect of the human brain. But if consciousness really is the greatest aspect of the brain, why don’t we understand it? There are theories, but there's no certain answer, and that might be a good thing.

Are you right or Left brained? 1. Circle the ear you use to listen through a door 2. Circle your stronger eye. To find your stronger eye, make a triangle with both thumbs and both pointer fingers. Focus on a light switch in between the triangle. Close each eye. Which ever one focuses better is your stronger eye. 3. Point at the hand you write with 4. Point at the foot you kick with 5. If you answer right to most of these your left brain. If you answered left to most of these, you’re right brained.

This game is competitive and fun. It’s in Minecraft. So here are the three best classes. An Explosion of a Lifetime The witherskeleton class is the overpowered class in the game. This class gets a bow that shoots exploding fireworks. The fireworks can one shot kill you. The class also gets a melee weapon that lights you on fire providing extra damage.
