A La Carte Desserts to Satisfy the Heart and Sweet Tooth

Embracing a New Chapter

Meet Mary, a nursing home retiree who found herself in a new chapter in life after the loss of her daughter. With a fond smile, she recalls her journey, “After my daughter passed, I moved out of her house and into this apartment. This is the first place I’ve lived in all alone since moving to Atlanta 5 years ago. I moved here to be closer to family.” Mary reflects on her time with her daughter, “Moving to Atlanta was the best thing to happen to me because my daughter would take me everywhere. We were always going places, like out to eat and just always doing something.”

Now, Mary’s days have changed, and she misses her daughter dearly, saying, “Now that she’s gone, I don’t go out much, and I don’t get to meet a lot of people. I miss my daughter — I miss her badly. She was such a sweetheart and she never met a stranger.” Mary’s voice brightens when she talks about Meals On Wheels Atlanta, “I’m so grateful for Meals On Wheels Atlanta. I love the food they serve, and it really helps me out a lot. I like the volunteers too — they are always so kind when they bring me my food.”

Finding Joy in Unexpected Places

Meet George, a spirited 78-year-old living alone in Atlanta. For him and his furry friend, Goldie, the holiday season used to be a reminder of his solitude. But that all changed when he became a meal recipient of Meals On Wheels Atlanta.

With a cheerful smile, George shares, “Meals On Wheels Atlanta brought joy to my doorstep along with the delicious meals. It’s not just about the food; it’s about the love and companionship they deliver. The volunteers brighten my day, and now, the holidays are a lot more enjoyable for me and Goldie. I’ve found joy in an unexpected place, thanks to the kindness from MOWA and their volunteers.”
