The steamed pork bun is everything you would expect - big and fluffy with a sweet and savoury pork centre. The taro roll is another sweet and savoury dish but it is a more complex textural experience, with its crisp exterior encompassing sticky dough and a pork centre. Now, you can’t go to Yum Cha without having chicken feet! If you’ve never tried them before, don’t be scared. These succulent morsels are coated in a sweet and sticky marinade and while fiddly to eat, they are so worth it. There are so many dishes available, we only scraped the surface with what we tried. To drink, we suggest sticking to the aromatic jasmine tea. A pot is brought to your table as soon as you arrive and when you need more, simply tilt the teapot lid so it is ajar and a waiter will bring another pot right over. The tea is not just Yum Cha’s namesake, but it is also said to aid in digestion, meaning you can try loads of dishes without feeling bloated. This also means more room for dessert! The desserts we tried were light, yet indulgent. There were plenty of tempting egg tarts on offer but we opted for the flower and coconut jelly with its fragrant layers of jelly which are both beautiful to look at and a delight to eat. Then, there is everyone’s favourite Yum Cha dessert, mango pancakes. These are thin, silky pancakes wrapped around fresh chunks of mango and lashings of luscious whipped cream. While Yum Cha dishes are designed to be shared, the mango pancake is one dish we recommend keeping to yourself!
