EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Early Childhood Education Mounds View Public Schools offers high-quality learning options for children birth to age five and caregivers starting with expecting parents. Our high-quality programs give parents and caregivers the flexibility to attend classes with and without their children all year. We will follow the Minnesota Department of Education and Health’s recommendations for health and safety practices into the school year 2021-22.

Early Childhood Education offers the following programs: • Early Childhood Family Education • Screening • Preschool 3’s / Prekindergarten 4’s • Early Childhood Special Education • Early Childhood resources Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) As parents, you are your child’s first and most important teacher.

ECFE is designed to support you in your role as a parent while helping your child develop and grow. ECFE classes provide time for parent and child interaction as well as time for parent discussion. Licensed and experienced early childhood teachers and family educators lead classes focused on child/parent development to enhance your child’s social relationships, creativity, literacy, language, pre-reading and math skills.

Registration fees for ECFE programs are based on a sliding scale unless otherwise noted online. No one will be denied participation due to inability to pay.

Nurture the parent-child relationship with play-and-learn activities.

Discover sensory activities, songs and movements to enhance baby’s brain development. Discussions on parenting topics may address feeding, sleeping routines, baby’s joys, concerns and more.

30-35 months | Separating & non-parent day added semester II Tuition: $115 per month This class combines ECFE and preschool together. In the fall, you will attend one day a week with your child, similar to ECFE. In the second semester, your child will attend an additional day by themselves, plus the class time increases by 30 minutes for both the parenting and child-only day. The child-only day allows children to socialize with their peers, similar to preschool.

Children must be between the ages of 30 - 35 months old by the class start date.

PARENTS ONLY PARENTING AFTER LIGHTS OUT Birth - 5 yrs. | Online (Zoom or Google Meet) Registration fee: Sliding scale "Parenting After lights Out" is an evening class for parents to connect and learn from other parents. A parent educator will lead discussion based on participant interests, parent-child relationships, home activities and parenting during this everchanging world.

Sibling care allows parents to attend ECFE classes with one child and we will watch the other(s), ages three months to five years old during the ECFE class time. A minimum enrollment must be met in order to run for a semester. Sibling care is only available for daytime classes and not for evening classes.

ECFE classes are available first to Mounds View Public Schools residents. Non-District residents can enroll for remaining openings starting May 13, 2021. To enroll in a class, visit moundsviewschools.org/RegisterCommunityEd EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION (ECFE) SLIDING SCALE FEES Participant fees for most classes are based on a sliding fee scale. Classes are charged on a sliding fee scale based on income. No Minnesota family is excluded for inability to pay. A discount is available for siblings enrolled in the same one day/ week class. The fee for the second child is half the class cost.

PAYMENTS Payments are due in full at the time of registration. We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover or ACH Electronic Transfer for online registrations. To pay with cash, please visit the Pike Lake Early Childhood office.

Canceled classes will not be refunded due to weather or staff professional development days. There are no refunds for family vacations or days missed due to family illness or extended leave of absence.

REFUNDS Class or sibling care refunds will be issued 30 days before the class start date at 100%. From 30 days to the start of class, a refund of 75% will be credited. After the first class, 50% will be refunded. No refunds will be given for the semester after the second class. A $10 processing fee will be charged per refund.

ADDITIONAL EARLY CHILDHOOD RESOURCES

Children attending our preschool and prekindergarten programs must be screened before or during the school year.

The recommended age for screening is 3½ years old. This FREE screening is required for kindergarten entry in all Minnesota public schools. If you live in the Mounds View Public School district, please contact our office to schedule an appointment.

PARENT EDUCATION AND SUPPORT Do you have a parenting question? If you are looking for developmental information, kid-friendly activities or parenting techniques, we can help. A licensed parent educator will answer your questions based on current research and experience.

PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE Do you have ideas and skills to help our program and/or like to help and volunteer? The Early Childhood Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is looking for members. We value your input! Parents participating in ECFE and Preschool/PreK programs meet monthly with staff during the school year to talk about classes, experiences and explore fun ideas for family events. FREE child care is provided for children 6 months to 4 years old. If interested in volunteering for events or joining the committee, please email us at earlychildhood@moundsviewschools.org.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION (ECSE)

The mission of ECSE is to help children with disabilities achieve their potential by providing classes, services and supports to children ages birth to five. We strive to have inclusive opportunities for all children we serve. Children must first be assessed to determine if they are eligible and need special education services. Contact the Minnesota Department of Education's Help Me Grow Program to start the referral process at 1-866-693-GROW.
