2 X 80 MIN., DOCUMENTARY SERIES, 4TH EPISODE, 2021
BP Underground is a documentary series exploring the underground youth subcul tures of Budapest, Hungary in the 90s and 2000s, right after the iron curtain fell. The series deals with the community building aspects of these groups, and how they affected our society - and still do today. The BPU rock-metal episode recalls the spirit of the nineties like a time capsule: the influx of unrestricted Western influences, when watching MTV’s Head bangers Ball, dubbing tape cassettes and reading Metal Hammer were exciting. The movie seeks answers to questions like how the specifics of each rock genre developed.

Just like the other episodes it also evokes the emergence and growth of the genre with its unique visual world and a lot of archive footage, recalling the time when it was trendy to attend Acid Parties and everyone was into Rave and Goa Trance. The social aspect is also put into focus: Is there any socially decisive factor as to who chooses the electronic music scene? What does it mean for some of the musi cians to rise from being unknown under ground artists to achieving national fame? What is the specific Hungarian flavor of the different styles which are mainly root ed in British/American culture?
