FOREWORD

MOViE MOViE Magazine has reached its 60th issue! Coincidentally, 1 November also marks my 12th year at MOViE MOViE. It has been my honor to build this niche art film movie channel from ground zero, along with opening three new cinemas, launching a streaming platform and even publishing our physical magazine MMM! Time truly flies! If the TV channel and streaming platform are my main projects, then this magazine has been the cherry on top.

At the same time, I cannot help but wonder, what have I achieved in all these years? How can MM do better? In MM’s early days, running a niche TV channel was considered a no-go. Well, ten years have passed, and we are still standing here. Though our efforts may seem to be in vain at times, the lessons we learned along the way have been worth every minute. I believe in pursuing quality, not quantity; I believe in bringing not the most, but only the best to our audience. Film is more than entertainment; it is a window to the world's most beautiful sights, and a mirror to our bright and dark sides.

With local print media disappearing, I once pondered whether to continue with MMM. After all, the daily operation of the movie channel and the curation of film festivals lie solely on the back of MM, a team no bigger than ten people. Despite having external support with our designs, the tasks of editing and logistics of MMM still lie with our team. Yet, as people dash into the virtual world, I find comfort in certain physical experiences, such as flipping through a magazine or stepping on the soft carpet of a cinema.

Still reminiscing our MOViE MOViE anifest closing film, Robot Dreams? Well, it’s time to look forward to our much-anticipated MOViE MOViE Life is Art Festival. Art fans and cinephiles, we are excited to see you at our cinemas and events.

一紀 ,在人生中亦不是一個短日子。感恩有緣被 委以重任 ,由零開始打造了一條主打藝術電影的 另類電視頻道 ,同時有份參與開了三間新戲院 、 OTT 的串流服務 ,甚至推出了實體雜誌 MOViE MOViE Magazine (MMM),今天竟然能一直做到 第 60 期 ! 假如電視頻道、串流平台和戲院是正 職 ,雜誌大概是副業吧 。對我來 ,也可以當作是 一個“bonus”吧 ! 這段日子我同時也會反思這 12 年做了什麽 呢 ? MM 怎樣可以做得更好呢 ? 猶記得開台的 時候被不少行內人看淡 ,認為做另類電影頻道是 死路一條 。在 11 年後 ,很高興說一句 ,We are still standing。即使有些事情可能徒勞無功又或不如 人意 ,但也真的力已盡 ,相信沒有白活 。在未來更 希望我和團隊要追求的不是量 ,而是在品質方面 精益求精 ,以更多好戲好生活觸動觀衆的心靈 。 因為對我來 ,電影不只是娛樂 ,老土的說是一 扇窗 ;對外可以讓我們看到世界更多的風景 ;對 內也可以看見人性的光輝美好又或軟弱無力 。 當香港紙媒一一消失 ,老實 我也不時想 MMM 是否該繼續下去 ,因為其實 MM 小隊不足 10 人 ,要處理日常頻道事務外 ,自家舉辦的電影 節也是同一班人擔當。那份雜誌雖有由第一期起 便拍住上的 Edited 外援設計 ,編輯及物流也是同 樣的 MM 小隊兼任 。當世界越來越趨數碼虛擬的 時候 ,我卻發現實體的東西更實在 ,譬如戲院又 或雜誌 ,老派的浪漫和執著似乎又不該輕言放棄。 在此也歡迎大家給予一些意見。未來如何不能確 定 ,但也望讀者朋友們珍惜仍能握在手的質感 、 氣味和溫暖 。 上週末剛以簡單而情深 、餘韻十足的 Robot Dreams 結束了 MOViE MOViE anifest 動畫藝術 祭 。在年尾壓軸還有招牌的 MOViE MOViE Life is Art 光影藝術祭 ,渴望能在戲院及其他活動場地 與大家真人見面 ,一起在電影中感受不同文化 、 藝術的精彩 !

When life gets a little too rough, I try to take a step back and look at my life from an outsider's perspective, as if I were watching a film. There is comfort in foreign detachment: it's easier to believe that there is an end to the tunnel, a way out of this mess, when I separate myself from my surroundings. And sometimes, it feels easier to root for myself when I don't actually feel like myself, although I don't think I would make a very likable character.

浪漫主義中,不時會見到人類與浩瀚無垠的大 自然對視 。大自然無邊無界

,遼闊無盡 ,無半點 在人類指縫可以控制防避,只能敬畏又害怕。因 Internship 加入 MM 後 ,更發現電影的世界又是 一片無盡的大汪洋,敬畏又害怕。人總是不怕死 的 ,就看跳進海裡他會把我漂到哪裡 。弱水三千 , 我信化成水就能無窮無盡 ,從印度恆河到希臘愛 琴海 ;從天上的浮雲去到凍檸茶的冰塊 。被喝盡 誰的喉嚨 ,又變成流出的血汗 ,總有一天可以流 到筆尖的墨水吧。電影與文學本應就是這麼無邊 無際的 。

等待放中秋假期間,忽爾發覺颱風把酷熱的夏 日也吹走了 ,秋意漸濃 ,遺下曬了一夏天的泳衣 印 ,伴我回想海水的味道 。記得在堅尼地看完《 日 麗 》,走出戲院後有股衝動往海傍去 、跳入海 ,游 往對面的無人小島 。

興許是大海有種吸引力 ,能沖過戲院的銀幕捲走 迷途的少年。城市是堅定而刻板的,唯獨海洋是 溫柔且殘酷的。不知在土耳其的海裏會有迷茫的 人的答案嗎 ? 而我在這躊躇 ,浮沉在工作和學業 中 。

After his successful debut, Director KIM endures scathing attacks from critics who call him a specialist in trashy dramas. After finishing his latest feature ‘Cobweb’, he has vivid dreams over several days of an alternative ending to the film. Sensing that if he can just shoot those scenes as he envisioned them, a masterpiece will surely emerge, he tries to arrange just two days of additional shooting. However, the rewritten script fails to pass censorship, and his actors can’t make sense of the new ending. Between the tangled schedule, the opposition of the producer, and the collision between these fantastic scenes dancing before his eyes and the harsh conditions of reality, Director KIM feels he is about to go insane, but he pushes on regardless…

很久不見 ,上次「 碰面 」是在戲院 ,十二年前了 ,

於百老滙電影中心放映我的得獎短片《1 + 1》。

我在黑暗的一角等待電影放映完畢 ,準備映後

座談會 。

燈一亮 ,我看到坐最前排的你 ,是可以握手的

距離 ,你跟我一樣嚇一跳 ,我來不及反應 ,十多年

不見 ,我還在思考真是你嗎 ? 你便急急離場 。那 是我自出生以來對你印象最深刻的一次 ,近距離 仍保持距離的一次 。

你應該是從媒體報道得知電影放映消息吧 ? 我 才驚醒原來你會從報章雜誌得知我的近況 ,也推 動我寫這封信的勇氣 。

那次以後 ,我有時會想像 ,如果我有電影上映, 我便會跟你再「 碰面 」。這個想像等了十二年 ,我 終於有作品公映了 ,竟然是在我生日後第一天公

映 ,是上天給我最好的生日禮物。我的生日是 10 月 18 日( 怕你忘了 ),若你會來「 謝票 」場次 ,又 想保持距離的話 ,記得不要選擇第一行

《4 拍 4 家族 》跟這封信一樣 ,是一套想你看到 也怕你看到的電影 ,因為我知道你一定會對戲裡 的父親角色對號入座。創作是自我解剖的過程, 我一定要面對 ,但也要保持適當距離 。你放心 ,《4 拍 4 家族 》也是寫給香港這個家 ,從短片《1 + 1》 到長片《4 拍 4 家族 》,家都是我的核心 。

「 每套電影有自己命運 」,作為《4 拍 4 家族 》編 劇 、導演 ,我像是親生父母 ,有責任做好每一個部 份 ,然後放手 。這亦絕不是一個人的功勞 ,好像夾 Band 一樣 ,我有一班很熱血的團隊 ,夾 Band 即 夾人 ,夾得好 ,就是一家人 ,此刻 ,我感到幸運 ,也

很快樂 ,希望你知道 。

「 光影創異 拾回樂軼 」: 第 20 屆香港亞洲電影節專訪

成立二十載的香港亞洲電影節 (HKAFF),一直將亞洲不同地區的 好戲帶到香港 ,並支持影壇中新晉 導演的作品 。在國際交通復常後 , 這次的影展更請來多位重量級的海 外嘉賓 ,不容錯過 !

MM 一個電影節能做 20 年實在不簡單,不如 先介紹一下電影節的主題? HKAFF 香港亞洲電影節今年踏入第二十年,我們 一直都在考慮第二十屆是否要回顧些甚 麼,或者應在甚麼位置繼續走下去。這兩 三年來,我們留意到周遭的環境發生了很 大的變化,在策劃電影節的時候亦經常思 考該做些甚麼去回應這些變化。後來我們 決定以「光影創異 拾回樂軼」作今年的主 題,因為相信電影在變幻莫測的處境中會 給予我們一些意想不到卻能夠予以新啟 發的體驗。

電影經常著眼於生活上看似微小的事 物,但這些往往都是讓我們找到安慰及動 力的地方。主題中「 創異 」寄意電影能夠 帶給我們很多不同的想像,而非局限於某 一種固定的價值觀當中,這是非常能夠代 表電影的一環。

MM 會有電影大使嗎? 今年的主視覺也很有 趣,可否解釋一下意念? HKAFF 今年我們邀請了鍾雪( 鍾雪瑩 )和阿冰 ( 吳冰 )作 HKAFF 的電影大使,兩位近來 在電影界越來越活躍,是非常值得期待的 新生代演員,而她們的活力亦很配合我們 電影節。主視覺亦配合了電影節的主題, 將 HKAFF 的標誌倒轉,一個懸浮在空中、 有如銀幕般通往異空間的通道,各種想像 從中走出來,象徵電影所帶給我們在生活 中未必能接觸到,但可以引領我們去新方 向的各種事物。縱使是未知之數,但其實 那份未知往往能帶來美好的東西。 MM 在今屆放映的作品中,有甚麼是觀眾不容 錯過的,又有甚麼嘉賓值得期待?

HKAFF 多年來,香港亞洲電影節放映了很多新的 港產片,而今年亦不例外。今年的開幕電 影《 白日之下 》和《 年少日記 》之前已在 海外影展大受好評,載譽歸來。閉幕電影 《 但願人長久 》及《 填詞 L》,以及隆重呈 獻的羅耀輝導演的新作《 望月 》,都是絕 對不容錯過的好戲。另外還有兩部本地紀 錄片《 香港四徑大步走 》和《 原來我是不 速客》,都很值得觀看。

過去幾年因疫情未能邀請海外影人親 身出席影展,所以今年我們十分榮幸能夠 請來兩位舉足輕重的亞洲演員親臨香港 亞洲電影節。第一位演員是宋康昊,他的 新作《 韓戲逼人 》也是今年的開幕電影, 亦是他與合作多年的金知雲導演的最新 作品,因此節目中亦設有一個單元回顧二 人歷年來合作的電影。而另一位嘉賓是 役所廣司,他剛剛以雲溫達斯導演的新 作《 新活日常 》在康城影展奪下了最佳男 演員的殊榮。大家會在今年 HKAFF 看到 這部電影,我們同時策劃了專題回顧他由 九十年代至今出演的多部作品,見證著他 多年來廣泛又精湛的演出。 這些重量級的嘉賓絕對是今年的重頭 戲,但同時我們亦會延續往年的傳統,跟 致力推廣不同類型電影的海外影展交流。 今屆很高興與台灣國際紀錄片影展合作, 選映一系列能夠體現他們影展精神的台 灣及海外紀錄片,亦邀請了導演來港作分

享。亞洲新導演獎單元的電影亦很出色, 順帶一提,今年的片單中亦有不少出自新 晉導演的優秀作品,大家除了留意一些自 己熟悉的導演以外,不妨去看一些新導演 的作品,很多時候會有所驚喜。 MM 你認為 HKAFF 對於在香港推廣亞洲電影 有怎樣的角色? HKAFF 就是在主流上映的電影以外,為大家提 供接觸不同電影的機會。我們很慶幸 HKAFF 多年來建立了一些忠實的觀眾, 我們亦希望大家能夠在電影節中觀看未 必熟悉的電影。在商業發行的市場下,有 很多不同地區的電影都是我們平時很少 會看到,而影展就為我們提供了一個機 會,將這些容易忽略的作品介紹給觀眾。 譬如近年選片過程中看到不少出色的蒙 古製作,今年的節目亦有兩部蒙古電影。 大家可能對於蒙古的電影業和文化也不 太認識,看這些電影是開眼界的體驗,會 發現自己的眼光並不需要局限於自己所 熟悉的地方,其實有很多地方都在出品高 質素的製作。所以我們希望能夠借影展吸 引觀眾一起去發掘不同的作品。

微電影 「 創 + 作 」 支援計劃 ( 音樂篇 )

MICROFILM PRODUCTION SUPPORT SCHEME (MUSIC)

Over the past decade, Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music) has become one of the most prominent programs in the digital advertising, film and television, and music industries. “MxM” united two creative industries ten years ago, bringing together music and visuals. These microfilms are based on songs provided by singers, showcasing their emotions and creative inspiration through storytelling and visual expression. These stories cover a variety of themes, from love to friendship, from setbacks to growth. Presented in the form of short film, these stories immerse the audience in the world of “Microfilm x Music”

“MxM” has provided a stage for many emerging directors to showcase their talents. Through the filming and creation of the produced works, these directors demonstrate their unique visual styles, storytelling abilities, and interpretations of different music genres. “MxM” has become an incubator for these directors, opening doors for their careers in advertising and film industries. At the same time, it aims to promote the development of local musicians by providing resources and support, and promoting their music through innovative means.

The ten-year journey of “MxM” is a significant milestone. With the changing times and continuous development of post production technologies, we can expect more innovative visual expressions and storytelling approaches. “MxM” will continue to drive collaboration and development between the two industries, creating more possibilities for the local film, television, and music.

The Microfilm Production Support Scheme

(Music) has combined music with microfilms over the past decade, allowing emerging directors to create microfilms of different genres and styles, showcasing their talents. The past winners' films, including “42M”, “The Future Past” and “Just Another Day” delicately portray the affection between father and children. The professional service provided in “Break Up Planner” assists clients in parting ways with their partners. “Hell of Mirrors” uses a third-person perspective to reveal the truth of past events. In “Tomorrow is Not Promised” four individuals collaborate to escape while facing their own problems. In “Bless You” a staff working in community COVID testing center finds joy in repetitive work. Lastly, “ALOHA” takes us on an emotional journey through terrifying yet touching phone calls.

Over the past decade, over two hundred works were born under the Microfilm Production Support Scheme (Music), this screening will showcase multiple gold award-winning microfilms. Taking a different turn in style, “Dingy Love” and “GongWoo Land II” present two distinct urban love stories. “I Lost My Cat”, “Interview with Lo Ting: An Oral history project” and “My Pineapple Bun" each showcase the unique flavor of Hong Kong on the screen.

The technological world today was a future Nam June Paik foresaw decades ago. As the father of video art, he was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

This documentary, directed by Amanda Kim and narrated by Oscar Nominee Steven Yuen, chronicles the life of a complex yet brilliantly clairvoyant pioneer. Born in 1932, Paik moved from Japan-occupied Korea to various parts of the world and met the likes of John Cage and Charlotte Moorman. These experiences paved his path to become one of the greatest Asian American avantgarde artists of his time. Throughout his career, Paik was an avid creator of art, music, video and performance. Today, his works of art continue to pave the way for a reconsideration of opportunities and complexities around us.

While watching R.M.N., I was reminded of what director Ann Hui said to me 14 years ago during an interview about her film Night and Fog, a social realist drama based on a murder case in the satellite town of Tin Shui Wai. I asked her about the lesson she was trying to convey, and she bluntly said to me that as a filmmaker, she would never tell people what to think or what to do because that’s not her job.

Romanian New Wave leading figure Cristian Mungiu named his latest film R.M.N. after the Romanian acronym for nuclear magnetic resonance, the technology used for M.R.I. One can say each of Mungiu’s films is an M.R.I. scan of Romanian society, delving deep into its brain in order to reveal its ills. But by revealing a plague that has spread far beyond his home country this time around, R.M.N. is his most thematically ambitious work yet.

Mungiu based his story on a very specific incident: In 2020, a bakery in the village of Ditrău sparked an uproar when it hired three Sri Lankan workers because it was unable to find local workers. Villagers openly protested the foreign workers’ presence using excuses such as not wanting the immigrants to impose their culture and safety concerns. Polls had long revealed the anti-foreigner sentiment embedded in Romanian society, but this ugly incident bared such attitudes in the real world.

A fictional take on the incident set in a Transylvanian village not unlike Ditrău, R.M.N. follows the case’s general trajectory, showing how abuses escalate from anonymous internet message boards to a heated protest in church before finally culminating in an explosive town hall meeting — shot in an unflinching, stationary 17-minute take — in which every possible hateful excuse is laid in the open.

Kevin Ma is a writer and English subtitler in the film industry, and the Hong Kong Consultant for Italy’ s Udine Far East Film Festival. He was an English Editor at YesAsia.com and the Entertainment Editor of Cathay Pacific’ s inflight magazine. He has contributed to publications by the Asian Film Awards. South Korea’ s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Poland’ s Five Flavours Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival, Hong Kong Asian Film Festival and the Hong Kong Film Archive.

Though many Romanians work abroad like the Sri Lankans, the villagers justify their racism and xenophobia with stereotypes, broad generalizations and misconceptions that sound eerily similar like YouTube conspiracy theories. They say contradictory phases like “I don’t have anything against them” before saying that they’re against them. When they’re called out, they hide behind “freedom of speech” as a rationale. It almost seems like the villagers are more afraid of being called racist than being actual racists.

Mungiu’s brilliance is in his ability to use specifics to convey larger ideas. The film deals with specific Romanian issues such as its love-and-hate relationship with the European Union, its trouble with the Romani people (whom many insultingly call “gypsies”) and its complicated past with neighboring Hungary (some initially accuse ethnic Hungarians as the racist ones). Mungiu doesn’t have the screen time to explain all the contexts, but his core themes – the ugliness of xenophobia and delusional paranoia embedded in our fear of outsiders — are unfortunately things that are happening all over the world.

Mungiu also ties xenophobia to rampant toxic masculinity, as epitomized by protagonist Matthias. He often turns to violence — or threatens it — in order to get his way, he tries to force his son to “man up” out of his phobia of the forest, and he starts an affair with his former lover Csilla to escape his unhappy marriage. Though Mungiu gives no definite answer, the film’s magical realist ending hints at the consequences of his jealousyfueled paranoia and fear of the unknown.

Mungiu has never been an activist, but he is a fierce critic who isn’t afraid to expose things that make him angry. Great filmmakers like Ann Hui and Cristian Mungiu would never presume that film can enact real change. Instead of telling us how to save the world, they point a mirror at us, asking us whether we will choose to be bystanders or act to save ourselves before it’s too late.

役所廣司和宋康昊一直以來都是日本和韓國影 壇最有影響力的演員 ,入行多年獲獎無數 ,更分 別在今年和去年榮登康城影帝 ,成就他們演藝事

業高峰 。今個十月 ,兩位影帝齊聚 MOViE MOViE 「 影帝們 」單元 ,役所廣司主演的《 渴罪 》、《 第三 度殺人 》和《 東京蒼穹下 》,與宋康昊主演的《 逆 權大狀 》和《 上流寄生族 》互相輝映 。

今年 67 歲的役所廣司入行超過 40 年 ,憑 1996 年的《 談談情跳跳舞 》和翌年的《 失樂園 》 廣為世界各地影迷認識 ,開啟了他電影生涯的新 篇章 。兩部電影中他雖然都是飾演平凡上班族, 但人物設定和角色性格均差天共地 ,讓影迷見證 他演繹不同角色的實力和發揮。《 談談情跳跳舞 》 熱映之際 ,比役所廣司年輕 11 年的宋康昊參演了 首部電影《 豬墮井的那天 》,導演正是影迷非常 熟悉的影展常客洪尚秀 ,不過他並未因此而成為 洪尚秀的固定班底 ,而宋康昊也轉向商業類型片 演出 。1997 年至 2003 年間 ,夥拍當年仍是新人 導演的李滄東 ,參演他首次執導的長片《 黑道初 哥 》;其後也參演了金知雲執導的《 死不張揚離 奇失魂事件 》、朴贊郁執導的《JSA 安全地帶 》及 奉俊昊執導的《 殺人回憶 》等 ,並因此而奠下與這 幾位導演的緣分,在往後十多二十年間合作無間。

無論是朴贊郁的奇詭暴烈 、李滄東的人性悲鳴 、

金知雲的類型顛覆 ,以至奉俊昊的社會寫實 ,宋 康昊都能發揮不同的面貌和感性 ,演各式平凡小

今次「 影帝們 」單元中選映的《 逆權大狀 》和 《 上流寄生族 》,標誌著宋康昊近年電影事業上的 不同階段 。《 逆權大狀 》中他飾演韓國前總統盧武 鉉的原型 ,堅持營救被獨裁政權以言入罪而拘禁 的大學生 ;草根律師角色塑造入型入格,也奠定 了他日後主演《 逆權司機 》的契機 。輾轉數年發 展至另類「 逆權 」,在《 上流寄生族 》中帶同家人 運用各式詭計侵佔豪宅 ,角色由上半部的滑頭輕 佻過渡到後半部的冷峻兇狠 ,宋康昊都能準確駕 馭角色心理變化 ,而電影更在康城影展及奧斯卡 頒獎禮中奪得多項殊榮,他的演出絕對功不可沒。 宋康昊去年憑是枝裕和執導的《 孩子轉運站 》 在康城影展奪得影帝 ,也是他首次主演非韓國導 演執導的電影。相比之下 ,役所廣司比宋康昊更 早進軍國際 ,在 2005 年已參演荷里活電影《 藝伎 回憶錄 》,翌年也參演了《 巴別塔 》,2019 年他更 參演中日合拍片《 冰峰暴 》。而和宋康昊一樣 ,今 年他奪得康城影帝的作品《Perfect Days》也非日 本導演作品 ,而是由德國大師 Wim Wenders 執 導 。片中他飾演公廁清潔員,在工作日常中展示 人生智慧 。電影更將代表日本競逐來屆奧斯卡最 佳國際影片 。今次「 影帝們 」選映的《 渴罪 》、《 第 三度殺人 》和《 東京蒼穹下 》,三部電影均與殺人 有關 。《 渴罪 》展現的是《 告白 》導演中島哲也華 麗狂野的風格 ,役所廣司的演出集瘋狂輕率荒誕 於一身 。在是枝裕和執導的《 第三度殺人 》中 ,他 化身涉嫌殺死前僱主繼而燒屍的殺人犯 ,但在開 審前不斷更改口供,真相無法水落石出。役所廣 司在片中時而沉鬱時而爆發 ,與福山雅治飾演的 律師心理攻防,展現出劍拔弩張的壓迫感。《 東京 蒼穹下 》由擅長反映社會小人物生活的西川美和 執導 ,角色比《 渴罪 》和《 第三度殺人 》壓抑內斂 , 他飾演的殺人犯出獄後無法重新投入社會 ,承受 的歧視和偏見 ,其實也是無形的暴力 ,道盡社會 邊緣人的無奈 。

六十年代的台灣,對外有軍事上的暗湧,對內籠罩着 白色恐怖 。那個年代 ,新一代開始成長 ,昔日的日本文 化被美國文化取代 ,他們在高氣壓之下對這處境有一 套新的態度和生存方式 。電影從這群少年人出發 ,勾 勒出那個年代的社會群像,每個角色都有血肉,對照 的是一個被忽略的大時代 。

電影從瑣碎和生活化的對白與處境推演故事,沒有一 般黑幫片的結構與說故事的方式 。相反 ,黑吃黑的情 節彷彿只是幌子 ,帶出的是老許因漂泊的無奈無力, 當中有難以言喻的張力 。電影暗藏昔日許氏喜劇的密 碼 ,對照片中一個落泊唏噓的過客,這是最入骨最令 人會心苦笑的地方 。

故事雖關於台灣原住民的處境,但當中的訊息其實也 能放諸四海 。維護傳統的價值觀 ,在外力衝擊下如何 重新認識自己的土地和文化,如何在堅持與妥協間取

得平衡 ,套入現在的香港也有共鳴 。電影對社會種種

驚世駭俗的經典,藉着連場超越禁忌的性愛,挑戰日 本電影的底線 ,嘲諷社會的虛偽,抗議正死灰復燃的

軍國思想 。最深刻的一幕是男主角在街上與軍人擦 身而過的畫面 ,37 年後的《 一代宗師 》也有一段異曲 同工的段落 ,不管是富翁還是宗師,在極權之下同樣

無力 。電影彷彿是一面鏡,讓我們看見過去,也連結

當下 。

HAPPY HOUR

新鮮獨特的電影製作方式,從表演工作坊延伸而來的 作品 ,四位女主角都是從未拍過電影的家庭主婦和辦 公室女郎,但初試啼聲便成了瑞士羅迦諾的影后,濱 口的指導厥功至偉 。片長超過五小時 ,但絲毫沒有冗 長的感覺,電影的張力無需刻意經營,是從細碎的日 常中沉澱出來 ,這足見濱口細緻的觀察力,還有過人

的創作力和執行力 。

一宗滅門慘案 ,在抽絲剝繭下發掘的重點並非破案或

真相 ,而是當中關於善與惡的糾結 。電影中的滅門案

並不恐怖 ,最恐怖的是當中虛偽、善忘和涼薄的人性, 為生存要麻木不仁的暗黑現實。女主角滿島光技驚

四座 ,剖白一幕讓我想起《 踏血尋梅 》的白只 ,心寒但

揪心 。

不得不佩服山田洋次 ,鮐背之年仍有旺盛的創作力 , 每部作品都有穩定的高水準 。他甚少在世界名牌影展 上出風頭 ,但無損他在電影世界的地位 。《 電影之神 》 是紀念「 松竹電影 」一百周年的電影 ,另一方面也像回 顧他走過的電影歲月,平凡中見不平凡,總結着他的 映畫人生 。

西川美和喜歡探討社會議題,但她的作品沒有陳腔濫 調 ,而是在溫婉之下抑壓着憤怒 。以釋囚重投社會為 題材的《 東京蒼穹下 》也有這質感 ,透過細膩的筆觸和 精準的觀察 ,藉着主角的心路歷程表達社會上種種枷 鎖 、偽善與偏見 ,在批判中感受到主角的無力 ,活在一 個比監獄更糟的社會 ,是盡在不言中的荒謬和可悲 。

洋洋 :「 爸爸 ,我們是不是只能看到一半的事情 ? 好 像我只能看到前面 ,看不到後面 。」

這是電影中最觸動我的對白,而這部電影彷彿是洋洋 拍的照片 ,讓我們看見和面對一些容易被忽視了的真 實 ,五味雜陳 ,這就是人生 。有別於楊德昌過往的電 影 ,《 》在冰冷中流露一份暖 。

Currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, we asked Jeffrey Andrews, Centre-in-Charge, about his top films which represent the heart-wrenching history, experiences and stories of refugees, who have been forced to leave their countries and loved ones forever. Andrews is an Indian by descent, Hong Kong born-and-raised, and one of the first ethnic minority registered social workers in Hong Kong, committed to helping refugees and supporting minority rights. Serving over 600 refugees and asylum seekers each month, Andrews and his team are driving life changing work for a community which deserves care, recognition, safety and a brighter tomorrow.

FLEE NO HARD FEELINGS

This is a moving story, a soul-searching journey of selfreflection for everyone, not just refugees, but for anyone fleeing from something and hoping to find a home someday, somewhere...

“These different lives we might have lived” this powerful message in the movie touches upon so many things at one time: the belonging, freedom, cultural and sexual diversity in a refugee centre. This is a film to show the daily reality of many young LGBT immigrant communities.

THE TOWER THE OTHER SIDE OF HOPE

Generational trauma, generational hope: this is a child’s perspective of a problem created by adults. It simply portrays a reality that unfortunately many refugee children have to face every day. So much pain, so much love, so much struggle for dignity and humanity. The refugee stories are beautifully animated in stop motion and illustration. This is a must watch!

A refugee story of struggle and resilience. Not all refugees that flee their home lands, end up in Europe, living the dream life. This film gives us a vision of the hardships mixed with humour, hope and the ending for us to figure out by ourselves.

My personal favourite. An extraordinary tale of a Tamil soldier, who left the war, losing his entire family and then seeking a future in France with a stranger. He gradually raises a family with this unknown person but faces a new kind of crisis. This is a portrayal of reality through the lens of displacement, trauma and defeat; from old reality in a refugee camp in Sri Lanka to the beginning of new reality in a rough and tough neighbourhood of France. Simply breathtaking!

FANNY’S JOURNEY

A heartwarming journey of the resilience, courage and unconditional love of children. This incredible story of survival and escape to safety, against all odds, is a remarkably well-made film capturing the period of Nazi terror and the brutal life-altering courses children and families had to make. Overall, the children's journey is a reminder to everyone that we need to dig deep into the inner child and good in us all.

This is a journey of desperation of two people pushed beyond the shadows of mainstream society and how modern-day institutions and bureaucratic systems result in inhumane decisions that puts them on a dire path with harsh consequences.

WHEN HITLER STOLE PINK RABBIT

This is a movie suitable for both children and adults, with adventure but also the hard-hitting truths and realities created by humanity.

WHERE IS ANNE FRANK

This is a thought-provoking and emotional film that explores the story of Anne Frank, a young Jewish girl, who went into hiding during the Holocaust. The movie beautifully captures the essence of Anne's diary, showcasing her resilience, hope, and the sheer tragedy of her circumstances. The film seamlessly combines live-action with stunning animation, bringing Anne's words to life in a visually captivating way. The animation is truly remarkable, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in Anne's world and empathise with her experiences.

香港由一條小小漁村,變成國際大都會,是數代香港人一起努 力塑造的成果。當城市急速發展,不少舊物隨之逐漸消失;霓 虹招牌被拆卸,正好代表一個時代的結束。有人選擇忘記,卻 也有人擇善固執,以電影故事將霓虹光輝記錄下來。曾憲寧導 演執導的《燈火闌珊》,由香姐(張艾嘉 飾)的喪夫之痛作 為開始,在依隨亡夫的遺願製作「妙麗中心」霓虹招牌的過程 中,將觀眾帶回上世紀。

【城市發展VS文化保育】上世紀霓虹燈工藝璀璨全城,五光十 色的霓虹招牌在鬧市高高掛,令香港成為世界著名的不夜天, 又被美譽為東方之珠,與拿不勒斯及函館齊名世界三大夜景, 霓虹招牌實在居功至偉。隨著都市化發展、物業條例的改變, 霓虹招牌首當其衝,被時代奪去其光芒。拆除一個招牌可能只 是數分鐘,卻磨滅了霓虹工匠一生的事業印記。這種匠心獨運 的港式霓虹招牌書法,是香港別樹一幟的標記,更是不應跟隨 時代步伐而流逝的工業。電影內其中一幕對白令人留下深刻印 象,工作人員向香姐說:「你個招牌僭建,要拆。」香姐則回 答:「我個招牌喺度嗰陣你都未有,你條法例就僭建。」當僭 建物無處不在、多年仍然原封不動,現在霓虹招牌卻已所餘無 幾,文化保育與城市發展,永遠都是各走一方,不能共融。

【工匠互助情義】香姐在製作招牌過程中,勾起與亡夫鏢叔 (任達華 飾)的回憶。六、七十年代生活艱難,家居工業手 作養活不少家庭,工藝行業之間環環緊扣,小商戶除了生意來 往,彼此也有一份互相幫助渡過難關的情義,而《燈火闌珊》 中的鏢叔,就是工匠互助精神的典型代表。當你兒時曾經捱過 艱難日子,除了感激父母為家庭付出,也應感恩成長路途中, 出現過鏢叔這種有情有義的工匠。年華消逝是必然的事,最令 人惋惜是失去昔日美好的事物,在現實生活沒有替代品,也就 是大家對舊香港緬懷與不捨的最大原因,正如承載了上世紀的 霓虹光輝的《燈火闌珊》的宣傳語句:

美好的 熄滅了
