Alexandra Diersen ’21

Melinda S. Brown, from Marion, Iowa, is graduating with a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Alexandra Diersen, from Solon, Iowa, is graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in psychology.

She is currently a behavioral health intervention specialist at Four Oaks and a student therapist at the Olson Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, while also completing practicum hours at Meadowlark Psychiatric Services.

While at Mount Mercy, Alexandra served as the treasurer for the Mount Mercy University Association of Nurses (MMUANS) and was a member of Nurses of Vision and Action (NOVA), and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Chapter Kappa Xi.

After graduation, Melinda plans to join the therapy staff at the House of Hope in Cedar Rapids, where she’ll provide services to individuals, families, and couples with the mission of encouraging, equipping, and empowering women.

Alexandra is currently a patient care technician at UnityPoint Health–St. Luke’s Hospital and a shift manager at Ronald McDonald House of Cedar Rapids. After graduation, she plans to move to Des Moines and start her nursing career at UnityPoint Health.

Veronica Joy Jons ’21

Samuel John Meyers ’20

Veronica Joy Jons, a native of Walker, Iowa, is graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and a minor in journalism.

Samuel John Meyers, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduated summa cum laude in December 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and biology-education, with an endorsement in biological sciences and a coaching certification.

At Mount Mercy, Veronica was the director of public relations and secretary for the Student Government Association, and since Fall 2019, she has served as the Mount Mercy Times editor-in-chief. Veronica was also involved with the Academic Center for Excellence and participated in competitive dance, Homecoming planning, Project Connect, and #HaveMercyGiveMercy.

At Mount Mercy, Samuel helped educate students by participating in the MMU Science Fun Night at St. Pius X Elementary School. He also volunteered for the Pentecost Novena and served as a small group leader at St. Ludmila Catholic Church.

Samuel is a science teacher and coaches sophomore baseball, basketball, and football at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids.

After graduation, Veronica plans to either attend law school or enroll in a master’s program at Mount Mercy.

Latin honors are calculated based on a student’s final cumulative GPA. For students graduating in June or August 2021, their current cumulative GPA is used at Commencement. Students earning second bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees are not eligible for Latin honors.
