Samsung gets innovative with the NX100 New camera uses mirrorless technology and an interactive lens

Samsung Electronics has launched a new mirrorless camera, the NX100, which uses an APS-C size sensor. APS-C cameras use a smaller area to form the image than traditional 35 mm cameras. The 14.6 Mega-pixel camera is equipped with an i-Function Lens that allows the user to control the picture they are taking directly through the lens. The camera comes with an array of lenses and accessories and also has Geo-tagging with an optional GPS Module (GPS10). "With the new NX100, Samsung has broken new grounds and surpassed industry expectations. Our unique and pioneering i-Function Lens is one example of Samsung's unparalleled innovation which will appeal to every photographer," said Ram Modak, general manager of the Digital Imaging Division of Samsung Gulf Electronics. The camera's i-Function Lenses interact directly with the camera body and provide customised settings for the lens being used. Users can toggle between shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO by using the i-Function button and ring on the lens. At the launch, the camera will come with a compact zoom 20-50mm lens; a 20mm wide-angle pancake lens will be launched shortly after. Two new specialised lenses will be released in the first half of 2011, a 60mm Macro lens and 18-200mm Super Zoom lens.

The launch of the 282g NX100 follows on from the of the NX10, Samsung's first mirrorless camera. The new NX100 shares much of the technology developed for the NX10, such as an APS-C size sensor and a 3 inch AMOLED. The NX100 now boasts a fast AF and an ISO that is raised to a maximum of 6400 for action shots from the NX10. The NX100 camera also has a creative feature called Smart Filter. Once a photo is taken, users can apply seven different effects to the picture, such as the vignette, soft focus, fisheye or miniature effects in playback mode.
