Next On Stage at the Grand Theatre
Rock of Ages- May 12-13, 18-21, 2023 (A Mainstage Production)
Book by Chris D’Arienzo, arrangements and orchestration by Ethan Popp. Presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace, and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips’ last legendary venues. Aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock 'n' roll fairy tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip – and themselves – before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer.

HISTORY OF MON RIVER ARTS YOUTH THEATRE
“A dream is a wish your heart makes” is a song from Cinderella that could sum up the children’s drama program at Mon River Arts. Executive Director Lori Kolodziej could only dream of a Children’s Drama Troupe years before she, and a group of dedicated parents and volunteers, were able to make it a reality.
This year marks the 16th anniversary of Children’s Theatre productions at the Grand Theatre. Back in the spring of 2007, Musical Theatre students at the Grand Theatre were looking for a way to continue their theatre experience, stay together as a group, and showcase their talents on a regular basis. In June of 2007 a group of 28 kids starred in their first production of Jungle Book. The success of that production was the initial formation of the Petite Players (Petite was chosen as a “play” on the theatre’s name Grand). The year 2010 saw the development of two Youth Drama programs and the introduction of Stagemasters (ages 14-18). Although the two groups have since been combined as one, Children’s Theatre is alive and well at Mon River Arts, thanks to continued support from parents, volunteers, and a dedicated staff.
One of the real benefits of the Children’s Theatre program is the opportunity to meet and act with kids from many different schools. The Beauty and the Beast, Jr. cast includes 40 elementary through high school students from the school districts of Belle Vernon, Brentwood, Clairton, Elizabeth Forward, Ringgold, Peters Township, South Allegheny, Westinghouse Arts Academy, West Jefferson Hills, as well as two Homeschooled students, and students from Cornerstone Christian Academy, and St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Schools.
What’s With The Song At The End Of All Children’s Theatre Shows?
The song “Family” from the show Dreamgirls has been a tradition since former Petite Player Director Richard Hinkleman first introduced it in 2008. It is a reminder to all program participants that once you enter the Grand Theatre, you become a part of a family that is much larger than your own– and a place where you always belong.
It is often sung with mixed emotions at the end of the show. But it is also sung in celebration and in praise, as it represents friendships that will last a lifetime for the actors who sing it.

A Note from Director Kayleigh Stultz,
Once upon a time, in the quaint borough of Elizabeth, PA there was a bustling performing arts organization known as Mon River Arts.....
MRA has provided me with several invaluable opportunities over the years; performing on stage, exploring technical theater, teaching studio classes and, now, DIRECTING!
I am thrilled to be back in my nurtured roots at MRA as director of this true “tale as old as time” Beauty and the Beast, JR. I have enjoyed each moment as I work alongside this talented production team and cast as we prepare our show.
Experiencing this cast form long-lasting friendships and watching each actor nurture and grow their own unique and spirited individuality throughout this process has filled me with so much joy and pride. I am honored to be a part of each of our young performer's journeys through the magic of theatre arts.
Our audiences are sure to be dazzled with this cast’s enchanting portrayal of the timeless and beloved characters as they musically invigorate the spirit while performing some of Disney’s greatest musical hits.
I express my deepest gratitude to all involved with this production. Your hard work and dedication have made this timeless story come to life on our stage as we proudly present Disney's, Beauty and the Beast, JR.
Tale As Old As Time,
Kayleigh Stultz (Director)
We are so proud of you. Best of luck to you and your cast members.
God Bless, Your Family
