Older houses are not made of air-tight doors and windows. They have dodgy windows and a natural gap which allows air flow inside and outside the rooms. However, modern architecture focuses more on super air-tight and energy-efficient designs.

New build homes are designed without the provision of an Extractor fan. Although they are not very powerful, these fans are effective in preventing mould growth. Particularly in the kitchens and bathrooms, new build homes often lack an extractor fan to remove moisture.

Sometimes, during the design and construction of the new house, moisture can get into the structure even before the roof is installed. Concrete, plaster, and chambers are among the common materials used in new houses. These materials take months to get completely dry.

Moisture generally grows and thrives on cold surfaces. In most of the newly constructed homes, Energy efficiency levels are high, which keeps the interior cool during the scorching summers. However, this might be a disadvantage for the inhabitants because the moisture within the home, which is unable to escape, starts driving into mould since the interiors are always cool.
